Damon’s POV
My eyes widened in fear as Melody raised the knife whose blade was glistening with my blood in the air. I could feel the blood drain from my face in horror as I looked down my chest to see the injury she had already inflicted on me. Before I could tell what was going to happen next, she plunged the blade deep into my chest again for the second time, on the same spot. I tried to scream but the sound died in my throat before I could let it out. I could not even move my arms, it felt like they were paralyzed as I fell helplessly on the cold floor in the pool of my blood. I peered into Melody’s cold and expressionless face, her dark eyes were gazing intently into mine as she slowly twisted the knife she buried in my chest. The pain shot up my spine and I winced loudly, tears rolling down my eyes as I stared at her pleadingly. Her eyes held no pity as she yanked the knife out of my chest forcefully, her breathing ragged and her face filled with rage. The knife blade glinted as she raised it in the air and was about to plunge it into me for the third time when a voice caused her to halt. “How foolish you are, Kieran!” the voice resonated. I could immediately tell who it belonged to from the tone. It was the seer that had prophesied about my future! But how was she here? “I warned you, didn't I? Yet, you decided not to heed my advice and foolishly allowed yourself to be deceived! Now, meet your doom. No one disobeys my orders and goes without punishment, no one!” I opened my mouth but before I could speak, the seer vanished and Melody lunged at me with a scream but I jerked awake with a strangled gasp before her knife dug into me again. My heart hammered against my chest in trepidation as my eyes darted around the space in fear. I sat upright in bed, drenched in sweat. My breathing hoarse and labored as my eyes roamed the dark room. Instinctively, my hand flew to my chest, frantically patting the spot where Melody’s blade had pierced me but there was nothing there. There was no sign of blood on my chest or the bed. I was alive and in my room not lying in the pool of my blood. My lips parted and I released a shaky breath, the gory scene swirling through my mind. “It was just a dream,” I tried to remind myself as I ran my fingers through my golden locks, trying to calm my racing heart. Pushing the cover off my body, I swung my legs over the bed and stood up on shaky feet but I was still filled with dread. I needed to move, to walk, run, anything to shake off the lingering terror of this haunting dream. My legs wobbled slightly as I began to move but soon got stabilized. My mind raced as the words of the seer flooded my thoughts. “What did she mean by that? Why did she say I ignored her warning?” I muttered, feeling disturbed by the seer's threat. I followed every word; I chose Amelia because she has the crescent mark. The mark was supposed to be the sign that she was my destined mate, the one who would bear my heir. She had it all, so what else could I have done wrong? Did I misinterpret something important or could I have missed a sign? I recalled the enraged look in Melody’s cold eyes and my breath hitched as panic slowly filled me. The dream felt real, too vivid. Was this a sign from the moon goddess that she was planning to kill me? My eyes darkened and I became enraged at the fact that she even dared to challenge me in my dream. The image of how vulnerable I looked before her as she stabbed my chest repeatedly flashed through my head and I smacked my hand angrily against the bedside table. How dare she? The sound echoed in the dark room causing Selene to stir in her sleep. “Baby?” Amelia’s sleepy voice called as she tried to stand up. “Why are you up?” She asked, rubbing her sleepy eyes. My shoulder slumped as I walked towards her. Her eyes watched me in concern as I crouched down and placed a soft kiss on her forehead while rubbing her belly. “It's nothing, my love, I just had a terrible dream,” I replied as I massaged her shoulders gently. “What dream? Tell me about it, Kieran,” she urged me. I shook my head, a small smile playing on my lips. “It's nothing to bother yourself about, it's just a dream. Go back to sleep,” I told her. She shook her head stubbornly, insisting. “I want to know. You can tell me anything, Damon. what dream made you so agitated? You look worried,” she pestered, cleaning off the sweat on my forehead. I sighed heavily. “It's Melody .” Her brows shot up. “What about her?” “For some reason, I cannot comprehend, she stabbed me viciously in the chest.” “What!” She gasped as fear crossed her eyes at my revelation. She looked down at my chest in worry, and seeing that I was unharmed, she let out a sigh. A smile stretched on her lips as she stroked my hair soothingly. “That would never happen, Melody wouldn't dare harm you.” “No!” I retorted and stood erect, “I can't trust her, Amelia, this might be a sign. What if she goes on to plot with my enemies to bring me down? She knows too much about the pack for me to just let this warning slide like that. It would be a grave mistake on my part if I don't act on this and I'm not ready to risk it. Guards!” I roared in fury. “Baby, there's nothing to be afraid of, believe me when I say Melody has nothing on you,” Selene said reassuringly as she climbed out of bed and walked over to me. The door soon opened and two guards walked in. “Alpha,” they bowed in respect. “Go get Melody now and bring her to the meeting hall.” “Yes, Alpha,” they chorused and hurried out of the room. Amelia stroked my arm, “I’m telling you..” I cut her off by wrapping my arms around her in a hug. “Relax princess, I will sort everything out.” She wanted to speak again, but the door opened, and the guards fell on their knees before me. “We couldn't find her,” one of them reported, and my forehead creased. “What do you mean you couldn't find her? Did you search for her anywhere else apart from her room?” “We searched everywhere, Alpha, she's gone. Her things are not in the room too.” “What!” I exclaimed in shock as my eyes fell on Selene who looked unfazed as she went to sit on the bed, I wasn't expecting Melody to leave this fast after I had rejected her, didn't she say that she loved me? How could she leave the moment I dismissed her? She should have stayed longer and pleaded more for me to accept her back. I pinched the bridge of my nose and let out a frustrated sigh before turning to the guards whose heads were still hung low. I was about to dismiss them when I felt Amelia’s arms around me. She stood on her tiptoes as she placed a kiss on my lips before resting her head on my chest. I stroked her hair lovingly, waiting patiently for what she had to say. “I think she's long gone by now,” she muttered and looked up at me from my chest. “Melody,” she mentioned and returned to the position she was in. “She's probably at her lover's pack now, the one she has been having a secret affair with.” My brows furrowed in confusion as I pulled out of the hug and held her by the shoulder, “Why did you say that?” “I… I had a conversation with her before she left, she mentioned that she was going to see a dear friend and would be spending some good time with him.” I couldn't contain my rage at the information I just received, that slut! I released my hold on Amelia and balled my hands in a fist as I turned to the guards, my eyes red with fury and my anger palpable. “Listen up,” I said, my voice low and dangerous, my gaze murderous and cold. “Find Melody and bring her back to this pack. I do not care how you do it but do not return to this pack unless you have her, whether dead or alive!”Lucian's POV I stormed out of the room in rage. I couldn't believe that lady had tried to play on my intelligence despite trying to be lenient with her. She had the temerity to claim she was Damon’s mate, spewing rubbish and lies! I have known Damon for years and studied him inside and out. There was no way he would have ever let her leave his pack alive even if she was just his bed warmer. That was impossible! Damon has never been one to let go of his toys so easily. That woman was lying and if at all she was being honest, the only truth would be that she indeed came from the Moonblood Pack. There was no other explanation as to how she ended up here in my pack, it was obvious that she was a spy that was planted here by Damon himself to feed him information about my pack. How did he find out about the pack? Does he know that I am alive? Kade's hurried footsteps interrupted my thoughts as he finally caught up with me. "Lucian, what was that?" Kade asked, with a raised brow.
Melody’s POV The faint sound of the beeping monitor increased as my eyelids gradually fluttered open and I regained consciousness. My vision was blurry and unfocused causing me to blink repeatedly to clear the fog. It felt like I had just resurrected from a deep sleep that was an eternity long. Slowly, I turned my head in the direction of the sound of the beeping monitor, but my eyes landed on a figure wearing a white coat instead. Where was I? What is this place? I tried to move but my body refused to cooperate. It felt like a humongous size of bricks were placed on every joint of my body, making it impossible for me to move a muscle. A painful groan escaped my lips, and the man, on noticing my discomfort, immediately turned towards me. He hovered over me in concern and carefully examined my stomach while I watched on in confusion. “Miss, please try not to move too much," he said calmly, straightening his spine. "You are not yet fully out of the critical condition you were i
Lucian’s POV Mercy?I couldn't believe this woman had mistaken my orders for mercy. My rule was ruthless, why does she regard the punishment I gave her as me being merciful? I had never seen a prisoner like her, one who was ready to give up her life without struggle. I sensed something must have happened to make her unwilling to live. It's not like I cared about her or whatever she might have passed through, I was more interested in knowing why she was here and who sent her. For being able to evoke such emotions no one has been able to in years, I knew that her presence in my territory screamed danger and I couldn't wait to do away with her after getting the information I desire to hear."Get her out of here," I sneered dangerously and she was finally dragged out of the room. "Call Kade into my office," I told the guard beside me as I made my way out of the room.Kade was the second in command in the pack, my closest friend and advisor. When I was sentenced to death by the council
Lucian’s POV I watched as the strange lady kneeling before me was hauled up from the floor by two guards and dragged to the exit. She didn't pose any form of resistance as they pulled her along, but just as I was about to avert my eyes from her, she suddenly stopped, causing my brows to furrow in confusion."I would prefer to be executed tonight. Besides, I have nothing else to live for," she stated emotionlessly, with a hint of stubbornness in her tone. Her words sliced through the heavy silence in the hall like a blade and I felt something ignite inside of me. My eyes roamed her fragile frame as I tried to decipher where this boldness came from.Usually, other prisoners will fall to their knees and begin to plead for mercy on hearing my orders. They would beg to be spared while confessing their crimes or revealing the identity of those they work for, but her case was different, she was strange. Her words made me feel uneasy and the fact that she was indifferent about being execute

Melody’s POV I was expecting to open my eyes and find myself still sprawled on the floor in the forest but when I opened them, I was met with darkness."Was it night already?" I mumbled under my breath, feeling my heart race in anxiety. My throat felt parched like I hadn't had a drop of water in ages.My eyes wandered to my side and fell on a small window that was illuminating the space.I don't remember crawling into any room, so where was I?I slowly sat up from the floor, confusion etched on my features. My eyes danced across the dimly lit, unfamiliar space and my forehead creased in worry. What happened and where was I?I felt a sharp pain in my lower abdomen and crouched down as the pain shot up my spine. A wince escaped my lips as I held tightly to my stomach.I stared down at my legs and fear engulfed me at the sight of the dried blood between them. I gulped down nothing as I slowly raised my gown, tracing where the blood had come from.Tears clouded my eyes as an exasperated
