LOGINLorenzo's Pov
Hayley stepped out of the dressing room, and for a moment, I couldn’t look away. She was radiant, almost otherworldly, her gown hugging her curves in all the right places. It wasn’t that the dress was particularly revealing, it was her. She carried herself with a confidence I hadn’t seen before, a fire in her eyes that made her more alluring than ever. I didn’t realize I had spoken until I heard my own voice. “You look… stunning.” She tilted her head slightly, then dipped into a slight bow. “Thank you,” she saidy curtly, her tone polite but distant. Her reaction threw me off. I was used to the old Hayley, timid, eager to please, always seeking my approval. But this version of her was different. I wasn’t sure if I liked it or hated it. At some point I was happy we had the mating ceremony weeks ago for me to make her my Luna. Even if I was forced just to keep my position as the Alpha king, I needed to have a Luna and the ceremony had to be rushed too. Thanks to my father, I now have a wife. I cleared my throat and gestured toward the door. “Let’s go. We’re already late.” The drive to the party was quiet, though the air between us felt charged. When we arrived, the valet opened her door first, and I followed behind her. As we entered the grand hall, I noticed heads turning. Eyes followed her every step, men and women alike unable to look away. She was undeniably the most captivating person in the room. She leaned closer to me, her voice low. “Why are they staring at me?” I smirked, unable to resist teasing her. “Probably because you’re ugly.” She stopped in her tracks and turned to me with a sweet smile. “Oh, thank you for clearing that up.” Then, without warning, she stepped on my toe, her heel digging in painfully. I winced but bit back a groan as she continued walking, her head held high. “You’re welcome,” she said over her shoulder, still smiling. I shook my head, following her to our seats. She was really above what I ever expected. The party began, and I settled into a corner as the waiters passed the drinks around, letting the buzz of voices and the hum of the music played fill the room. Hayley, however, was far from relaxed. She seemed distracted, her eyes scanning the crowd as if looking for someone, or something. “We welcome you all to this party and as the host, I say we give each and everyone of us the chance to feel at home, like we always do, now let's make some noise!” the host announced, holding up the microphone and his hands to cheer the crowd. “I can't imagine holding up this long because of some new kids joining the community, is this really a party?” Hayley said suddenly, her voice firm. I glanced at her. “What about it?” “It’s noisy. This isn't how a party should be,” she said, her eyes locked on the people around. I raised an eyebrow. “It’s a party, Hayley. Everyone's having fun.” “I don’t care,” she said. “I just hate it here. Can't you see? They're all….” With a sigh, I went up to the music man and told him to switch the music to a more slow function for a dance. I had that influence and it worked. I returned back to Hayley who was getting distracted by something else and I grabbed her attention. “Happy now?” I asked, leaning closer to her. “Very,” she replied, smiling faintly. The doors at the back of the hall opened, and a group of men entered. They moved with practiced precision. Leading them was a man I hadn’t seen in weeks…Lucian. His reputation preceded him, and then the whole community made it so that he would feel himself even as a dangerous rival. He always traveled with an entourage, his bodyguards flanking him like shadows. The host paused to acknowledge him. “Alphas, Lunas, Betas, Omegas and our new members…. Let's welcome the one with so much love, that had a thoughtful idea of celebrating our newly found families” Applause rippled through the room, but my focus was on Hayley. Her body tensed, her hands gripping the edge of her seat. “What’s wrong?” I asked, leaning closer. Her voice was strained as she whispered, “I want to leave.” “No,” I said firmly. “We’re staying.” Before I could press her further, the party ended, and people began to mingle. Suddenly, Stella appeared on stage, microphone in hand. “Hey, everyone, ” she announced, her voice cutting through the chatter. “There’s been a slight issue. A necklace belonging to me has gone missing, and I cannot allow anyone to leave until it’s found.” The room buzzed with murmurs and whispers. Guards began searching bags and pockets, and before long, they reached Hayley. One of the guards opened her bag, and it was found almost immediately. The whispers turned into gasps, and all eyes fell on her. I stared at the necklace in disbelief, my mind racing. I knew she hadn’t stolen it. She had been with me the entire time before the party. Stella stepped forward, her face a mask of smug satisfaction. “Care to explain, Hayley?” I clenched my jaw, stepping between them. “That’s enough, Stella.” She raised an eyebrow, her smile widening. “What’s wrong, Alpha? Defending your little thief of a wife?” I took a deep breath, keeping my voice steady. “Hayley has been with me all evening. In fact, we were making out before the auction started. Isn’t that right, darling?” Hayley’s eyes widened slightly, but she quickly masked her surprise and nodded. I turned back to Stella. “Maybe you should explain why you insisted Hayley use that bag tonight. Were you planning something, Stella?” The murmurs in the crowd grew louder. Stella’s face turned red, and she stammered, “I…I don’t know what you’re talking about.” The atmosphere in the room was tense and I had a smile on my face, and just when I thought it couldn’t get worse, Lucian stepped forward. “Defending your wife so passionately, Alpha Lorenzo,” he said, his voice smooth and deliberate. “It’s admirable.” Then he turned his gaze to Hayley, a slow smile spreading across his face. “Nice to meet you again, Hayley.” My stomach dropped at his words. I looked between them, trying to piece together the meaning behind his cryptic statement. “What do you mean by that?” I asked, my voice sharp. Lucian’s smile widened, but he didn’t answer. Instead, his gaze was on Hayley, who just gave him a death stare. “Lorenzo, let's go.” She said, holding my hands and a forced smile was on her face. ‘What was going on between these two?’ I thought so hard.Lorenzo's POVI was close to shifting. I could feel the rage in my wolf and the sudden energy radiating through my veins. I didn't need to look around. Golf Palace was already empty. No one would dare to witness a fight between two giant Alpha Wolves. Not even Damon, who stood at the entrance of the club, fidgety, waiting for the right time to escape. But I didn't let that happen. I couldn't. Not when I'd actually started the fight. Or when Lucian was looking to make a fool of me. The little ruby wasn't worth an iota of my attention, much less my wrath.“Let's get out of here Damon,” I finally said, letting out a long stream of breath to release my anger. “I shouldn't wreck a million-dollar investment because of a loser.”“Is that true Enzo?” Lucian scoffed, “Because from the looks of things, you're the scared one. In fact, your life is centred around fear. You're afraid to lose your kingdom, your wife, your business and then your stupid and weak wolf. I'm no match for you, Enzo, and
Stella's POV I watched Fiyero crash into one of the chairs in the council room, and bury his head between his palms. He was not only sullen, but he was frustrated, even discouraged. I couldn't name my happiness. It was one of those moments I felt my head swell with pride. First I got rid of the Luna's Crest, dashing Hayley's hope of a stable rule, now his alliance with Hayley had been dissolved, and now... The Doctor! Dr Malcolm, that vulture-looking old hag. Yes, Hayley mentioned having an appointment with him. He had been in the service for the pack long before Lorenzo was born. He was good at his field, holding the record for the most impossible surgeries done. I hated that, I hated him. As soon as I heard Hayley close the door of her suit, I slipped out of my Hiding place and dashed after him, calling out his name as he approached his car.“Mr Romano! Can I please talk to you for a minute?”Fiyero heard my voice
Hayley's POV “Stella! Have you lost your mind? You can't address me in that manner.” Are those words, A mischievous glint crossed her face, then a small smile at the corners of her lips. “Very well then. I don't have the Luna's Crest. I think you should return to your suite, for the sake of your baby's health.”“The Crest has something to do with my baby!” I couldn't help the quiver in my lips or the crack in my voice. “There is something terrible happening. I need to have the crest!”“And I already answered. I don't know where it is. I must've said something about a gift, but it isn't that old item. You can go to the moon temple and speak with the nuns, they know more about the edifice than anyone alive.” “But why have you suddenly changed again Stella?” I moved away from the door, but I didn't forget to leave it slightly open. The aura around Stella was once again unfriendly, but I wasn't ready to be deterred
Hayley’s POVI had risen long before the household stirred, slipping quietly into the garden just to avoid Lorenzo. I busied myself with the flower bushes, pruning, trimming, pulling weeds that didn’t need pulling. Truth was, I wasn’t tending to the garden for the sake of beauty. I was hiding. The memory of last night sat heavily in my chest. My heart still hadn’t recovered from it. We had just begun to find some rhythm together after so many years of living like strangers. So when I heard the sound of his car starting. I finally allowed myself to breathe. Relief washed over me. I dusted soil from my fingers, abandoned the garden, and hurried inside. My feet carried me to the upper floor, toward Stella’s chambers. Perhaps she could give me some answers, though a part of me knew approaching her was dangerous. Still, something pulled me there.I knocked softly. Silence.I waited. Knocked again.Sti
Lorenzo’s POVThe morning sun did nothing to warm me. It only sharpened the ache I carried from the night before. My throat still felt raw from the words I had hurled at Hayley, words I wished I could take back.I sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the empty side where she should have been. No imprint on the sheets, no warmth. She hadn’t returned after leaving in the middle of the night, or perhaps she had returned briefly, then risen before dawn just to avoid me.Either way, she wasn't beside me.I dragged a hand over my face, heavy with guilt. What had I done?It felt as if, after years of cold distance, she and I had just begun to find each other again. The bond we had ignored for so long had started to grow quietly between us. But I had shattered it last night in my temper, in my suspicion.I should have spoken gently. I should have asked instead of accused. But patience had never been my virtue, a
Stella’s POVThe walls in Lorenzo’s mansion were thinner than he realized. Or maybe I had simply grown too skilled at lingering in shadows, pressing myself into corners where I could drink in every word not meant for me. I had attained a deeper height in eavesdropping, good for me. From the hallway outside their room, I heard the first sharp edge in his voice.“Who took this picture?”A pause. The sound of rustling fabric. Then Hayley’s voice, uncertain, too soft for my liking.“Why are you asking me?”I smiled, tilting my head against the wall. My plan had landed exactly where I wanted it to. The picture I slipped into his path like poison in a wine glass had found its mark. Now, the venom worked through both their veins.“You and Fiyero,” Lorenzo snapped, the words hard enough to slice. “Why were you seen together like this?”The smile curved wider on my lips. Oh, Lorenzo. How quick you were to doubt. How easy it was to plant rot in the garden of your so-called trust.I leaned agai
