The same black car. Just a longer version parked in front of my home.
It was already gaining attention.
I was very irritated at this point, cause I had finally managed to forget that incident with the weird lady.
Every fancy black car seemed suspicious to me ever since that day .
“ Bye mom, bye Stan” I said as I rushed out for my 8am shift
I ignored the car and walked quickly on my way to the bus stop.
The car drove quietly and slowly at my side.
I pretended to not notice but it was irritating.
With a huff and annoyance I waited for the bus while the car parked close to the bus stop.
Stepping into the bus , I greeted the driver and paid quickly to grab a seat at the back but all were occupied so I sat closer to the door and put on my headset.
The black car drove at the side of the bus, close enough for me to notice it.
Whosoever the driver was , he or she was a creep. I thought to myself.
I ignored the car once again and closed my eyes , focusing on the music.
The honk of the car startled me as I looked at the car from the window with annoyance.
The window slowly went down, surprisingly it was not the window at the driver’s seat. It was the one behind .
His eyes were the first thing I noticed.
How could I forget those eyes, that always seemed to read through me.
I gasped in recognition while a blush crept onto my face as he looked at me with a glint in his eyes.
I quickly turned ,looking for anything in my front to focus on.
His stare was still felt by me even through the glass.
I refused to look at the car again as my heart raced.
I didn’t even understand why my body reacted that way in his presence .
The bus ride all of a sudden seemed slow.
Finally arriving at my destination. I hurriedly alighted and rushed into the shop.
It was a matter of time , before the familiar figure stood at my front.
We stared for a while before his lips moved.
“Black” I heard
“Huh?” I questioned in confusion
“ I’ll need my coffee, black” he stated
“Oh” I responded , surprised at his statement as he quirked a brow at my response
“Um… would you like anything else?” I asked professionally as I realized we were in a bakery shop.
Of course , ordering a coffee was perfectly normal.
“ A vanilla cake will be okay “ he replied as he went to take a seat at the edge of the shop.
The seat was a perfect watch stand for him to continue staring at me.
His gaze made me self conscious, I transferred his order to a colleague.
I was simply trying to avoid any dialogue with him.
I continued my work normally, taking glances at him eating.
He was reading a magazine which was earlier brought in by a middle aged man in suit.
He looked very handsome as he read and subtly munched on his cake.
I blushed at the flash back of his mouth on mine as a smile crept onto my face.
I noticed he had stopped eating and continued his staring.
“ You took the man’s order?” Pete, my colleague asked me
“ Yh, why?” I asked
“ He wants to receive the bill from you” he stated as he walked into the bakery.
I took the bill from the cashier and walked to him as calmly as I could.
I handed it to him on reaching there , he received it ,without glancing at it ,retrieved a hundred dollar bill and placed it on the table.
I looked at him with a frown.
He took the bill and the note and stretched it towards me.
“ Your bill is thirty dollars” I stated in confusion
“ Here. Keep the change “ he said as he picked his magazine and stood.
“ The difference is much . I can’t accept this” I stated . I could accept it but coming from him, Something was definitely off.
“ Yes you can but if you insist, you can take ten dollars as your tip and assume the rest as yours for that night” he stated coldly
“ That night “ I whispered.
In realization, I frowned in annoyance.
“Excuse me?”
“ You’re excused, you can thank the baker, the cake was delicious “ he responded as he walked out
while i stared in disbelief and annoyance. I felt insulted .
I angrily walked back to my post and tried to calm myself down.
If all he wanted to do was to insult me , he definitely did not have to follow me from my home to the shop for such pettiness. I thought to myself as I took orders from customers.
My mood was sour till my shift ended in the evening.
All I wanted to do was sleep and not think about anything especially a man.
I had other priorities.
Packed my bags and some leftover pastries that was given to me and headed home.
“ Get in” a voice said as I turned to meet his eyes. Leonard. I ignored him and continued walking
“ Get in Sophia, or should I say Queen?” He asked as I froze in my steps
“ How did you find out?” I asked
“ Same way I found your home and your work place “ he stated
“ How is that?” I questioned
“ It’s me. I can find anything I search for” he arrogantly said
“Shiva Global” I stated
“So you did meet Natasha.” He stated
“My PA”he continued as I gave no reply
“ Just get in”he said with a sigh
“ After what you pulled at the shop. No thank you“ I stated as I continued walking .
“ If you don’t, I’ll do worse tomorrow “ he stated as I looked at him in shock.
Deep down I knew he was dead serious and I could do nothing about it.
The next morning, I woke up feeling like I was walking on clouds. Leo was still asleep beside me, a peaceful expression on his face.I gently got out of bed and made my way to the bathroom to wash up, after which I moved to the kitchen to make some coffee. As I waited for the brew to finish, I stared out the window, feeling grateful and at peace.Leo came up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist."Good morning," he whispered, his voice sending shivers down my spine.I turned around, smiling."Good morning," I replied, leaning in for a kiss.“Would have loved to shower with you.” He told me as he breathed my scent in. I laughed and pecked his lips.“Another time.” I said as he nodded. As we sipped our coffee together and munched on the breakfast made by the chef, I knew that this was just the beginning of our happily ever after.I could hardly believe it myself, but the moment felt too big to keep to myself. The ring was still sparkling on my finger, and I couldn’t wait to tell P
As we pulled away from the kiss, I gazed up at Leo, feeling like I was floating in the air. He smiled back at me, his eyes shining with happiness."We should celebrate," he said, his voice filled with excitement, after the waiters applauded and wished us well.I nodded, still feeling dazed. "Yes, we should". Over a bottle of wine and a delicious meal, we talked about our future, our dreams, and our plans. As the night wore on, I felt like I was getting to know Leo all over again. He was still the same kind, caring, and thoughtful person I had fallen in love with, but now he was also my fiancé.After dinner, we walked along the river, enjoying the cool night air and the sound of the water. Leo put his arm around me, pulling me close, and I felt like I was home.As we stood there, looking out at the city lights, Leo turned to me with a serious expression."Sophia, I promise you, I will always be here for you," he said, his voice filled with conviction. "I will always support you, always
And in the midst of it all, Leo and I were planning our next step. Together. By the next week, most of my items had been moved to his place. The soft hum of the car's engine was the only sound filling the space as Leo drove. His hand rested gently on mine, his thumb tracing the soft skin of my hand absentmindedly.Leo glanced over at me as he drove into his driveway, his eyes soft but full of concern. "Are you okay?" he asked quietly, his voice barely above a whisper.I smiled, though it felt fragile, a little shaky. "I’m fine. I promise."His eyes didn’t leave me, as if searching for a hint of doubt in my words. "You know you can talk to me about anything, right?”I nodded and smiled at his kindness. "I know. It's just... sometimes the past feels heavy. I don’t know if I’m ready to let it all go yet." I turned my face toward the window, watching the world pass by. "But... you make it easier. You make me feel lighter."Leo reached over and brushed his thumb across my cheek. "You don’t
The day had been quiet, the kind of peaceful where your thoughts have a chance to settle and take root.Leo and I had spent most of the afternoon together, quietly enjoying each other’s company. A conversation had been brewing in my mind for some time now. It wasn’t something I’d planned to bring up, but it felt like the right moment.I closed my novel and turned to Leo, catching him looking at me with that familiar, soft smile—the one that always made my heart skip a beat. But today, there was something else in his eyes, an unspoken question."So," I began, my voice a little tentative. "I’ve been thinking a lot about… well, everything." I took a deep breath, steadying myself. "About us, and the future."He shifted slightly after dropping his phone, turning to face me fully. "I’ve been thinking about that, too. What’s on your mind?"I hesitated before speaking again. "I think it’s time we talked about moving in together."Leo raised an eyebrow, a smile tugging at his lips, but there w
“Grace told me she named you Sophia, like royalty. I wanted you to bear the family’s name, but Grace refused. She chose to take you as hers. To make sure you never question your identity. I didn’t think it was possible, Gregory didn’t like the idea of being a father before the wedding. Somehow, we all chose to love you.” He continued as he touched my hair.“I would have loved to meet her.” I told him as I smiled warmly at him.“You have her hair and freckles. Grace had a curly head just like me and Thalia and her mom, had straight brown hair.” He blurted out as I tucked my hair behind my ears, feeling self-conscious.“Why don’t I remember you then?” I asked in confusion.“Because I stopped coming when you were still little.” He replied.“Why?” I asked.“Grace, relocated and kept you hidden. We had a fallout. I hated Gregory’s gambling addiction. I hated how useless he was when Grace was pregnant with Stan…I was scared that I'd lose you or Grace, and it would be too late for me to do a
“I don’t understand.” I said as I hurriedly tried to match his pace. His long legs made his strides difficult to follow.“That’s why I’m here.” He said to me as he abruptly stopped. I halted just in time before I could crash into his back.I sighed and frowned at the underlying hero complex I perceived from him.“Why are we here?” I asked him softly. He pointed to the tomb stones at our front.“Thalia Maxwell and… Desmond Maxwell.” I read out loud, before I turned to him in confusion.“These are your parents.” He stated as I stared in disbelief at the graves before me.“How?” I asked with a whisper as I gripped my necklace tightly.“Grace was your aunt… not your mother. Albeit, she did everything a mother should. She was good at that-proving a point.” He told me.“What point?” I asked.“You see, your mother, Thalia was a free spirit…never sat at one place for long. She loved adventures, and it wasn’t a surprise, when she told me, she had met a man and fallen in love with him.” He said
