LOGIN"Listen, I'm tired of this marriage. We only got married because I needed a wife to secure my CEO position, and now that it's settled, you're not useful to me anymore." My husband, Dale, said to my face, nothing close to guilt flashing in his expression. And that was when I knew... I really was nothing to him. With tears in my eyes, I signed the divorce papers and left. Left his house. Left his family. Left his life. But not without a promise to myself. A promise that no matter what, I would come back. I would come back stronger. The nobody they see me as, will come back as somebody. Somebody they'd all need. ....... Chloe Dave thought life loved her when she got married to Dale Beldson, the hottest man on earth and her long crush. That was proven wrong, when what was supposed to be a happy marriage, turned to a depressing one, with a husband that rarely acknowledged her existence. Still, she held on to the hope that if he'd chosen to marry her, there'd be something in there. Some emotions in there. That died the moment his bestfriend, Nora framed her for laundry and attempted murder, and he chose to believe Nora over her. Even after all her pleas, he still refused to give heed to her. He saw her as a nobody. His family saw her as one. That was when Chloe vowed to come back and shock the world. Shock Dale Beldson, her ex-husband.

My husband didn't love me. He didn't hate me either. What he felt for me was worse… nothing. A nothingness I'd gotten used to. One I'd decided to adapt with. Until the night that changed it all. And it started when the car came to a halt. A guard moved to open my husband, Dale Beldson’s side of the car, and I watched him emerge, revealing that full six foot four figure I'd fallen for. What everyone had fallen for. It was kind of hard to not drool over such a well built man. He was the nation's most handsome man after all, physically built to perfection. Shoulders and chest carved like crystals. Blue eyes that shone brighter than ever, then with his dark blonde hair combed and sleeked marvelously, he defined hot. ‘Hot’ that I fell in love with. Love that began the moment I got to high school at fifteen, him being a senior in his final year. Five years passed, and I couldn't stop gawking every time I got to see him. So you must imagine how blissed out I'd have been when he approached me on my twentieth birthday, asking to marry him because he needed a wife to secure his CEO position. Then, it had seemed perfect, but now… after two years in, with us barely speaking to each other and sex that felt like an emotionless ritual, I could say my fantasy was dying. Still, I held onto the hope that if out of all the females that had a crush on him, he chose me, then there would still be something in there. Some feelings he had for me, hidden somewhere, deep down. And every day, he hadn't proven me right nor wrong. He barely spoke to me on a daily basis. But today, something felt off. I got out of the car, trying to study him. His jaw was too tight, shoulders squared more than it normally would, eyes cold and distant. He even had a frown on. Normally, I was used to him being cold (because, what billionaire isn't), but that afternoon, it was different. “Is everything alright?” I had to ask once I was beside him. Only to be greeted with a deeper frown, before he started towards the mansion. What was wrong with him? Still, I didn't bother re-asking. Instead, just rushed to catch up with him for the family dinner. His family I hated totally. They were like thorns in my paths. Most of them disliked me, and they were sure to not hide it. All because of one person. One annoying person. “Dale!” That annoyingly sweet voice greeted the second we were in, her five foot six figure rushing to throw her arms around his neck. And Dale, even more annoyingly, allowed her, returning the supposed hug. His shoulders even as much as relaxed a little. Seriously? “You're here early.” He said in that deep tone of his that I still loved. Even when he was here, lovingly hugging someone who was meant to be ‘just friend’. “Hmm. I wanted to see Amber.” She pulled away, then turned to me, her smile growing. “Chloe, you look nice.” I had to draw in a breath of patience. “Thanks Nora.” Nora Clint was probably the synonym of a nightmare. If frustrating was a person, then it'd be her. She was very great at masking her love for Dale in front of him, but when it came to me, she was very blunt with her insults. But I could barely do anything, because apart from being a millionaire's daughter and the sister to my elder sister's boyfriend, she was also Dale's childhood friend and his family's perfect choice for him. All in all, she was favored every time. My name on her mouth brought Dale's frown once again. “Come on, let's get going.” Without glancing at me, he just began strutting off. “Dal—” I was going to once again try to catch up, when Nora snatched my hand, halting me, the smile and pretend-friend phase dropping faster than ever. “I don't see why you still attend these dinners when it's obvious you're not invited.” She sneered. “Even Dale doesn't want you here.” “That's not true.” I yanked my hand free, glaring at her. “He's just in a bad mood. Probably because of work,” it didn't have to be because of me, right? She burst out laughing like that was the most ridiculous thing ever. “Whatever you want to think,” then she stepped forward, “but you should know also that today will mark your last day in this house.” Her smile was back, while I stood confused. “Alright then Chloe, see you later.” She then walked away. As I moved to the dining hall, I found myself fidgeting with my dress. What had she meant by today was my last day? What was she planning? It probably shouldn't have bothered me knowing how Nora was, but it did, because I had a feeling, she just might be right. Especially as I entered the hall to find Dale whispering to his father, but the moment I stepped in, they paused and Dale's cold stare landed on me. I couldn't shake off the feeling that his bad mood wasn't about work… but about me.I stared at him for a moment before stepping back slightly, my heart beating way too fast for its own good.“What frame are you talking about?” The words left lower than intended, but I managed to cover any hint of gruffness from my nervousness in them.“One of your mom, as I said.” He simply replied, and goodness, I just had to wonder if the way this guy made me feel was one-sided. “And a necklace. Something I'm sure would be better in your hands.”I couldn't agree more, and so, there I was, ten minutes later, sitting on the passenger's seat of his car and on my way to his house.A place I shouldn't be.This might be a dumb idea.In fact, it was one.Heading to my ex-husband's house in the night most certainly was dumb.I'd been making a lot of dumb decisions lately, so yeah. Also, my heart ached thinking of a memory of my parents. It always did. When he pulled over in front of his place, my heart warmed slightly as I stared at the exterior. It was exactly the same as where we used t
“How long have you been here?” Those were the first words that left my mouth, brows dipped the deepest. He strode over, stopping right in front of me with a face devoid of expression. “Long enough to know you and Cole aren't a thing.”I had to suck in a breath to prevent cussing, because seriously?Seriously??!!!How the heck could I seriously have been careless?Careless enough to scream something I was supposed to keep secluded.I didn't even want to know how Emery would react. Whatever her reason for keeping Donald, might end up in the open if I didn't do anything. She might actually suffer for it in the end.Obviously that was something I wasn't going to sit and watch happen, but I also wasn't going to be the most obvious person, so I asked;“Why are you here? What on earth are you doing in my neighborhood?” My hands flew to my hips. “Don't tell me you're actually stalking me now Mr Beldson.”A ghost of what looked like a smirk pulled up his lips. “Do I really look like I'd stop d
“That has to be one of the dumbest thing you've done Chloe.” Emery shook her head. “You really don't learn your lesson, do you?” At that point, I couldn't even say anything, because geez, I hadn't felt dumber. But of course, my pride was still in existence, because I rose to my feet, shoulders straightening. “Why do you guys act like it's so much of a big deal?” I rolled my eyes. “It's just us staying in the same country, but different hotels, different space and likely little time we'll have to see each other. So all your worrying is just proving to be unnecessary in case you don't know.” “Right—” “It's okay.” I cut her off, already making my way to my room. “This is something I don't want to discuss any further. Drop it.” Her cheeks bloomed, but she didn't say any more, instead scoffed and was off to her room, while I went to mine. Angry at myself, but not ready to dwell on that, I left all forms of work needed and just went straight to bed. ~ When I woke up, it was already
~ Chloe ~I had to bite my lower lip to prevent the cuss word about to erupt, as I strode out of the meeting, Kanyin beside me.That didn't at all go as planned. Not at all.It was supposed to be my way of reminding him of my position and how many great ideas I could come up with that would let him know this wasn't that dumb Chloe he knew three years ago.Of course, I'd succeeded in that part. But the avoiding him own…That, I did not— at all— succeed in, because here I was, probably going to be in another country with him, both of us foreseeing a project. What the heck was wrong with me?I'd have refused it when he'd offered, but just the thought of him figuring out I was obviously trying to avoid him, pissed me off to the bones.I couldn't at all imagine that happening. And so I'd done the dumbest thing… I'd agreed to travelling all the way to another continent.Far away from everyone else. And to a foreign land, where I will be alone with him.*“What the heck?!” Emery's eyes widen
“Seventy five percent?” One of the partnering CEOs, a bald man possibly in his fifties, exclaimed. “If it flops, it could lead to a high loss ma'am.” A guy with graying hair (though he looked no more than thirty) shook his head.“Too much you're placing at risk.” The guy beside me interjected, brows furrowed. “Flopping would mean dragging us down the mud.”“That's just stupidity if you asked me.” Another said, a red haired female with a gown too tight, I wondered if she could breath in it.Instinctively, I was about to stand up for Chloe, when she spoke, “which is why I didn't ask your opinion, Miss Sanalvi.”The red haired, now known as Sanalvi, stared wide-eyed, obviously shocked by the retort.Even I was surprised. Certainly the good type though. My eyes stayed glued to my ex-wife, watching how she stood, composed, shoulders straightened, head held high, chest puffed slightly.Damn, this woman was not backing out any second from now.And my goodness, I'd be a goat if I didn't admi
~ Dale ~It was exactly three days after my engagement when Rita let me know there was a meeting being held by Chloe, involving all her partnering company CEOs.She had let me know it wasn't anything compulsory and I could refuse it if I wanted to.A part of me knew the smart thing to do was refuse it. Especially after my engagement. But the other part— the dumb part— decided to choose otherwise, and instead offered a curt nod to my secretary, letting her know I was in with the idea.Which I shouldn't be.Either way, here I was, three days later, at the back seat of my car, on my way to her company. This was obviously a dumb idea, but yeah, I was still going to do it.Rita was beside me, doing whatever work she knew to do.Ten minutes later, the car came to a halt so we got down.Smoothly, my legs strutted in with Rita beside me.As expected, my presence commanded attention.Eyes glanced my way occasionally, before they bowed. Some had theirs in awe, as I headed to the receptionist wh
