Chapter 13

Amelia woke up at 6 when Carlie left for work.

She got to rest today so she could sleep as much as she liked, but she couldn’t do it as she now felt too embarrassed by what happened last night.

She lay on the bed, hiding under the cover with her body curled up into a ball. To think of that kiss, her face burned with shyness and disbelief.

She had no idea why she kissed Darren like that, just like she had no idea why she always acted baldly while facing him.

Don’t you ever talk to strangers.

Don’t you ever touch another man.

For all those years, those rules Ian stipulated to her were so deeply carved into her bones. To think of the consequence of finding out by Ian, Amelia thought she would never have the courage to get intimated with anyone, whether spontaneously or not.

But last night not only did she clean his fur, she kissed his forehead and she liked it, not the feeling of their skin touching each other, but the feeling of owning the courage to do things she thought she couldn’t.
