Kiara walkked out of her room with a smile on her face, but her mind swirled with thoughts from her talk with Devon on their date.

She tried to believe his words that the moon goddess wouldn't have chosen her if she wasn't capable of it, but she couldn't. She only ended up as his mate because Kristen betrayed her, there was nothing divine about a betrayal. Deep inside, she wanted to march up to Devon and tell him that she knew she wouldn't be able to fulfil the needed roles of a Luna in this pack, and that he should let her go, but she couldn't bring herself to suffer another rejection, and definitely not from him.

“You underestimate yourself a lot, Kiara” Kali whispered gently and both of Kiara’s brows shot up, “Devon was right, the moon goddess wouldn't have mated you to him if you weren't up to the task.”

“Then what about Kristen? What if it had worked out with Kristen, I wouldn't even be here?”

While she was still expecting a response from Kali, she felt two fingers on her forehead, trying to smoothen out the lines that had formed there.

“You are thinking too hard, “ Devon said, smiling yet frowning slightly, and Kiara’s lips instantly and unconsciously tugged up in a small smile.

“And you are here…” she said, looking around, “instead of my instructor for the day.”

Smirking, he placed his hands behind his back and stood straighter.

“That's because I am your instructor for the day, Ma’am.”

It took Kiara a few seconds to hear and process what he just said, and her eyes slowly widened as her mind finally realized what he just said, “I never knew you were part of my instructors.” She expected it to be Eliza or Luka, but definetly not him.

Grabbing her hand, Devon led them out of the guest house and into his car. “I was never a part of your training crew,” he admitted then shut the door.

“What changed?” Kiara wasted no time in asking as soon as he got into the car, and he sighed.

“Well, let’s just say that I enjoyed yesterday so much that I don't want anyone else to spend that much time with you.” The words rolled off his tongue with so much ease, and Kiara’s cheeks turned a deep shade of red as the tips of her ears burned hot.

She loved hearing him say that, and it embarrassed her.

When she said nothing in response, Devon glanced at her, worried he had said something wrong, but his worry soon turned into a triumphant smirk when he saw the redness of her cheeks. “You look so beautiful with rosy cheeks.”

This time around, Kiara reached out and slapped his arm lightly. She was worried her heart would fail her if he kept saying things like that to her. She wasn't used to hearing them, and now that they were coming from a man that she finds attractive - super attractive - it was extremely hard to handle.

The rest of their ride was silent but they each had smiles on their faces the entire time, but Devon’s faltered when they finally pulled up to the training ground.

Kiara could tell he meant business now, so she pulled herself together as she followed behind him, trying to match his pace.

“Eliza said to be prepared to fight in anything,” she mumbled as they made it to the fighting ring, skipping the weapons and the sparring clothes.

In response, Devon nodded. “She is right. You’re going to be dressed up that day, so you must be ready to fight in any clothes, and most importantly….you have to be ready to defend yourself immediately.” As soon as the words left his mouth, he was already sending a punch Kiara’s way, and just right before it could comnect, she moved out of his way, causing Devon to smile.

From the moment they walked into the training roo,, she had her guard up because Eliza’s words kept ringing in her head, so she was able to note the exact time Devon formed a fist.

“One day with Eliza, and you are already ready to take me on.”

“Don’t insult me,” she retorted almost immediately and Devon raised his brows, “I am a trained fighter, Alpha Devon. You don't think I was about to lead a pack without proper training, right?”

Amusement and pride flashed in his gaze, and he slowly bobbed his head. “In that case then, let’s spar.”

“What determines the winner?”

“The first to have the other’s back on the ground wins.”

“There is a weight difference between us, Alpha Devon,” she mused as she got into position, “but that has never been a problem.”

Throwing his head back, Devon let out a laugh before he got into position as well.

He was still trying to be nice, and play fair, because he was scared to hurt her, but Kiara didn't hesitate to play dirty and instantly went for his nose.

“You don't play fair.”

“If I do, you'll wipe me out in a second.” She ended her sentence with a kick to his knee, hoping to bring him down and end the fight almost immediately, but he only buckled and was back to his feet immediately.

“You are good, princess-” Kiara smirked, pride soaring in her veins. “- but I am better,” using her very tactics, he kicked her knee and once she was down on her knees, he grabbed her throat and pushed her to the ground, hovering over her as he did while Kiara panted tp catch her breath; she didn’t expect him to use her tactics and it had thrown her off.

“I’ll give it to you though, you know what you are doing. A little brushing up and we are good to go.” He helped her to her feet and Kiara shot him a dirty look.

“This will be the last time you beat me.”

He winked and walked away, “I hope so.”

Fuming, Kiara brushed past him and into the car, but before she could open her door, he beat her to it. “Opening your door is my task, don't try to do my task, Princess,” he whispered, his face a few inches away from hers, and Kiara’s anger was replaced with an inexplicable desire for him to close the gap between them.

“You are moving out of the guest house and into my home,” his words immediately broke her out of her reverie.

“Excuse me?”

“Tonight."

Kiara immediately jumped off her bed and ran out of her room. The scream she heard sounded oddly familiar, almost like her mum. She took the stairs 4 at a time, running to the direction the screaming came from. Once she made it to the dining room, she met eyes with Gaytor and Kristen. Gaytor had a sinister smile on his face, Kristen looked scared, and Kiara's brows scrunched in confusion, but that quickly morphed into fear when she caught her parents sprawled out on the floor, stiff. She staggered backwards in fear, her eyes and mouth wide open as she tried to make sense of the scene. "Mum, Dad..." She called out and tried to make her way over to them but was immediately pulled back by Kristen, whose grip was insanely tight and hard on her, nothing like the hold of a lover and her heart dropped as suspicion clouded her mind. "Did you do this?" Gaytor's smile widened, and he walked over to Alpha Reid's chair at the table and occupied it. "I always knew this chair was comfortable." "Y

Alpha Devon was going through a pile of paperwork in his office when a message came from his Beta through the mind link, "there is a passed out female rogue at the border." He immediately stood up and was walking out the door. "Hold on to her, I am on my way." There's been a record of numerous rogue attacks on his pack recently, and he's been looking to hold and trail one of them down, and now he has been presented with the perfect opportunity he needed. He made it to the border in record time despite the vastness of his pack and the distance that existed from his office to the border. "Where is she?" He asked and the soldiers surrounding her gave way to reveal her sprawled out on the floor and instantly his body froze, and his insides went awry. For a good 10 seconds all he could hear in his head was the repeated chanting of the word "mate." "I plan on taking her to the nunnery." "No one lays a finger on her," he growled out, taking himself and those around by surprise, his wolf inst

Devon didn’t know if he should be amused or worried at her “condition”, she was his mate, but she was also a rogue. His eyes darted over her body, before it rested on her face and he smiled.“Is that all you want?” Surprise flickered through Kiara’s eyes but she immediately covered it up, and gave a nonchalant shrug.“It is all you can offer.”Devon raised a brow, undecided on if he should take offense or not. He tried to say something to her but was cut off by Luka’s message. The playful glint in him vanished and was replaced with fury, and Kiara swallowed and backed away slowly. “I want you to stay right here and do not move till I come back, is that clear?” he spoke with his alpha voice, and ordinarily Kiara would be forced to succumb to it, but her rogue status and her position as his mate lessened the effect of his voice tremendously, but she nodded because she was afraid of the dark look in his eyes.Once he confirmed her agreement, Devon raced out of the hospital. At that point last night, when she kissed him, she thought there was no going back, but fortunately there was.Her cheeks turned very warm, and she pressed her palms against it as the memories of the kiss came flooding back. Devon looked hard, his chiseled jaw line, the piercing look in his eyes, his muscles that were always so prominent no matter what he was wearing. He was the definition of hot and tough, but his lips were the sweetest softest thing she has ever nibbled on. Her stomach did a flip as she remembered just how much she enjoyed it.“Get it together, Kiara.” She slapped her cheeks a number of times to get herself in check, but the smile on her face refused to budge, and she held Kali responsible for it. When he asked Kiara earlier if her first mate was the one behind everything; he hoped it was a lie, it was a form of betrayal he hoped that she did not experience, but the tears that slowly slid down the corners of her eyes gave him his response and tore his heart into bits. He was right, they couldn’t do this, she did not want this, but… she met eyes with him. “What is your reason for not wanting to do this?”She swallowed a lump that formed in her throat as she patiently waited for his response.“You don’t know why we can’t do this?” Kiara pulled her brows together and slowly shook her head
