Alpha Devon was going through a pile of paperwork in his office when a message came from his Beta through the mind link, "there is a passed out female rogue at the border." He immediately stood up and was walking out the door. "Hold on to her, I am on my way." There's been a record of numerous rogue attacks on his pack recently, and he's been looking to hold and trail one of them down, and now he has been presented with the perfect opportunity he needed. He made it to the border in record time despite the vastness of his pack and the distance that existed from his office to the border. "Where is she?" He asked and the soldiers surrounding her gave way to reveal her sprawled out on the floor and instantly his body froze, and his insides went awry. For a good 10 seconds all he could hear in his head was the repeated chanting of the word "mate." "I plan on taking her to the nunnery." "No one lays a finger on her," he growled out, taking himself and those around by surprise, his wolf instincts took over at the sight of his mate. He walked gently to her and he hissed at the sight of the scars all over her body. The fact that she hasn't healed from them yet gave away the fact that whoever was responsible either used an unholy amount of silver on her or Wolfsbane. He shookok his head at the thought- Wolfsbane were not easily acquired because of the threats it poses. He wanted to tear open whomever was responsible for them. Bending down, he scooped her into his arms, and he froze momentarily - he could smell the Wolfsbane on her upclose. Despite everyone's quietness, questions danced at the tip of their tongues. Beta Luka was the only one who picked up courage and walked over to him. "What are you doing? She's a rogue." "She's my mate first." He announced and Luka was stunned into silence for a few seconds, before he gave a slight bow at her direction. "I am going to get the pack's doctors ready to administer treatment." Once he received Devon's nod of approval, he dashed off. "Not a word about this to anyone that is not here. Is that clear?" "Yes Alpha!" The soldiers chorused and he walked away. instead of making use of his speed, he chose to walk normally, afraid of triggering or opening up any of her wounds. After 45 minutes of walking as gently and as quietly as he could while making sure the Wolfsbane doesn't make contact with him, he finally made it to the private area of the hospital and gently laid her on the bed. "I do not want anyone to know about her until I say so, so treat her quietly and gently." The doctor and Devon's friend, Eliza, raised a brow, but detecting the seriousness in his voice and on his face, she bowed. "As you wish, Alpha. Please excuse us." He glanced at Eliza, then back at the rogue girl looking almost lifeless and did not move an inch. "I can not treat her if you're obstructing our path." "Why not?" "Dev... Alpha Devon, I'll need you to give us some privacy so I can treat her properly or do you not want her healed?" His eyes immediately shot daggers at Eliza but then he cleared his throat and shifted to the edge of the room, away from her and the bed. "I believe I have given you enough space to treat her, so treat her." Sighing, in resignation, she got to work and Devon watched everyone of her movement like a hawk observing his prey. He hissed disapprovingly at her whenever his mate showed any signs of discomfort and more than once he tried to stop her from touching her any further. Eventually, Eliza was done with the treatment and she was absolutely relieved to escape the scrutiny of Devon. "She should be awake in a couple of hours. There was Wolfsbane in her bloo, that's why she couldn't heal" she announced. Devon who rushed to her side the second Eliza was done noded and his eyes took all of her in. The rogue scent on her was mild which meant she hasn't been a rogue for a long time. He plopped down beside her, and despite the overwhelming urge to grab her hands and hold it, he resisted out of fear of hurting her anymore. "Are you not going to give her a moment?" Eliza asked as she got ready to leave, and without looking away from her, Devon shook his head. "I'll wait till she's awake." Kiara stirred awake slowly, and it took her eyes a few seconds to adjust to the contrast of the lightining in the room and the darkness outside, and it took her brain an even shorter period of time to register that she was not in her pack, but she was not panicked. She remembered all that happened, and has long accepted her fate. "You are awake," a deep baritone said from beside her and what felt like butterflies erupted in her tummy. Devon slowly walked up to her line of view, and that was when panic set in. The man standing before her was ethereal, but that was not the reason for her panic. It was the familiar feeling of longing lodged at the pit of her belly and the unexpected beatings of her heart. She has felt this feeling before and she knew exactly what it was, the very cause of her misery. Pain shot through her as she forced herself up from the bed, she dragged the IV drip away from her hand and then turned to him with her eyes narrowed in anger. "I know what this is," she said and he raised a brow, amused and worried over her display, "but I have absolutely no interest in playing love with you or anything like that. So let us not waste each other's times and put an end to this, I'm sure you don't want a rogue for a mate anyway." "You don't even know me and you're making a decision for me already?" She made no attempt to respond and just glared at him, and Devon walked over to her, leaving barely any space between them. " First of all, you are my prisoner. You tampered with my territory so you have no right to leave until I say so. Two, you are my mate, and I forbid you from rejecting our bond without any reasonable explanation." " You can't forbid me from rejecting our bond." " As an alpha holding you prisoner and as your mate, I do." Both of Kiara's brows shot up and she cocked her head to the side. " You are the Alpha of this pack?" Devon narrowed his eyes suspiciously and then nodded, " yes, why?" Her eyes slowly travelled down his body, taking alll of him when an idea popped into her head, and the corners of her lips tugged imto a smile and she closed the gap between them, " Very well then, Alpha. i have a condition for you, and if you fulfil it, I will gladly answer all your questions and be your luna." Devon's eyes glimmered and his lips curled up in a smirk at the unexpected turn, but he expected nothing less from his mate. "What is your condition?" "I want your pack."
It’s been a month, a month of living in what feels like a new world. The freedom still came as a shock and most often than not, whenever the Lycans shifted, they still watched their backs.More than half of the arrested ex-alphas had passed away, and the rest of them, including Ketura, were on the brink of death.Everything could categorically be said to be going well, to be good, there was freedom, co-existence, ease, but Devon felt none of that. He wanted to, every time he steps out and sees his people smiling wider than before, he wants to share in it, but the ache in his heart never got lesser. His hands hovered over the door knob and with a deep breath, he twisted and let himself in. As had been his ritual for the past month, he took a seat at the edge of the bed and watched her.He monitored the heaving of her chest, then he grabbed her wrist and counted her pulse quietly. This has been his routine ever since she slumped before she could finish her sentence. Eliza did all she co
The representatives' mouths and that of the pack members hung open as Devon finished telling them the story.“That can’t be true.” One of them whispered, shaking their head adamantly,“I am not going to try and prove anything to you, not with the evidence sitting right in front of you,” He gestured to the alphas, who although were physically present, their minds seemed to be somewhere else. “What I am here to do is to fix everything.”The room immediately grew taut with silence and anticipation. The reps held their breaths as their eyes darted to each other as they tried to guess what it is Devon plans to do. It was unlikely for them to defeat him if he chose to massacre them all to exert revenge for what happened during the war.“No matter how many of you I kill,” he started and they inhaled sharply, “it will not be enough to compensate for what has been done to us, it will never be enough.”“What then…” one of them tried to speak but one look from Devon immediately made him shut his
As he neared the guesthouse, Kaiser began to slow down and the zeal he shared with Devon began to wane. The fear of destroying the shield that has been put in place to protect them suddenly felt like a chain around his limbs.Thoughts and doubts of going and failing began to cloud his judgement. He would put not just himself, but his entire pack and the sacrifices that has been made for years in jeopardy,His run slowly descended into a walk, and he deliberated on taking back his orders and asking everyone to shift back and stay hidden, then he heard the sound of paws hitting the ground in a fierce run and his heart skipped a beat.He could not remember the last time he heard so many paws hitting the ground. Slowly, he turned around and he was hit with the sight of his people running towards him from all directions in their wolf forms, and his breath caught in his throat. He has never seen such a sight before. They were careful not to shift in groups, and even when they did, they neve
Devon and the rest of leadership, including Marcos and Amira sat together, their heads bowed and the exhaustion etched in bones circulated round the room. After Kiara left, Marcos stormed the meeting room with a bunch of warriors that he managed to organize under Ketura’s nose. He had planned it all along, to rescue his brother and his mate no matter what it will take.Luckily, he managed to get Amira and a few others to stop taking the tonic that Ketura was trying to shove down their throats everyday. And that morning, when she least expected it, Marcos knocked her out and had her bound with the help of the hidden witches.Devon was so grateful the second he barged in. After Kiara had left after imprinting that order in his mind, all his attempts to get his legs to move to go after were all futile. It felt like his body had been molded to only obey her command, and the creepy vacant and thoughtless stares of the alphas made things harder. With Marcos’ help, they managed to bundle the
“I fear that if I start asking questions, I will not ask the right ones and you will not give me the right answers,” Kiara started once she and Caelivor were settled in what seems to be his office, “so, I will just make a simple request and hope it gets me what I want.”He smiled softly at her and nodded. “Caelivor, I want you to tell me everything you know about me and the people currently in your courtyard.”Taking a deep breath, Caelivor stared at his hands for a whole minute, then he looked up. “The moon goddess is a very loving and fair god. I have heard tales about the existence of other gods but I think, no, I know the moon goddess is a special one.”“What has that got to do with anything?”“During the war, there was no hope of it stopping anytime soon and with both sides suffering casualties, the moon goddess decided to intervene and that was the first time she allowed herself to be born as one of us. She immersed half of herself into the child in a luna’s womb, and at 18, th
Kiara felt like her heart was being ripped out of her chest and no matter how hard she cried, there seemed to be no improvement on the sadness swallowing her up. It felt like the sadness and troubles of the world rested on her shoulders and was pressing her down to the earth.Unable to keep up with the growing sadness, she felt her vision blur and with all her attempts to keep up, she found herself succumbing to the weight of it and soon enough, she passed out.The next time she opened her eyes, the gaping heavy hole that seemed to grow larger in her heart remained there but this time around, the tears were not forming nor falling and she managed to get off the floor and actually look around the room.It was way bigger than she expected and everything in there was either gold or wood, there was no in-between. The source of lighting was the numerous candles that were lit and positioned at different angles of the room, and the bed that adorned the center of the room was so high and so b
