Chapter Four

Stella Newton

My palms were sweaty as I stood outside of the large building. D&A Enterprises. I slowly walked up the steps going inside the high class building. Everyone seemed so professional and everything seemed to be in their right places. I walked up to a lady at the desk who was talking on the phone.

"Hello, how may I help you?, she asked as she place the phone back where it belong.

" I'm here for an interview with Mrs Valerio? "

"Oh ,go to the second floor and good luck, you're gonna need it".

I forced a smile as I went to the elevator. A lady walked in with me and said a good morning as I returned it. She was dressed inappropriately for business in her midthigh skirt and way too much makeup. I didn't say anything thou.

The elevator stopped and we both got out. I wasn't surprised to see alot of people dressed in their best as they waited for their time to go in. I sat down sighing to myself as most of the girls around me fix their makeup.

I waited and waited as persons go in one by one the Come back out looking quite unsure of themselves.

The last person went and came back out then it was my turn. I stood up and walked calmy to the door. I pushed it open to see a pretty lady sitting behind the desk with a calm expression. I smiled lightly as I sat in front of her.

"Good morning, I'm Stella Newton"

"Good morning and I'm Amanda Valerio. Let's get down to business shall we?"

"Have you ever worked as a maid before?"

"No, but I do have experience"

"how old are you?"

"24"

"Where did you work last?"

"At a flower shop"

"OK. Why should you get this job and no one else?"

"Because I'm reliable, hardworking; I know I'm not the most perfect but I can tell you that I'll show perfectionism in my work. I really want this job. I really need it"

"That was well said. I don't see any reasons why I shouldn't hire you"

"What did you mean by that?."

"I mean your hired"

"Wait what?! What about the other person's?"

"They seem to be more interested in doing their makeups than working as a maid and it seems like you mostly need it so..... "

We both shared a small laugh. I felt happy for a sec then suddenly my mom flashed across my mind. I sighed deeply. I've cried so much last night it's like I don't have any tears left. I actually cried myself to sleep.

"So, here is a list of things you're expected to do and how much is your pay and so on. You'll start on Monday and I expect punctuality"

"Yes ma'am"

She smiled as I got up and shook her hand before walking out. I was over the moon as I made my way to the elevator with the files in my hand. I placed them in my bag when the elevator stopped and I stepped out.

My phone started ringing. It was Brad. I answered it placing it at my ear as I exited the building.

"hey babe, where are you?"

"Where am I!. Is that all you can ask! Yesterday I told you I was at the hospital and you didn't even care to ask me why? Did you know I lost my job!?. Did you know my mom needs a kidney transplant!?. No because you didn't even care to ask!"

"I'm sorry OK? Let me make it up to you I'm gonna come pick you up. Where are you?"

I sighed deeply before telling him where I was and then the line went dead. I was really pissed at him. I loved Brad but sometimes I think our relationship wasn't working out. We hardly see each other and when we do it's like we're so far apart.

HONK! HONK!

I looked up and saw Brad in his car as he waved at me. When I entered it he plastered a big kiss on my cheek. I didn't really pay it any mind because I was still mad.

" Babe, how about we grab some lunch and talk about it?"

I only nodded as he drove off. I wanted to talk about it from yesterday but no he was too busy. We both sat in uncomfortable silence as he kept glancing at me.

He pulled up at a cafe and we got out of the car. When we were seated he ordered some salad and chicken for us.

"I'm sorry I wasn't there for you yesterday. OK? So tell me what happened"

"Mom collapsed at school and when I went to the hospital the doctor said she needs a kidney transplant and it's really expensive for the surgery"

"that sucks alot. I wish I could help but you know Emma I have to pay for her college fees and her needs"

Emma was his younger sister that was quite needy if you ask me. Brad has to take care of her because his mom didn't exactly have a stable job so he always helps out when he can.

"I lost my job but I got another one, as a maid".

"a maid?. Why not something else like a chef or bartender of something?"

I stared at him as the waiter came back with our food. Was he for real?.

"Yes a maid Brad but I'll be working for a Rich Family. The pay will be good and in about three or so months I'll be able to start my mom's surgery"

He only nodded as we continued eating. I could never be a bartender. That's the last job I think I'd do.

"So, you wanna come over tonight?"

"I don't think I can make it tonight"

"why? It's not like you have work or anything?"

"I know but I have alot of things to take care of"

I kept quiet after that. I wanted to squash the thought but I was right. We were growing distant from one another. Really distant. It had me on the edge that our relationship wasn't going to last.

After a long nap I woke up in the afternoon. Brad and I didn't spend alot of time together since he got a call and he had to go. I didn't come straight home after that because I wenr to see Belle. Mark hasn't proposed to her yet so she didn't look that happy when I went there. She was still on a job hunt also. I spent about an hour there taking about random stuff until I came home and took a nap.

The house felt really empty without mom. I miss her so much.

I took the files from my bag and started reading through the what to do part:

Clean rooms

Wash dishes

Prepare meals

Laundry/ ironing clothes

Accompany boss to shop occasionally

Respect Boss at all times

Expectations of loyalty and dependability

Expected pay:

43,000 weekly

Note: Will be staying in the Guest room as long as you're working at the house.

I sighed to myself. This was alot but the pay was really good. I kind of guessed that I have to stay in the guest room. It would be a waste of fare to travel to and from work everyday so I guess that made sense. I still had bills to be paid so I had to budget myself every week so that most of the money goes to my mom and the rest, bills.

I've never been a Maid before but as they say- there's a first time for everything.
