LOGINMelody’s POV
I was expecting to open my eyes and find myself still sprawled on the floor in the forest but when I opened them, I was met with darkness. "Was it night already?" I mumbled under my breath, feeling my heart race in anxiety. My throat felt parched like I hadn't had a drop of water in ages. My eyes wandered to my side and fell on a small window that was illuminating the space. I don't remember crawling into any room, so where was I? I slowly sat up from the floor, confusion etched on my features. My eyes danced across the dimly lit, unfamiliar space and my forehead creased in worry. What happened and where was I? I felt a sharp pain in my lower abdomen and crouched down as the pain shot up my spine. A wince escaped my lips as I held tightly to my stomach. I stared down at my legs and fear engulfed me at the sight of the dried blood between them. I gulped down nothing as I slowly raised my gown, tracing where the blood had come from. Tears clouded my eyes as an exasperated gasp left my lips when I realized there was a possibility that I might have lost my baby. But how did it happen? I remember I had felt severe pain while I was in the forest but can't seem to fathom what must have caused the pain. "It's you,” I suddenly heard a voice whisper beside me and almost jumped out of my skin. My eyes settled on an old woman, a few feet beside me. She wore a fading brown dress and held a weird looking stick. Her cheeks were sunken like she had not had anything to eat in years. I glanced up at her unkempt hair and shuddered in disgust. She stared down at me with a mix of curiosity and excitement in her eyes. What a creep! I scooted away from her but she came closer, her eyes gleaming with joy. I kept moving away from her and didn't realize when I reached the wall. A lopsided smile crossed her lips as she reached for me and grabbed me by my arm. Fear filled my body as she gazed directly into my eyes and began stroking my hair with her other arm. I whimpered in fear as I shook my head, trying to escape her grip but she didn't let go. Instead, she threw her head backward and let out a hearty laughter, causing cold chills to run down my spine. She stared down at me again, eyes twinkling with excitement. "I'm glad you're finally here," she uttered as she ran her finger on my chin. "All these years, I have been waiting for you, Child, I stayed alive to witness this moment. The day you will return to where you belong. Finally, the time is here" she beamed and slowly crouched to my level. It was now quite obvious that this strange woman was not okay in the head. I tried to free my hand from her grip but she held on firmly. Her actions were beginning to tick me off. "Let me go!" I screamed at her but she didn't budge and just kept staring at me. "Can't you hear me? I said let me go!" "It’s a good thing the child in your belly is gone," she said, pointing to my belly and I froze. "It would have only brought you bigger problems and hindered you from doing what you need to do.” I stared at her in shock, using my free arm to shield my belly. Who was she and how did she know I was pregnant? I was about to question her when I heard the door opening. The old hag instantly released me and hurried off to sit in her position. I was confused about what was going on. A lot of questions swirled in my head as I watched two men, dressed in uniforms approach me. I could instantly tell they were guards of another pack and without saying a word, they hauled me up from the floor. I allowed them without struggling as I didn't have any strength left in me. The guards began to pull me towards the door and I followed without complaints, wondering where they were taking me to. "Make sure you stay alive at all costs! Do not let the rogue alpha kill you," I heard the old woman scream behind me and sighed heavily, her request was the least of my worries at this moment. I was pulled into the hallway by the guards who hadn't spoken a word to me. I wondered if today was going to be my last day on earth. We finally came to a halt in front of a huge door and one of the guards on standby pushed the door open. I was thrown to the floor as soon as we entered the room and bruised my knees in the process. I didn't have the luxury to tend to my injured knees or study the space I was in as I was compelled to remain on all fours. The door opened again and I heard someone enter the room. This mysterious person possessed an aura so powerful that I felt chills run down my spine as he came closer to me. The guards stepped away and bowed respectfully, giving him space to sit in front of me. I felt overpowered by his presence and the need to show him my neck in a bid to express my submission overwhelmed me but I fought off the urge and remained still, staring at his feet which was the only part of his body that was visible to me. I wondered who he was and what he wanted with me. Curiosity got the best of me and I slowly raised my head to peer at this mysterious person. I was captivated by his emerald green eyes and gasped slightly, my mouth parted in shock as I gazed at his handsome features but everything faded as a sense of recognition washed over me. He was the Alpha rogue. I swallowed hard at the realization because I knew I had committed a great crime by trespassing into his territory and I knew I would not be making it out alive. My gaze remained fixed on him, taking in his features until a hard blow from one of the guards reminded me of my position. I immediately lowered my head, my heart racing in my chest. "Who are you and what are you doing in my territory?" He finally spoke up and I held my breath. He was eloquent, his voice sounded powerful and firm. I kept mute, unable to reply to his questions. I have heard news about the alpha rogue and how notorious he was. How do I explain to him that I was lost and didn't mean any harm? "You are a spy, aren't you? What I am interested in knowing is why you are here and who sent you?” his voice came up again and as if my eyes had a mind of their own, they traveled up to meet his once again. I felt my wolf going crazy inside of me, she pranced about, trying to communicate with me but I wouldn't let her and shut her down. I could not afford to do anything that I would regret. His eyes held emotions I couldn't fathom as we gazed at each other. They were soft, just as if he yearned for me or so my mind told me. I felt like going to him, to hold his hands in mine. The thought made me swallow hard and I lowered my eyes once more. Silence ensued in the hall for a few minutes before he spoke up again. "You have limited time. If you don't speak up and tell me who ordered you to come spy on me, you will be executed" he said with a tone of finality and snapped his finger at the guard. "Take her away" The guards instantly swung into action and pulled me up from the floor roughly. They began to drag me towards the door but before we got to the exit, I halted stubbornly. Without turning to look at the Alpha rogue, I spoke up confidently so that he heard me clearly. "I would prefer to be executed tonight. Besides, I have nothing else to live for."Lucian's POV "Think about it, Lucian, we will let you choose amongst the packs we conquered, the one you would want to rule over," Ethan, one of the councilmen, tried to reason with me. "This is a golden opportunity for you, your crimes would be forgiven like they were never committed. We will accept you back into the pack and you will no longer be a rogue," he added and I could not help the menacing laughter that erupted from my throat. "It's crazy how you all imagine me as a fool who will jump at your offer without second thoughts. Do I look caged to you?" I asked with my arms spread apart, "I'm a free man and I don't need authentication from any of you. Give me what I have requested and I will fulfill my end of the bargain." "Come on, don't be so stubborn, Lucian. Your request is outrageous and..." "Three," Diane cut the councilman off, raising two of her fingers in the air, "we'll make it two. Three packs, you can be in charge of them.”The room fell silent as everyone stared
Kade's POV I made my way outside the mansion to catch some air since I was m beginning to feel suffocated from thinking too much. I tried to remain strong and focus on what had brought us here, but meeting her changed everything; now it felt like I was sinking in despair. A sigh escaped my lips as I shook my head violently, trying to get the disturbing thoughts out of my head but it wasn't working. My wolf had gone quiet ever since the realization that our mate belonged to another dawned on him. This came as a surprise to us, we weren't expecting to meet our mate just yet and in Damon's pack of all places. I remembered the look of regret in her eyes when Damon announced she was his mate and how she had run off without a single word. I remembered how her long hair bounced freely with every stride as she hurried away from the meeting room. A lot of questions swirled through my mind. I wondered why she didn't bother to speak and just left but reminded myself that she was probably tryi
Kade's POV "So you want the pack in exchange for the prisoner?" I heard Damon's mother ask Lucian but her words barely registered in my head. Someone else had caught my attention and I froze in surprise when our eyes met. Dark long hair and eyes like the vast oceans. She held onto the tray of drinks tightly, her mouth slightly open. My wolf howled excitedly in my head. 'She's the one we've been waiting for' he said, prancing about in happiness. Before I could stop myself, the word formed in my mouth and rolled out of my tongue, "Mate.”She felt the connection too, her eyes turned misty and her lips stretched into a small smile. After years of waiting, I never imagined I would find her here of all places. She stood at the doorway, radiant, her eyes gleaming with excitement. I guess I wasn’t the only one thrilled by this moment.Slowly, I rose from my seat, my gaze locked onto her face. I was about to move, to close the space between us and take her into my arms, when Damon’s voice
Damon's POV Everything had been set up for the meeting today with Lucian. The councilmen whom my mother had single-handedly selected to be in attendance for the meeting were already in the hall awaiting Lucian's arrival. My mother had placed herself in charge of putting everything in place for the meeting, even the servants that would be serving us were chosen by her. She kept insisting that she wanted everything to be perfect, so we don’t have regrets later on. My mother had tested the potency of the poison we prepared for Lucian on a guard and I was pleased with the result. The effect of the poison wasn’t so quick but it was pretty deadly.A satisfied grin stretched on my face as I recalled how the guard had writhed on the floor in pain after he was forced to take the poison. I couldn't help but imagine Lucian in that state. I walked to the mirror and gave my outfit a quick once-over. I had picked out a new suit for the occasion, my enemy was dying today, and I wanted to look my
Lucian's POV "This looks so bad," I commented, my face scrunched in distaste as I stared at the injuries of some of the warriors who were injured at the attack. It’s been days after the war but they couldn’t heal themselves and their injuries weren’t healing on their own. "It's poison, Alpha. The last time I saw something as strange as this was the night you returned from Moonblood pack and passed out from the injury you sustained,” The doctor began to explain, “The wounds on the guards are deep and they are healing slowly. For wolves like us, this isn't normal.”I placed a hand on my chin in thought and recalled that I was stabbed with a strange weapon that night of the attack when I was returning from Moonblood Pack, after my father's memorial. It then dawned on me that the weapons Damon's warriors used against us were the exact same ones. I clenched my fist angrily. “That rascal," I growled through clenched jaws and turned to the doctor. "Something can be done to save them, righ
Damon's POV Two days have gone by since the war against Lucian happened. Lucian was still alive, walking freely and there was chaos within my council. The councilmen and my beta blamed me for what happened; for acting like a weakling and not leading the war like I should have. From their insinuations, I could tell they were beginning to feel that I wasn't fit to be the Alpha and were doubting my abilities. This was the first time something like this had happened, the first time the pack had gone against an opponent and lost to him. Lucian wasn’t like my previous opponents, he didn’t have the warriors or the strength to pull off such victory but somehow, he still managed to defeat the mighty moon-blood pack. No matter how hard I tried to find the loophole in my plans, I couldn’t come up with any.My mother had said she was going to handle everything, but I was running out of time and it didn't seem like she had a concrete plan on what to do.I was in my study, pacing about as I thoug
