LOGIN"Listen, I'm tired of this marriage. We only got married because I needed a wife to secure my CEO position, and now that it's settled, you're not useful to me anymore." My husband, Dale, said to my face, nothing close to guilt flashing in his expression. And that was when I knew... I really was nothing to him. With tears in my eyes, I signed the divorce papers and left. Left his house. Left his family. Left his life. But not without a promise to myself. A promise that no matter what, I would come back. I would come back stronger. The nobody they see me as, will come back as somebody. Somebody they'd all need. ....... Chloe Dave thought life loved her when she got married to Dale Beldson, the hottest man on earth and her long crush. That was proven wrong, when what was supposed to be a happy marriage, turned to a depressing one, with a husband that rarely acknowledged her existence. Still, she held on to the hope that if he'd chosen to marry her, there'd be something in there. Some emotions in there. That died the moment his bestfriend, Nora framed her for laundry and attempted murder, and he chose to believe Nora over her. Even after all her pleas, he still refused to give heed to her. He saw her as a nobody. His family saw her as one. That was when Chloe vowed to come back and shock the world. Shock Dale Beldson, her ex-husband.

My husband didn't love me. He didn't hate me either. What he felt for me was worse… nothing. A nothingness I'd gotten used to. One I'd decided to adapt with. Until the night that changed it all. And it started when the car came to a halt. A guard moved to open my husband, Dale Beldson’s side of the car, and I watched him emerge, revealing that full six foot four figure I'd fallen for. What everyone had fallen for. It was kind of hard to not drool over such a well built man. He was the nation's most handsome man after all, physically built to perfection. Shoulders and chest carved like crystals. Blue eyes that shone brighter than ever, then with his dark blonde hair combed and sleeked marvelously, he defined hot. ‘Hot’ that I fell in love with. Love that began the moment I got to high school at fifteen, him being a senior in his final year. Five years passed, and I couldn't stop gawking every time I got to see him. So you must imagine how blissed out I'd have been when he approached me on my twentieth birthday, asking to marry him because he needed a wife to secure his CEO position. Then, it had seemed perfect, but now… after two years in, with us barely speaking to each other and sex that felt like an emotionless ritual, I could say my fantasy was dying. Still, I held onto the hope that if out of all the females that had a crush on him, he chose me, then there would still be something in there. Some feelings he had for me, hidden somewhere, deep down. And every day, he hadn't proven me right nor wrong. He barely spoke to me on a daily basis. But today, something felt off. I got out of the car, trying to study him. His jaw was too tight, shoulders squared more than it normally would, eyes cold and distant. He even had a frown on. Normally, I was used to him being cold (because, what billionaire isn't), but that afternoon, it was different. “Is everything alright?” I had to ask once I was beside him. Only to be greeted with a deeper frown, before he started towards the mansion. What was wrong with him? Still, I didn't bother re-asking. Instead, just rushed to catch up with him for the family dinner. His family I hated totally. They were like thorns in my paths. Most of them disliked me, and they were sure to not hide it. All because of one person. One annoying person. “Dale!” That annoyingly sweet voice greeted the second we were in, her five foot six figure rushing to throw her arms around his neck. And Dale, even more annoyingly, allowed her, returning the supposed hug. His shoulders even as much as relaxed a little. Seriously? “You're here early.” He said in that deep tone of his that I still loved. Even when he was here, lovingly hugging someone who was meant to be ‘just friend’. “Hmm. I wanted to see Amber.” She pulled away, then turned to me, her smile growing. “Chloe, you look nice.” I had to draw in a breath of patience. “Thanks Nora.” Nora Clint was probably the synonym of a nightmare. If frustrating was a person, then it'd be her. She was very great at masking her love for Dale in front of him, but when it came to me, she was very blunt with her insults. But I could barely do anything, because apart from being a millionaire's daughter and the sister to my elder sister's boyfriend, she was also Dale's childhood friend and his family's perfect choice for him. All in all, she was favored every time. My name on her mouth brought Dale's frown once again. “Come on, let's get going.” Without glancing at me, he just began strutting off. “Dal—” I was going to once again try to catch up, when Nora snatched my hand, halting me, the smile and pretend-friend phase dropping faster than ever. “I don't see why you still attend these dinners when it's obvious you're not invited.” She sneered. “Even Dale doesn't want you here.” “That's not true.” I yanked my hand free, glaring at her. “He's just in a bad mood. Probably because of work,” it didn't have to be because of me, right? She burst out laughing like that was the most ridiculous thing ever. “Whatever you want to think,” then she stepped forward, “but you should know also that today will mark your last day in this house.” Her smile was back, while I stood confused. “Alright then Chloe, see you later.” She then walked away. As I moved to the dining hall, I found myself fidgeting with my dress. What had she meant by today was my last day? What was she planning? It probably shouldn't have bothered me knowing how Nora was, but it did, because I had a feeling, she just might be right. Especially as I entered the hall to find Dale whispering to his father, but the moment I stepped in, they paused and Dale's cold stare landed on me. I couldn't shake off the feeling that his bad mood wasn't about work… but about me.~ Dale ~This was the first day of the project foreseeing and Chloe didn't bother to hide her disapproval of my presence the entire time. She had her shoulders straightened, chest puffed and an expression colder than ice.But if she thought that would make me back out, then damn she'd never been wrong. In fact, seeing this version of her was actually nice. She was as cute as ever. The entire day went by with my gaze unwilling to leave her, and even more so when our eyes met.I loved the way she'd tense slightly before looking away. The day would've been perfect if I didn't get a call when I was back at my hotel room.A call from Nora. One that reminded me of the wedding to come.Initially, I ignored it. But when she called again, I hesitantly answered.“What?” My tone was dry, but didn't hide my disinterest in talking to her.“Hi.” She had a hint of cheeriness to her tone.Something that reminded me of when we were still best friends, and how I wouldn't get this irritated hearing her
Thankfully, we hadn't sat beside each other in the plane.I was a whole lot of distance from where he sat and there was no need for us to interact the entire journey.A journey that lasted till ten p.m.Where the problem occurred though, was once we were in Nigeria, and had our personal drivers take us to our respective hotels.Something totally normal and an even perfect way of not having to come in contact with him.Not until I get to the hotel and guess what? There stood Dale, his driver behind him with a traveller's bag in hand.Wait, what? Why was he there? What was Dale doing there? My brows furrowed because I was certain I'd specifically told Kanyin to get me a hotel different from that of Dale's.Of course I did.So what? Why was he here?Smoothly, I strode over, trying (in vain) to maintain some composure while willing my creased forehead to smoothen.“Why are you here?” The words came sharper than intended, earning nothing but a plain sideways glance from him.“The same reas
~ Chloe ~“Is this really a smart idea?” Emery asked as I did the final blushing of my cheeks, then slipped on the dark blue heels which match my dark blue denim shorts with a baby pink long sleeved top.“I mean, traveling all the way to another continent is a whole lot.” She continued while I grabbed a purse, dropping my phone and necessary things in it. “And you'll be there all alone at that. With no one but your ex, and a guy we all know why you two aren't compatible.”A small sigh escaped as I just shook my head. “Girl, we've discussed this already. I don't get why you think it's okay to bring it up an hour before my flight.”And truthfully, we'd discussed it tons of times already.Ever since Kanyin’s data set calculations came to the conclusion that it'd be a good idea to start the project in Nigeria, Emery wouldn't stop letting me in on her disapproval of this all.“I'm just saying…” She followed behind as soon as I left my room, heading to the parlor where Donald and Cole were
~ Nora ~The car came to a halt in front of Amber's mansion, while I took to reapplying my lipstick as the door was opened by a guard.Once out, I held onto the red purse that certainly matched the red sleeveless crop top with black baggy jean trousers. With my chest puffed out slightly, I pranced in, my hips doing their usual swaying just in case Dale was inside and might notice me.When I got in and noticed he wasn't there, my body straightened. It took much effort to not roll my eyes, considering that my efforts on fashion was just a waste of time.“Oh good, you're here.” Amber, who was sitting on the couch and had her back to me, greeted, waving me over.“Yeah, what's up?” It was only once I reached there and could fully notice her, that my eyes caught the blue eyed female beside her.Tina.One girl who never bothered to hide her hatred for me. Especially after Dale's divorce.Something she always said she was certain I had something to do with it.“Oh Tina, when did you get back?
~ Dale ~My heart ached as I watched Chloe's lips tremble slightly, obviously fighting back tears. But the moment my eyes locked on hers, she grew stiff, snapping me to the fact I had my hands on her.And goodness, she had the softest cheeks ever, I found myself aching to bite it.Place it between my teeth and suck on it till I got something out.Had it really always been that soft? How come I never noticed? Not once in our two years of marriage did I notice she had the cheek of an angel. My thumb refused to drop from it, and even so much as took to rubbing it slightly. And then her lips moved, but this time when my eyes trailed to it, that urge to just kiss her rushed over.I recalled all the kisses we'd spent and how damn succulent her lips were.Beautifully sweet.Goodness, I wanted to taste her again. And from the way she bit her lower lip, I was sure she felt the same way.Just when I was about to lean closer, the door opened, causing both heads to snap to where Tina stood.Oh sh
I stared at him for a moment before stepping back slightly, my heart beating way too fast for its own good.“What frame are you talking about?” The words left lower than intended, but I managed to cover any hint of gruffness from my nervousness in them.“One of your mom, as I said.” He simply replied, and goodness, I just had to wonder if the way this guy made me feel was one-sided. “And a necklace. Something I'm sure would be better in your hands.”I couldn't agree more, and so, there I was, ten minutes later, sitting on the passenger's seat of his car and on my way to his house.A place I shouldn't be.This might be a dumb idea.In fact, it was one.Heading to my ex-husband's house in the night most certainly was dumb.I'd been making a lot of dumb decisions lately, so yeah. Also, my heart ached thinking of a memory of my parents. It always did. When he pulled over in front of his place, my heart warmed slightly as I stared at the exterior. It was exactly the same as where we used t
