CHAPTER TWO- IN HIS ROOM
GABRIELLA
I turned from side to side, smiling in my sleep as the plush bed comfortably supported my back. I felt like I was lying on a pile of feathers, which was a contrast to the hard foam in Wendy’s house.
I slowly opened my eyes, wondering what the softness was when I turned to the side and noticed a man lying beside me. The sleep from my eyes instantly cleared and I sat up looking around me in shock.
I remembered all that happened the previous night and I gasped. I have lost my virginity to this stranger; the special gift I had been keeping for my mate was gone in a split second, all because I let go of myself and had a drunken night.
My eyes darted to the wall clock and I saw that the time was almost seven in the morning.
“Shit!” I cursed under my breath and jumped up from the bed. I could feel some soreness down there; a stark reminder of the fact that my virginity was lost just like that.
I hurriedly picked up my clothes from the floor and wore them before bolting out of the room.
I needed to go home as soon as possible and have a quick clean up before heading to Alpha Waylen’s mansion.
I ran out of the hotel, looking left and right in confusion when I sighted Wendy just coming out of the club with her friend.
“The club was lit!” She yelled into the morning, chuckling sheepishly. She was still tipsy from the alcohol.
I rushed up to her and grabbed her shoulders frantically.
“I need to go home now! It’s my first day at work today “ I began to panic.
She talked to her friend and he dropped both of us off at home. I hurriedly rinsed my body in ten seconds and had a quick brush before changing into a simple dress and packing my hair into a bun.
I barely glanced at the mirror before dashing out of the house, constantly checking my watch and praying I get there on time.
After what seemed like a long while, we arrived at the mansion and the cab had barely parked when I tossed the driver’s money to him and bolted out of his cab.
I rushed straight to the gate and was met by a bunch of bodyguards.
“Confirm the name,” one of them said with a hoarse tone.
“Gabriella Montez,” I said nervously, staring at them impatiently as I eagerly waited for them to hurry up.
I slipped in my thumb on the fingerprint machine and clocked in for the day. I was directed to the kitchen and I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. I sighed in relief as I saw the door of the kitchen and opened up.
Everyone turned to face me as I stepped into the kitchen.
“You’re late, Miss Montez,” a stocky-looking woman said to me. She looked like she was in her fifties and had a small pair of spectacles resting on her nose.
“I-I’m sorry,” my cheeks flushed in embarrassment as I looked at the other set of chefs standing before her. There were two ladies and two guys, looking professional and well put together, while my messy hair and barely ironed clothes made me look like I had just come from a fight.
“An interesting first impression you’re giving, looking so rough on your first day,” she shook her head in disapproval, staring at me from head to toe.
I could hear some of the chefs giggle and I bit my lips in embarrassment. No excuse I give is going to make sense.
“I’m sorry. This wouldn’t repeat itself again,”
“Well, it better not!” She said so sharply that I didn’t realize when I jolted in surprise. “Take your place among your colleagues,”
I nodded and went to stand among my fellow chefs. I was standing close to one of the girls and I could see her eye me and slightly move away from me.
“Well, Miss Montez, you came late and have missed out on some instructions and I’m not going to repeat myself. You should ask your colleagues about this later!”
She continued speaking and I learnt that all the chefs in the mansion have tried to make the special soup but none have been able to make it the way he likes it and that is why we were employed. She hoped that with our expertise, we would come up with something nice for Alpha Waylen.
She concluded by telling us we would serve him on different days and I was to serve him on the fifth day. After that, if we don’t meet his requirements of making the soup like his mother, then we would become regular chefs since they were short on staff.
I wondered what Alpha Waylen looks like. I've been in Stone Pack for a little while, barely attending events or going out so I did not know much about the pack. I could only hope that I win so I can make enough to get a nice house and send some money to dad to help with his debt.
I know he doesn’t care about me, but he’s the only family I have and maybe if I pay his debt, then he’ll accept me and finally see my worth.
My eyes traveled around the huge kitchen and I was impressed with what I saw. It was very clean and had all the important gadgets that were needed. It was the heaven of every chef and I pinched myself to be sure I wasn’t dreaming. If I get to use all these appliances, my cooking will come out even better than before.
I tried talking to the other chefs but they all seemed so cold and uptight, except one of them. Her name is Jada, and she told me of some of the things I missed before I came like how we were told to be at the garden by one to collect our ID, and how we were not allowed to snoop around the mansion and only focus on the store room and kitchen. She also showed me the hostel where we would be staying. It was a big hall at the back of the mansion, divided by partitions for each department.
There was only one bed and locker left in the chef's room so I had to take that. I also got to understand that we are free to go home however we like but we must either be in the kitchen during work hours or in our rooms in between breaks.
I was nervous and excited about everything and couldn’t wait to see what the future held for me. I went to the garden to take a stroll in the evening, savoring the sweet-smelling flowers and the beautiful ambiance of the garden when I spotted a white stem flower. It was extremely rare and I remember mum teaching me the knowledge of this flower and its healing properties. A lot of people were not aware but it also gave a rich and distinct flavor to food.
I decided that I would use this flower to make my soup for Alpha Waylen and I know he’s going to love it.
It was finally my turn to make mushroom broth soup for him. I tenderly made the soup with love, putting the emotions of the love of a mother in my skill. I understand the pain of the loss of a mother, and I channelled the tenderness in making the meal step by step as I carefully measured everything in detail.
I ground the stem of the white flower I saw in the garden into powder and added it as a spice into the soup and it instantly gave it a rich flavor with a nice aroma that filled the kitchen. The stocky woman, whom I later learnt was Chef Stella came to the kitchen to inspect my soup after I was done.
“Wow! It smells so good. Anyway, Alpha Waylen isn’t feeling up to it this morning, so you’ll be taking the food to his room.
My heart stopped beating as soon as I heard that statement. I heard Alpha Waylen was intimidating and cold; how would I face him without embarrassing myself?
I didn’t want to, but I had no choice but to serve him. I put the soup on a tray along with some hibiscus tea I made and followed the directions I was given to his room.
I stood in front of a mighty door and my heart suddenly began to beat fast in my chest. I took a deep breath and managed to summon the courage to knock on the door.
“Come in!” I heard his deep voice from the other end of the room. I swallowed hard before finally pushing my wobbly legs into the room, my eyes fixed on the floor. I wouldn’t dare to look at him.
“Put it on the table over there!” I could see his fingers pointing at a small round table close to the window.
“Yes, Alpha Waylen,” I replied and did as he said, my head still bowed and facing the floor. I quickly dropped the food and my legs began walking swiftly out of the room when I heard his hard voice behind me
“Stop!”
I stood still in my tracks, my beating heart threatening to tear out of its ribcage.
“Turn around!” He commanded.
I bit my lips nervously, wondering why he won’t just let me go. He’s not supposed to be having a conversation with me so what is going on here?
I slowly turned around to face him, picking at my fingers with my eyes staring at my feet.
“Look at me when I talk to you,” he commanded, his tone suggesting he doesn’t have time for nonsense.
My head slowly raised and my eyes locked into his beautiful brown eyes. I remember these eyes, this is the man I had a one night stand with at the club.
CHAPTER FORTY- SECRETSWAYLENI stood still at the door, listening hard to hear if I could get pieces of information to fuel my knowledge.“There’s someone here. I can feel someone’s presence,” I heard her say at the other end of the door. Since she had figured someone was around, I knew she wouldn’t talk further so I knocked on the door.“Who is it?”“It’s me, Alpha Waylen,”“Alpha Waylen?” I heard her strained voice from the other end of the phone, followed by the loud sound of roughling, then the click of a metal. The door opened, and Agatha flashed me a crooked smile.“Alpha Waylen,” she gave a slight bow. “You’re here. I’m surprised,”“I need explanations!”She nodded and gave way for me to enter the house. I walked in, my eyes scanning around. The small room was empty and silent, only the occasional hiss of fire dancing in the fireplace could be heard. The room was filled with all sorts of weird drawings and writings on the wall, something ethereal, that only those that deal with
CHAPTER THIRTY NINE— LAKE DRAMAGABRIELLA I was hurt and traumatized. The fact that I was a few seconds away from death made my heart bleed. Even worse, it was from my mate. I couldn’t wrap my head around it and despite how serious the issue is, he has refused to tell me why he tried to strangle me.I wanted to be on my own and clear my head. The garden seemed like the best place to be, so I hastened my steps till I got there.I paused as I saw Christabel sitting on the bench and staring into space. Right now, all I want is to be alone, to be surrounded by the sweet scent of flowers, and watch the pretty butterflies—“Oh! Hello Gabriella!” Christabel’s voice snapped me out of my reverie. My eyes darted towards her as we locked gazes. I could see a small smile tug at the edge of her lips.“You’re here by this time,” I croaked.“Yeah. I got tired of sitting in my room,” she paused as she noticed the countenance on my face.“Are you okay?”“I don’t think so,” I sighed, my face tighteni
CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT—TORN APART WAYLENI didn’t know how, but Erasmus managed to consume me and take over my being. I could feel him overpower me while I got lost in his shadow. I didn’t realize when he began to strangle Gabriella. I was too busy, trying to fight him and gain control over my body as I plunged into a world of darkness. And then I could hear her tears, and then her voice.“Waylen—please “The words hunted me, and I struggled with the last strength I had in me. Her voice gave me a new found vigor and somehow, I managed to gain control over Erasmus and take control of my body.I let go of her and she staggered back, coughing as she held onto her throat.“Gabriella!”She slowly looked up at me, her eyes filled with fear as her body began to shake. I was broken by the sight of her. The way she looked at me like I was a monster hurts like hell.“Please, I’m sorry—“ I took a step forward.“No!” She exclaimed, her lips quivering in fear. “Stay away from me!”And with that, sh
CHAPTER THIRTY SEVEN—STRANGLEDGABRIELLA I took my timer to ensure I prepared the best meal for Lady Sandra and her friend. I wanted them to have the tastiest meal so I made sure everything I did was well thought out and carefully cooked to perfection.I was done at exactly seven and I glanced at the living room to see if the guest had arrived. I could see a strange lady in the living room, talking with Lady Sandra so I knew she had arrived.I placed the plate on a tray and carried it firmly in my hands as I went to the living room.“Good evening,” I gave a slight bow. “I’ll be your chef for—“I stopped talking as Lady Sandra’s guest turned to face me. It was Elora! My eyes widened in surprise as I held her gaze, my mouth quavering in shock.“Hello, Gabriella,” she gave a twisted smile.“You two know each other?” Lady Sandra looked from me to Elora, her brows squinting in surprise.“Yes. I met her in Alpha Waylen’s office,”“Oh! Good, you two have met. Gabriella is a fantastic chef,”
CHAPTER THIRTY SIX—IDENTITYGABRIELLA My heart skipped a bit as I read the message, my cheeks flushing red. I couldn’t wait to be in Waylen’s arms again and even if I tried to fight it, it wasn’t working. I was falling helplessly for him and all I want right now is to enjoy the moment.Just then, Olive appeared in front of me with folded arms.“So this is where you are? I don’t—“She paused as she stared at Wendy, blinking hard at her. I watched in confusion as they both stared at one another.“Have you two met before?” I asked curiously, looking from Wendy to Olive and watching their mannerisms.“No!” Olive answered sharply while I stared at her in confusion before turning to face Wendy, whose face had lost color.“She’s right. I haven’t seen her before,”“Are you sure, Wendy?”“Of course I am. I think I just felt a little sick all of a sudden so don’t mind me,”“If you say so,” I sighed.“You know you shouldn’t be sitting out here while we slave in the kitchen. You’re not allowed h
CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE—SEEING HER AGAIN GABRIELLA I blinked twice, surprised that she would ask such a question. I didn’t think she was in the same social status as someone like me for us to hang out in such a manner.“Me? Are you sure about that?”“Of course I am. We both don’t know our way around so we will make the best duo,”“Oh!” I scratched the back of my head, not sure of the response to give her.“I’m not sure I’m allowed to do that. Plus, I have to work to do,”“I’ll talk to Waylen so you don’t have to bother about that. So what do you say?” “Um…yes, I guess,”“Yaaaay!” She clapped her hands like an excited child. “Great, I’m happy to hear that. I’m sure we’re going to have a lot of fun together,”“Gabriella!” I heard my name. I turned around, my face lit up in a smile as I recognized that voice. It was Wendy’s.She ran up to me and enveloped me in a hug.“Oh Gabriella! You have no idea how much I’ve missed you,” she laughed, breathing into my hair.“Me too,” I cooed, relaxi
