Lorenzo's Pov
Hayley stepped out of the dressing room, and for a moment, I couldn’t look away. She was radiant, almost otherworldly, her gown hugging her curves in all the right places. It wasn’t that the dress was particularly revealing, it was her. She carried herself with a confidence I hadn’t seen before, a fire in her eyes that made her more alluring than ever. I didn’t realize I had spoken until I heard my own voice. “You look… stunning.” She tilted her head slightly, then dipped into a slight bow. “Thank you,” she saidy curtly, her tone polite but distant. Her reaction threw me off. I was used to the old Hayley, timid, eager to please, always seeking my approval. But this version of her was different. I wasn’t sure if I liked it or hated it. At some point I was happy we had the mating ceremony weeks ago for me to make her my Luna. Even if I was forced just to keep my position as the Alpha king, I needed to have a Luna and the ceremony had to be rushed too. Thanks to my father, I now have a wife. I cleared my throat and gestured toward the door. “Let’s go. We’re already late.” The drive to the party was quiet, though the air between us felt charged. When we arrived, the valet opened her door first, and I followed behind her. As we entered the grand hall, I noticed heads turning. Eyes followed her every step, men and women alike unable to look away. She was undeniably the most captivating person in the room. She leaned closer to me, her voice low. “Why are they staring at me?” I smirked, unable to resist teasing her. “Probably because you’re ugly.” She stopped in her tracks and turned to me with a sweet smile. “Oh, thank you for clearing that up.” Then, without warning, she stepped on my toe, her heel digging in painfully. I winced but bit back a groan as she continued walking, her head held high. “You’re welcome,” she said over her shoulder, still smiling. I shook my head, following her to our seats. She was really above what I ever expected. The party began, and I settled into a corner as the waiters passed the drinks around, letting the buzz of voices and the hum of the music played fill the room. Hayley, however, was far from relaxed. She seemed distracted, her eyes scanning the crowd as if looking for someone, or something. “We welcome you all to this party and as the host, I say we give each and everyone of us the chance to feel at home, like we always do, now let's make some noise!” the host announced, holding up the microphone and his hands to cheer the crowd. “I can't imagine holding up this long because of some new kids joining the community, is this really a party?” Hayley said suddenly, her voice firm. I glanced at her. “What about it?” “It’s noisy. This isn't how a party should be,” she said, her eyes locked on the people around. I raised an eyebrow. “It’s a party, Hayley. Everyone's having fun.” “I don’t care,” she said. “I just hate it here. Can't you see? They're all….” With a sigh, I went up to the music man and told him to switch the music to a more slow function for a dance. I had that influence and it worked. I returned back to Hayley who was getting distracted by something else and I grabbed her attention. “Happy now?” I asked, leaning closer to her. “Very,” she replied, smiling faintly. The doors at the back of the hall opened, and a group of men entered. They moved with practiced precision. Leading them was a man I hadn’t seen in weeks…Lucian. His reputation preceded him, and then the whole community made it so that he would feel himself even as a dangerous rival. He always traveled with an entourage, his bodyguards flanking him like shadows. The host paused to acknowledge him. “Alphas, Lunas, Betas, Omegas and our new members…. Let's welcome the one with so much love, that had a thoughtful idea of celebrating our newly found families” Applause rippled through the room, but my focus was on Hayley. Her body tensed, her hands gripping the edge of her seat. “What’s wrong?” I asked, leaning closer. Her voice was strained as she whispered, “I want to leave.” “No,” I said firmly. “We’re staying.” Before I could press her further, the party ended, and people began to mingle. Suddenly, Stella appeared on stage, microphone in hand. “Hey, everyone, ” she announced, her voice cutting through the chatter. “There’s been a slight issue. A necklace belonging to me has gone missing, and I cannot allow anyone to leave until it’s found.” The room buzzed with murmurs and whispers. Guards began searching bags and pockets, and before long, they reached Hayley. One of the guards opened her bag, and it was found almost immediately. The whispers turned into gasps, and all eyes fell on her. I stared at the necklace in disbelief, my mind racing. I knew she hadn’t stolen it. She had been with me the entire time before the party. Stella stepped forward, her face a mask of smug satisfaction. “Care to explain, Hayley?” I clenched my jaw, stepping between them. “That’s enough, Stella.” She raised an eyebrow, her smile widening. “What’s wrong, Alpha? Defending your little thief of a wife?” I took a deep breath, keeping my voice steady. “Hayley has been with me all evening. In fact, we were making out before the auction started. Isn’t that right, darling?” Hayley’s eyes widened slightly, but she quickly masked her surprise and nodded. I turned back to Stella. “Maybe you should explain why you insisted Hayley use that bag tonight. Were you planning something, Stella?” The murmurs in the crowd grew louder. Stella’s face turned red, and she stammered, “I…I don’t know what you’re talking about.” The atmosphere in the room was tense and I had a smile on my face, and just when I thought it couldn’t get worse, Lucian stepped forward. “Defending your wife so passionately, Alpha Lorenzo,” he said, his voice smooth and deliberate. “It’s admirable.” Then he turned his gaze to Hayley, a slow smile spreading across his face. “Nice to meet you again, Hayley.” My stomach dropped at his words. I looked between them, trying to piece together the meaning behind his cryptic statement. “What do you mean by that?” I asked, my voice sharp. Lucian’s smile widened, but he didn’t answer. Instead, his gaze was on Hayley, who just gave him a death stare. “Lorenzo, let's go.” She said, holding my hands and a forced smile was on her face. ‘What was going on between these two?’ I thought so hard.Hayley's POV “What are we doing here Stella!” I turned to her unable to contain my anger. “You really need to calm down,” she whispered. “You said you were going to get solutions, but you have only brought us to our enemies' base.”“Relax,” she said, grabbing my hand. “We should speak to him, I will explain later.” “No!” I snatch my hand out of her grip. “This man walked out on the Alpha and disrespected him publicly.” “And he is ready to do worse.” Stella snapped, “He is the only ally we need. He got the other mafias out of the council room with only a signal from his hand. Don't you understand, he could do more.” I raised my head and took a glance at Vanya now. He sat there, watching as we discussed him as if he weren't present. He looked every bit the schemer, despite the attractive looks and charming personality presented on social media and in the magazines. Anyone with a working brain would know t
Hayley's POV My blood turned cold, my throat closing up as shivers of fear filtered through me. I turned around and looked at the car, it would be impossible for me to sprint towards it and run home. What had I been thinking, this place was out of bounds for me. “Aren't you going to say anything Luna?” one of the men chuckled, “Are you surprised?” “You have no right to sack this place and treat its inhabitants as slaves.” Those words came out with the last boldness left in my mind. I was a ton of miles away from home. Anything could happen right here and now. “Your husband has not yet been declared the king of the realm.” the second man said to me. “You may have the support of the other packs including the minor and the major ones, but the people of the fallen pack will never bow their heads to anyone who is not their own. You waste your time, Lunar Hayley.” He suddenly grabbed my chin and laughed in my face, his breath smelling like rotten eggs and bacteria. I tried to wriggle
Hayley's POV It took everything in me not to grab the stupid mafia man by the neck and strangle him to death. Descendants of my pack were being traded abroad, forced to sell their bodies and engage in manual labour. I never expected this turnout. Not in this manner. I couldn't believe this was how my people had been suffering. "Mr De la Vega I have called us here for something very important," Lorenzo said into the silence obviously noticing the sudden shift in my demeanor. "And what is that supposed to mean," another mafia leader asked. "We are criminals, stylized and dignified ones. You can't give us a curfew.""But I can wage war against you all and have you killed," Lorenzo growled, clenching his fist. I could see the muscles breaking out of his neck and tension descending on the atmosphere. "You need to stop this, all of you. Of course, you play an integral role in the social and economic aspect of the pack but you cannot be allowed any further," he said firmly, rising to h
Hayley's POV"Are you dressed yet? You'll be sitting with me in the council today. The management will be arriving by noon." "Noon?" I spun around, my eyes widening in shock as Lorenzo closed the door behind him. "Yes," he answered walking over to drop a can of coconut and strawberry yogurt on my vanity table."But why today? You don't normally want me around." Lorenzo saw the anger in my eyes and I remembered those times he would brush me aside and keep pack affairs away from me. "You need to take on the role of Luna." he finally said. "I didn't marry you to attend tea parties, hang out with wives of billionaires, and do unneeded charities. You are not a figure, you are the queen and I want you to be a politician as well." Even though I hate it, I was delighted by the news. Ever since I traveled from the past, I had yet to find any information regarding my father's pack and its surviving members. I learned that some parts of our territory and our lands have been sold off but I w
Stella's POVI had every inkling to run away, to build out of that room and never again return. This was not what I expected, a man's head blasted to pieces right in front of me. Turns out Lucien truly isn't an ordinary person to deal with. "I am not frugal with my spending and I'm a very intentional man, my dear Stella," he said before I left, leaning over me, his breath smelling of whiskey and stale mint."What is that supposed to mean?", I stuttered, struggling to move away from him. "You can't have anything you want once I have my lovely Hayley back in my arms," he answered. "Money, wealth, and fame. All of this I would give to you within the snap of a finger. Make sure the deed is clean and perfect." By the time I arrived back at the castle, the gates had been closed and the night guards had started patrol. Despite the thick cover of the darkness, it took me all the stealth in the world to get past Lorenzo's perfectly trained guards. My heart was thumping in my chest. The qu
Stella's POV.The next day, the evening rolled around slower than usual. I was pacing back and forth in my room like a madwoman, checking the clock every five minutes. My palms were sweaty, and my throat felt dry no matter how much water I drank. What the hell was I even doing? Meeting a complete stranger, someone who hated Hayley just as much as I did? It was stupid.Or maybe it was genius, but only if it turned out to be true.I walked to the door and opened it slowly, half expecting to see a different face. But it was him, the guard from yesterday. He looked around the hallway quickly before he gave me a small nod."Ready?" He asked."As ready as I'll ever be." I muttered, not adding the part that I've been waiting for at least thirty minutes. We didn't talk as we moved through the corridors, and I kept my distance from him, in case we were seen. He led me through a different route, and I didn't ask questions. My brain was buzzing too much. Finally, we reached a small door tucked a
