Aria's POV

Immediately, I knocked on Damian's door.

He opened it in ten seconds. Black t-shirt. Sweatpants. Hair slightly messed, jaw shadowed. He looked like he hadn't been sleeping either. That shouldn't have made me feel better.

It did, slightly.

He read my face before I said a word. Stepped back from the door.

I walked in.

I told him everything standing up because sitting felt too settled for what I was carrying. Gabriel's

Aria's POV “Run. Tonight. Please.”I stared at the screen until the words blurred. Then I read them again.I got up, put Damian's jacket on properly, and went to find him.He was in the kitchen.Awake, which didn't surprise me. A glass of water on the counter, phone face down beside it. He looked up when I walked in and read my face quietly before I said a word.I held up my phone. He took it. Read the screen. "An unknown number," I said."I'll trace it." He was already moving—phone in hand, typing. He had people for this, the same way he had people for everything. I had stopped being surprised by that weeks ago.I sat on the counter and waited. It took eleven minutes."Clara Reed," he said.I frowned. "Clara sent this?""No." He set the phone down. "The number traces to a device registered to Clara's clinic account. But Clara didn't send

Aria's POV The law was four pages long and every line of it felt personal.I read it at Damian's desk while Noah stood near the door and Rhea sat across from me with her hands folded and Damian stood at the window with his back to the room, coffee in hand, jaw set. The morning had fully arrived by now—pale winter light through the tall windows, the grounds visible outside.“Hybrid entities of undetermined or unverified lineage presenting alpha-level traits shall be classified as potential security threats under pack law, and shall be restricted from holding any leadership, advisory, or ceremonial position within recognized pack structures.”I read that line twice.Hybrid entities. Not people. Not wolves. Not even hybrids.Entities.I put the paper down flat on the desk."Who wrote this?" I said."Elder council, 1953," Noah said. "After a hybrid alpha in the northern territories destabiliz

Damian's POV The word “child” kept ringing in my head.A child. A child that didn't exist yet and Victor Bennett had already been calculating about it before Aria and I had fully acknowledged what we were to each other.I read Cassian's note three times in the corridor.I folded it, put it in my pocket and went to find her.She was in the kitchen.Yesterday's clothes. Hair loose. Both hands around a mug she wasn't drinking—just holding, like the warmth was the point. Staring at the window above the sink, the tree line still dark against the early sky.She heard me come in, but didn't turn.I found a mug. Poured coffee without asking—she'd stopped pretending she didn't want it three weeks ago—and slid it across to her.She looked at it. Then at me."You read it," she said."Yes."She nodded and turned back to the window.I stood across the counter from her a

The staff member sent to the door. Cassian's name delivered like a calling card at two in the morning to my father's room.Damian listened without moving. When I finished he went very still.."He used Gabriel," he said. "I know.""To reach you.""I know, Damian—""After threatening him. After everything—" He stopped and turned away. One hand pressed flat against the window frame, head dropped sligh

Aria's POV I had heard it in Damian's voice before he finished the sentence. Two vehicles were spotted near Gabriel's safehouse again. Just watching.I was already moving toward the door before the word ‘watching’ finished landing. My hand hit the door handle and Damian's hand covered mine before I'd turned it."Aria.""They're watching his building." My voice came out flat."I know what it is.""Then you know I have to go—""No." He turned me around, hands on my shoulders, until I was facing him instead of the door. His eyes were steady in a way that made me want to scream because he wasn't wrong and I already knew he wasn't wrong and that made it so much worse. "Going tonight is exactly what they want. You show up alone, scared, and you hand them the control they've been waiting for.""He's my father.""I know.""He's alone in a room he doesn't recognize and there are peop

Damian's POV Victor's messenger standing on my border at midnight was either the boldest move I'd seen in years or the stupidest.I hadn't decided which yet.I stood at the border with the cold pressing in from the east and Aria two steps to my right as I watched the truck pull out.I hadn't stopped her from negotiating.I wouldn't have. But I'd wanted to. That want—the instinct to step in front of her, to put my body between her and the woman with Victor's envelope had taken real effort to override. I turned and walked back to the vehicle.Aria fell into step beside me without being asked. The drive back was quiet.I kept both hands on the wheel. The convoy behind us moved through the dark tree line and the city opened up ahead—lights, the distant part of a world that had no idea any of this was happening. Normal people in normal apartments sleeping through a Tuesday night while wo

ARIA I woke up like I’d fallen from somewhere high—heart racing, sheets twisted around my legs. For a second I didn’t know where I was. Then the thought settled in. Not my apartment. No traffic. No music through thin walls. No Nova pounding on my door because she’d forgotten her spare key again.

At the Villa's guest wing, my suitcase sat untouched at the foot of the bed with its zipper still half-open from when I’d thrown things in earlier. The room was too big—high ceilings disappearing into shadow, dark wood floors polished until they reflected the faint moonlight coming through the wind
