Kael woke to the sound of stone cracking.

His eyes opened immediately.

The fire had burned low, leaving only a faint orange glow across the camp.

For a moment, he didn't remember where he was.

Then he remembered.

Silver Valley.

His father.

Lucien.

The Moon Gate.

The prophecy.

Kael sat up.

Something was wrong.

His wolf was awake.

Someone is calling.

Kael stood.

“Lucien.”

The King was already awake.

He stood several steps away, sword drawn.

“I heard it too.”

Rowan and Darius rose behind them.

Elyon was nowhere to be seen.

Kael looked around.

“Where is he?”

A voice answered from the darkness.

“He left.”

Kael turned.

Elyon stood on the ridge above them.

“Why?” Lucien demanded.

Elyon looked toward the mountain.

“Because he knows the way in.”

Kael's heart began to race.

“In where?”

Elyon's eyes met his.

“To the prison where your father is being held.”

They moved before sunrise.

The entrance was hidden behind a waterfall frozen in silver ice.

Elyon pressed his palm against the rock.

A crescent-shaped mark appeared.

The mountain opened.

Kael stared.

“You've been here before.”

Elyon nodded.

“Once.”

“When?”

“Eighteen years ago.”

Kael stopped walking.

“The night I was born?”

“Yes.”

Kael's voice became quiet.

“What were you doing here?”

Elyon looked at him.

“Trying to save your father.”

Kael's expression changed.

“But you failed.”

“I was too late.”

They entered the mountain.

The passage descended deeper and deeper.

The walls were covered with ancient carvings wolves kneeling beneath moons, kings wearing crowns, Omegas standing beside Alphas rather than beneath them.

Kael touched one of the carvings.

“This isn't how the kingdoms teach history.”

“They don't want you to know this history,” Elyon said.

“Why?”

“Because it proves the old order was never inevitable.”

Lucien glanced at the carvings.

“Someone deliberately erased it.”

Elyon nodded.

“The Council.”

Darius frowned.

“Why would they erase their own history?”

“Because power depends on what people believe.”

Kael looked at the image again.

An Alpha and an Omega stood side by side beneath a crescent moon.

No chains.

No collars.

No submission.

Just equality.

Kael whispered,

“This is what the Moon wanted.”

Elyon looked at him.

“Yes.”

They reached the bottom of the passage.

A massive iron door stood before them.

Three symbols were carved into it.

A crescent.

A blood drop.

A silver key.

Kael looked at Lucien.

“The three seals.”

Lucien raised his wrist.

The Guardian Seal glowed.

Kael touched the crescent.

His Moon Seal responded.

Elyon placed his hand against the blood symbol.

Nothing happened.

He frowned.

“It isn't me.”

Kael looked at him.

“Then who?”

A voice came from behind the door.

“Me.”

Kael froze.

His heart stopped.

He knew that voice.

“Father?”

Silence.

Then

“Kael?”

Kael's eyes filled with tears.

He stepped forward.

“Father!”

Lucien caught his shoulder.

“Wait.”

Kael looked at him.

Lucien's expression was tense.

“There could be a trap.”

Kael understood.

He took a breath.

“Father, are you hurt?”

A weak laugh came from behind the door.

“I've been better.”

Kael almost laughed through his tears.

“It really is you.”

“Yes, my son.”

Kael closed his eyes.

For eighteen years, he had imagined this moment.

He had imagined anger.

Questions.

Maybe even hatred.

But hearing his father's voice erased all of it.

“Why didn't you come for me?”

Silence.

Then Cassian answered.

“Because I couldn't.”

Kael's jaw tightened.

“Were you imprisoned?”

“Yes.”

“By the Alpha Council?”

“Yes.”

“Why did they keep you alive?”

“They wanted something from me.”

“What?”

“The location of the Moon Throne.”

Kael looked toward the symbols.

“And you refused?”

“I would rather die.”

Kael swallowed.

“Mother said you were alive.”

“She knew?”

“She found a way to reach the Moon Kingdom.”

Cassian was silent.

Then his voice became softer.

“Your mother always was clever.”

Kael smiled through his tears.

“She's alive too.”

“I know.”

Kael froze.

“You know?”

“I felt her through the Moon Bond.”

“Where is she?”

“Beyond the Silver Forest.”

Kael looked toward Elyon.

“Why didn't you tell me?”

Elyon's expression was troubled.

“Because your father made me promise.”

Kael turned back toward the door.

“Why?”

Cassian answered.

“Because if the Council discovered that both of us were alive, they would use you to find us.”

Kael's fists tightened.

“They already found me.”

“I know.”

A deep rumble shook the mountain.

Cassian's voice suddenly became urgent.

“You need to leave.”

Kael frowned.

“No.”

“Kael, listen to me.”

“No!”

His voice echoed through the chamber.

“I've spent my whole life being told to run.”

He stepped toward the door.

“I ran from the Council.”

Another step.

“I ran from the prophecy.”

Another.

“I ran from the idea that I could ever belong anywhere.”

His voice broke.

“But I'm not running from my family.”

Silence.

Then Cassian whispered,

“My son.”

The blood symbol on the door began to glow.

Kael's Moon Seal responded.

Lucien's Guardian Seal followed.

Three lights appeared.

Crescent.

Blood.

Key.

The iron door began to open.

But before it could fully unlock, the entire mountain shook.

Darius drew his sword.

“Company.”

Elyon looked toward the passage.

His expression changed.

“They followed us.”

“Who?”

Elyon's hand tightened around his weapon.

“The Council.”

The passage behind them filled with footsteps.

Hundreds.

Then a voice echoed through the darkness.

“Kael.”

Varek.

Kael's eyes hardened.

“I thought he escaped.”

Elyon shook his head.

“He wanted us to believe that.”

Lucien stepped in front of Kael.

Varek appeared at the far end of the tunnel, surrounded by heavily armed soldiers.

His armor was different now.

Black.

Marked with silver.

The symbol of the Alpha Council covered his chest.

Varek smiled.

“King Lucien.”

Lucien's sword rose.

“You followed us.”

“No.”

Varek's eyes moved toward the door.

“I followed the seals.”

Kael stepped forward.

“You knew my father was here.”

“Yes.”

“And you kept him imprisoned.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Varek's gaze hardened.

“Because your father refused to accept what you are.”

Kael frowned.

“What am I?”

Varek smiled.

“The final key.”

Kael's Moon Seal burned.

The door behind him opened another inch.

Cassian shouted from inside,

“Kael, don't let them take you to the throne!”

Everyone went silent.

Kael turned toward the door.

“Why?”

Cassian's voice trembled.

“Because the throne is not what you think.”

Varek laughed.

“Now you understand.”

Kael looked at him.

“What does that mean?”

Varek pointed toward the opening door.

“The Moon Throne doesn't give its ruler power.”

His smile became cold.

“It takes something in return.”

Kael's blood ran cold.

“What?”

Varek didn't answer.

Instead, he ordered his soldiers forward.

“Take the Moon King alive.”

Lucien shifted.

Rowan drew his sword.

Darius raised his weapon.

Elyon stepped beside Kael.

The door behind them began to glow brighter.

Kael looked at the people standing beside him.

His father was behind the door.

His mother was somewhere beyond the mountains.

Lucien stood at his side.

And an army was coming for him.

Kael lifted his sword.

“Then let them come.”

The Moon Seal exploded with silver light.

The mountain roared.

And somewhere deep beneath them, the forgotten Moon Throne awakened.
