Chapter 5

"Connor, this young lady is..."

The female werewolf asked politely, though she seemed surprised to see Annette.

Connor smiled and said, "This is Annette, my brother's tutor."

"Nice to meet you, Annette. I'm Alina Grace."

Annette shook hands with Alina and said, "Hello, Ms. Grace."

Connor sat down and said, "Please, be seated."

Annette took a seat next to him.

Alina tore her eyes away from Annette and looked at Connor. She said gently, "I was worried that I would disturb your work by asking you out for lunch."

"No. I brought Annette together with me. You don't mind, right? After all, she and I had an appointment first."

Alina shook her head and smiled, "Not at all. I'm glad to see her. I've already ordered the dishes you like. I don't know what Annette prefers. I'll get someone to bring you the menu."

Annette waved her hand. "It's OK, Ms. Grace."

Connor stroked Annette's head gently. He gazed at her softly and said, "We love the same food."

Alina's smile froze.

However, she smiled again and said, "I'm glad to hear that. I hope you'll enjoy the food."

Annette was more embarrassed, startled by his sudden movement.

Soon, the waiter served the starters, and Connor was very sweet to Annette during the meal.

He passed a napkin to Annette and asked the waiter to fill her wine glass from time to time.

Alina didn't speak much and just ate elegantly.

Yet Alina would occasionally look at Annette. Annette couldn't tell about Alina's emotions.

After the meal, they left the restaurant together.

Connor put his arm around Annette's shoulder while walking Alina to her car.

Alina looked back at Annette and said softly, "Annette, do you mind if I speak to Connor alone for a second?"

"Of course not. I'll get in the car first." Annette turned around and walked towards Connor's car.

After Annette left, Alina looked at Connor with slightly red-rimmed eyes and said, "How have you been?"

"Pretty good."

"Don't try to make me mad in this way again. I don't want you to feel bad."

Connor said coldly, "I'm not. Plus, Annette is a great girl. Don't you think?"

"Connor, I know Annette is not your mate."

Connor smiled and said, "Just go. I still need to take Annette back to university. And I have a meeting this afternoon."

He opened the car door for her.

Alina sighed. She got in the car and left.

When Connor returned to his car, Annette looked at him and asked, "So, you asked me to join the lunch just to provoke Ms. Grace?"

"You know nothing about it." Connor's face was cold. He started the car and said, "Never speak of her again."

Annette was not convinced. However, she didn't plan to see Connor again.

She thought that it was just an excuse for Connor to ask her to wash the car. But she was wrong. Connor drove her to the car wash and asked her to wash it.

After Annette washed the car, he checked it and seemed satisfied with her work.

She breathed a sigh of relief and took off her gloves.

"Alpha Connor, can I go now?"

Connor smiled, "Sure. Get in the car. I'll give you a ride."

She said, "No thanks. I don't want to ruin the seat and wash it again."

After she finished speaking, she turned around and left the car wash.

Connor did not insist.

As he drove past her, she shook her fist at him when he drove away.

Connor saw her from the rearview mirror and was amused.

While Connor was driving, the phone in the passenger seat rang.

He glanced at it. Annette left her phone in his car.

He pulled over and took the phone. It was an incoming call from Kyle.

He thought, "So, a guy was calling her."

Annette got worried as she realized that she had left her phone in Connor's car. She wondered what to do, then, Connor drove back.

Connor lowered the window and looked at her coldly. "Get in the car."

She walked over but had no intention of getting in the car. "Give me my phone back."

"It will take you at least an hour and a half from here to the university. Are you sure you won't be late?"

She checked the time on her wrist and then opened the car door.

Connor started the car.

He said, "Someone just called you."

Annette took out her phone, glanced at the screen, and asked, "Did you pick up?"

"Of course. What if it was an emergency?"

Annette frowned. She asked, "What did he say?"

"He asked who I was and where were you."

"Then what did you say?"

"Is that important?"

"This is not your phone. You picked it up, and you refused to tell me what it was about. It's a bit inappropriate, don't you think?"

"I told him that I am your boss, and you left your bag in my car."

Annette didn't say more.

Connor asked curiously, "Is he your boyfriend? Or your mate? Did you two fight?"

She looked at him. "It's none of your business."

"She's interesting. I'm falling in love with her. What do you think, Connor?" Leo said excitedly in Conner's mind.

"I don't think you should be attracted to a werewolf who already has a mate," Connor responded coldly.

Leo let out a whimper of discontent but did not argue with Connor.

Connor drove Annette back to the werewolf university.

Annette got out of the car. She nodded at Connor and said, "Alpha Connor, thanks for the ride. Bye."

Then she turned around and walked into the building.

After taking a few steps, she heard someone shouting her name, "Ann."

Annette looked toward the other side of the gate.

A flashy sports car was parked on the other side of the road.

A tall and handsome man was leaning against the car and smiling at her.
