Chapter 14

MEGAN’S POV

I sat on the couch with my laptop placed on my lap, and my eyes fixed on the screen of the computer.

The creaking sound of the door brought my attention to the entrance. Nathan walked in and handed an iPad to me. Reluctantly, I took the iPad from him and stared at the screen with tilted eyes.

“Got some interesting news for you. Have you checked the account you used before your divorce?” He inquired, and I shook my head, with my eyes still glued on the iPad.

He snorted and continued. “Looks like your ex-husband has been making deposits.”

My fist clenched in a fit of rage. “What?”

“I guess he must really think you’re broke and living on the streets. He can’t let go, can he?” Nathan laughed dryly as I scrolled through the iPad with a heavy sigh.

I scoffed. “Not my problem. Just transfer all of it back to him.”

“Ah, come on. Think of it as a tax for all your emotional damages.” Nate countered, and I heaved a sigh. Of course I know how persistent Nate can be, so I only shrugged it off. “Just donate it to charity. Just do whatever you want with it. I don’t want a cent from him.”

He smiled calmly and then reached for a present box in his pocket. “Uncle wanted you to have this.” He handed the gift box to me, and I hesitantly took it and opened it. Inside the box was the Moon Royal Pack’s crest.

Memories came rushing back into my head. That fateful day, I had packed up my clothes in a box and dragged the box with me like my life depended on it.

My father, the Alpha King, stood at the entrance of the royal castle with his eyes gleaming with rage and disappointment.

“Megan, how could you throw away your inheritance, your bloodline, just to be with that Austin, who doesn’t deserve your love?” My father had yelled at me with anger in his voice.

However, I was determined with my fingers wrapped around the luggage box handle. “Dad, my mind is made up. I give up everything for him. All I want is to be with him, and no one can stop me, not even my title as the Moon Heiress. I am willing to live as a wolfless, helpless omega just to be with him.”

“You…” My father pointed at me, grudgingly, but paused and took a deep breath. “Fine. Since you’re bent on choosing that man over your family and your supernatural powers, then so be it.”

Nathan, who stood behind him, shook his head in disapproval, trying to get my father to change his mind. “Uncle, please don’t let her leave.” He mumbled sadly.

“You’ll have to conceal your powers by taking the power-detaining potion.” My father coldly uttered, but I showed no sign of remorse.

“I accept.” I snapped, and Nathan grabbed my wrist, shaking his head in a bid to discourage me. “Meg, don’t.” He whispered, but I snatched my hand from him.

“What are we waiting for? Someone fetch the priestess.” I summoned courage and screamed out.

A few minutes later, the Pack’s priestess was summoned, and she came. Standing in between my angry father and love-struck me, she stretched out the potion to me. Despite knowing how painful it would be if I took the potion, I readily reached for the potion. Before anyone could utter a word, I gulped down the entire contents of the bottle.

The disappointment in my father’s eyes was horrible. Summoning courage, I took off the Pack’s crest that was pinned to my shirt and threw it on Nathan, who gasped in disbelief and shock.

Nathan hurriedly picked it up as he gave me a shocking glare, but that was the least I cared about. My chest tightened, and my veins hurt like hell, but that didn’t stop me. I dragged my box, and the second I stepped my feet out of the gate, I felt my powers sealed instantly. Even a mere human became stronger than I was.

Tears blurred my vision as I stared at the crest in my palms. Instantly, I blinked back the tears.

“There’s no need to be sad, cousin. It’s your big night tonight. Your official debut as the next Alpha King and the supreme Moon Heiress. Don’t soil your pretty face with tears.” He patted my shoulder tenderly. “You can put that on. Tag it to your shirt.”

I was about to attach the tag to my shirt when I paused. “Oh, no! Wait, I need to supervise the worksite this afternoon. The East Wood Tower is almost done. I can’t wait to launch my amazing project and to leave everyone in awe. Please hold onto this for me for a while.” I stretched the crest to him.

Grudgingly, he took the crest and then smiled softly. “I know you can’t give out your identity before your party.”

With that, I pinned the crest to his suit and mouthed. “Thank you.”

Later that night, I drove to the event in my Lamborghini, but I finished late at the site, so I was still in my worksite jacket as I headed straight to the event venue.

However, because I was poorly dressed, the guards at the entrance stopped me.

“Ma’am, this is an exclusive event. No invite, no entry.” He strictly uttered.

That was when it occurred to me that I had left behind my invitation card at home. I took a deep sigh. “I’m part of the event. I just forgot my invitation.”

Having said that, I tried to walk in, but the man bluntly refused, standing in my way. I tripped, and just when I thought I’d fall, someone caught me by my waist. When I raised my head to see who it was, to my utmost surprise, it was Alpha Austin.

He stared directly into my eyes, and I shook with whatever feeling I couldn’t understand. Immediately, I pushed him away and nervously tucked my hair behind my ears.

“Where’s Lucien? What are you doing here?” He inquired anxiously.

That was when my eyes caught the female figure standing beside him with her hands wrapped around his arm—more like an arm candy. Of course, it was none other than Kayla.

“Did you get dumped? No wonder why you look like you just crawled out of a dumpster.” She laughed mockingly.

With absolute disgust, I snapped at her. “Shut up.”

“A whore raising a bastard must be exhausting. What are you doing here?” She rolled her eyes, but I flared up and landed a resounding slap on her cheek, and she staggered.
