AUTHOR’S POV

He went still. His breath hitched in his throat as he stared at her. It felt as though he had just heard the most absurd words ever existing.

“How?” He questioned, a little bit scared to mention the word again because he was aware of what the dangers of being one were.

Eleanor inflicted gentle pain on her fingers as she thought of the best way to explain because she, too, had no idea.

“Talk to me, El!” He ordered, his voice shaking a little.

The tears stinging her eyes started to let themselves roll down her cheeks. He curbed her chin up to stare at her confused expression, his other fingers running through his hair.

“Fuck!” He cussed because he knew she could get killed if they knew.

He was willing to lose the same person he just got back.

Her sobs heightened.

“I’m sorry, Cruz. I should have told you earlier. I just thought you might…despise me.” She confessed, her heart squeezing hard at each word.
