Lucian’s POV

I watched as the strange lady kneeling before me was hauled up from the floor by two guards and dragged to the exit.

She didn't pose any form of resistance as they pulled her along, but just as I was about to avert my eyes from her, she suddenly stopped, causing my brows to furrow in confusion.

"I would prefer to be executed tonight. Besides, I have nothing else to live for," she stated emotionlessly, with a hint of stubbornness in her tone.

Her words sliced through the heavy silence in the hall like a blade and I felt something ignite inside of me. My eyes roamed her fragile frame as I tried to decipher where this boldness came from.

Usually, other prisoners will fall to their knees and begin to plead for mercy on hearing my orders. They would beg to be spared while confessing their crimes or revealing the identity of those they work for, but her case was different, she was strange.

Her words made me feel uneasy and the fact that she was indifferent about being executed piqued my interest. Does she even realize the weight of her request?

When she was brought in here, she looked scared and confused but now that had dissipated and was now replaced with a detached, tired look. She had accepted her fate without a second thought and I couldn't help but wonder why she was so eager to end her life.

The guards, who were equally stunned by her outburst and had released her for a split second, immediately grabbed her again, intending to drag her away as I had instructed, but I raised my hand, causing them to halt on the spot.

The woman turned around immediately, her bright blue eyes lifeless and fearless as she stared directly at me. I cocked my head to the side, curiosity filling me.

Who was this woman and what was her mission here? Why was she ready to die for the one that sent her?

Slowly, I stood up from my seat and walked stealthily towards her, my eyes trained on her. She lowered her gaze as I got closer. The guards stepped away immediately and a look of confusion crossed the lady's face at how close I was standing before her.

Her eyes darted around the room frantically before she hung her head low, squeezing her eyes shut in nervousness. I placed my finger on her chin and roughly lifted her face to meet mine.

"Look at me," I ordered in a stern voice. Slowly, she carefully squinted her eyes open, her gaze meeting mine as I stared intently at her. I could not miss the look of defiance in her orbs, but at the same time, they held weariness and helplessness.

As we gazed at each other I couldn't help but wonder why her life meant nothing to her and why she was ready to give it up easily.

I studied her features closely, she was indeed beautiful with eyes like the vast ocean hidden beneath her long dark lashes and lips red and plump as a juicy fruit. I swallowed hard as my eyes refused to leave her lips. My wolf stirred in my head, growling with want as he inhaled her scent.

'I want her," his hoarse voice sounded at the back of my mind and I was instantly snapped back to reality. I wondered what it was about her that had me drawn to her, but one thing was certain: whatever it might be was forbidden, and I was going to kill it before it sprouted.

'Let's keep her,’ my wolf added and a frown etched on my features at his words.

'Dumbass, she's not innocent,' I snapped and shut him out immediately as I was not interested in whatever plans or ideas he might have regarding this woman.

Her eyes held no fear as she stared back at me and that seemed to excite me. A cynical smile tugged at my lips at her boldness.

"What do you think you're doing?" I asked coldly. Her brows furrowed slightly in confusion. "Do you think you can walk away from this by asking to be killed? Are you seeking an escape from your crimes through death? You think you will find peace when you die?"

For a moment, a look of defeat crossed her eyes but she quickly masked it, pursing her lips stubbornly, as she stared back at me in silence.

The taunting smirk was still on my face as I studied her reaction. She might be a strong, but I knew

it would not be long before she reached her breaking point and her resolve cracked.

Her eyes turned misty with sadness and I felt something twitch inside of me. A strange emotion settled in the pit of my stomach as I peered into her eyes.

Pity.

Something I hadn't felt in ages, I felt pity for this strange lady and I hated it. Without warning, I let go of her chin aggressively, causing her to stagger backward.

One of the guards grabbed her before she fell and steadied her on her feet.

"Stupid lowlife," I spat with venom, angered by the emotion she stirred inside me. How dare she appear pathetic?

"You trespassed into my land, refused to confess and apologize for your actions, yet you stand before me and speak of death so easily, wanting me to bestow such a gift on you.”

Anger surged through me. "That's not happening. Prepare yourself to live longer in agony and suffering under my roof. I will make you miserable, you will live as though you were a dead person.”

With that, I stepped away and dismissed the guards with a small nod. "Get her away from my sight. Lock her back up in the cell and make sure no living thing is in there with her, just her. See to it that no harm comes to her until I say otherwise."

"Yes, Your Highness," The guards chorused and grabbed her again but she remained rooted to the ground, refusing to comply.

"Come on," one of the guards growled, pulling her roughly. But she fought against him, lifting her gaze to mine.

With a voice raw with desperation, she yelled, her words slicing through the air. "Spare me your mercy and get on with whatever plans you have, I am not afraid!"

Her voice dripped with bitterness and I felt the muscles in my jaw tighten in anger. My fist clenched in rage, fighting the urge to grab her and snap her neck.

  • His Revenge Pawn   Chapter 083

Lucian's POV "This looks so bad," I commented, my face scrunched in distaste as I stared at the injuries of some of the warriors who were injured at the attack. It’s been days after the war but they couldn’t heal themselves and their injuries weren’t healing on their own. "It's poison, Alpha. The last time I saw something as strange as this was the night you returned from Moonblood pack and passed out from the injury you sustained,” The doctor began to explain, “The wounds on the guards are deep and they are healing slowly. For wolves like us, this isn't normal.”I placed a hand on my chin in thought and recalled that I was stabbed with a strange weapon that night of the attack when I was returning from Moonblood Pack, after my father's memorial. It then dawned on me that the weapons Damon's warriors used against us were the exact same ones. I clenched my fist angrily. “That rascal," I growled through clenched jaws and turned to the doctor. "Something can be done to save them, righ

  • His Revenge Pawn   Chapter 082

Damon's POV Two days have gone by since the war against Lucian happened. Lucian was still alive, walking freely and there was chaos within my council. The councilmen and my beta blamed me for what happened; for acting like a weakling and not leading the war like I should have. From their insinuations, I could tell they were beginning to feel that I wasn't fit to be the Alpha and were doubting my abilities. This was the first time something like this had happened, the first time the pack had gone against an opponent and lost to him. Lucian wasn’t like my previous opponents, he didn’t have the warriors or the strength to pull off such victory but somehow, he still managed to defeat the mighty moon-blood pack. No matter how hard I tried to find the loophole in my plans, I couldn’t come up with any.My mother had said she was going to handle everything, but I was running out of time and it didn't seem like she had a concrete plan on what to do.I was in my study, pacing about as I thoug

Melody's POV I sat on the bare prison floor, reminiscing about my life with tears cascading down my cheeks. I was sad and heartbroken with everything that was happening. With every passing day, I regretted and cursed the day I met Agath. It was now clear as day to me that the Alpha didn't want me anymore, he wasn't even interested in my offer to help him fight against Damon anymore which was the reason he had kept me here in the first place. I had hoped I stood a chance with him after the kiss we shared. The kiss that was permanently engraved in my memory. Since he had initiated the kiss, I had thought he would soften up to me and punish Agath for lying against me, but what I got was the reverse and a harsher treatment from him. There was no passing day that I did not think about that day, that kiss had ignited something in me, something I hadn’t even felt with Damon, and even Erylis could testify to it. I have longed for him and yearned to have his lips on mine again ever since

  • His Revenge Pawn   Chapter 80

LUCIAN'S POV We got to the pack and immediately the injured warriors were taken to the pack clinic alongside the young man from Damon's pack who led the war. "Treat him with the best resources but not enough for him to heal entirely, I want him alive," I told the Doctor as they dropped the man who was wincing in pain. "Yes, Alpha." I stood around, watching the doctor tend to his wounds gently. Slowly, the color of his skin returned and he looked much better than he was when we brought him in. "He's stable now, Alpha, I will go check on the other patients," Doctor Allen excused himself with a bow and left the room. The young man on seeing that he was alone in the room with me and Kade let out a loud sigh as he locked gaze with me. It was evident that he wasn’t scared of us. I walked towards him with Kade at my side, keeping my eyes trained on him."Where's Damon?" I demanded coldly. His eyes darted between mine and Kade's, as he shook his head. "I don't know," he responded, and

Damon's POV "Why is it taking so long for them to return? It's been eight hours," Alonso said worriedly as he paced about the room with his right hand on his chin. We were currently in the meeting room, awaiting the warriors we had sent after Lucian to return. Judging from the number that was sent to attack Lucian in his hideout, I was convinced that everything would turn out well. Besides, he was oblivious to the arrangements we've made regarding the war. But the warriors had not returned. It was almost nightfall, and I was starting to get worried, but I didn't show it and remained calmly sitting in my seat, gazing at the council members. At first, the council members were displeased when they found out that I wasn't going to war with the rest of the soldiers as that was the ideal thing to do. Alonso was strongly against my orders for his son, Eric, to take charge of the war. The rest of the councilmen saw his point and began insisting I join them in war. But I reminded them that

  • His Revenge Pawn   Chapter 078

Lucian's POV I opened my mouth to speak but didn't even know what to tell Kade. He stared at me expectantly, waiting for me to give a reply to his question but how do I explain to him that I have been biased in my judgment? That my judgment had been clouded by my desire for revenge against Damon and I sent the pregnant woman to jail over the evil of another?I averted my gaze from Kade, unable to return his piercing stare. "She's still in the dungeon," I muttered without gazing at him at him, my voice barely above a whisper, "I sent her there when I found poison in her possession.”"Poison?" Kade exclaimed in surprise, his brows furrowed in disbelief."What exactly happened in my absence? And how did you confirm it was poison?” I went ahead to explain all the events that happened between the pregnant woman and Agath, the spy maid Damon had sent to my pack, including how I had executed her and sent her remains to Damon, prompting the war. "I'm not sure what to do with her," I continu
