KENDRA
The look on his face when I addressed him as my husband was priceless. I ruffled my hair and looked towards one of the two photographers who I had booked for the day.
I wasn’t lying when I said to Elias that this may possibly be my only wedding hence why I had even dressed the part.
It was clear he wasn’t expecting to see me when I first walked out with Kaleb and if I’m totally honest I didn’t expect to see him there either, although he did look pretty sexy standing up there with a hand in his pocket.
“This is actually my first time ever seeing a groom who doesn’t want to be photographed on his own wedding day” one of my photographers a middle-aged woman commented whilst another one fixed the bottom of my trail.
“What can I say, he must be really shy” I said with a small smile, not knowing that he was standing right behind me.
It was only when he spoke, I realised he was there.
“That’s the last thing I’ll ever be” he said quietly in my ear from behind, making my whole-body shiver as his warm breath tinged against my earlobe.
I quickly turned around and looked up at him as he rested both of his hands on my waist and looked towards the photographers who were eagerly waiting to take some photos of us together.
“beautiful, now can we have one with you lifting Kendra up please” one of them said to Elias, making my heart skip a beat.
Elias looked down at me and smirked,
“Might be a little hard but I’ll try” he said quietly before he lifted me up into the air effortlessly, with my dress nicely falling behind me and creating the perfect picture.
I wrapped both of my arms around his neck and tried my best to not focus on how amazing he smelt and looked,
“I’m not that heavy” I said with a small frown, as he twirled me around and looked up at me with those sexy eyes of his.
It was a few minutes later when Elias put me down and lead the way to our awaiting car which was going to take us to the grand banquet hall where his dad was throwing a small party to celebrate our marriage.
“Don’t you look beautiful” my stepmother Megan said with a smile as she walked over to me with the rest of my family.
It was clear she had only complimented me because she was happy, I was leaving. She had always found me and Kaleb to be a burden, although we had never expected anything from her or even considered her as our mother.
I was barely six when father re-married and bought her into our life, and since that day our lives had taken a turn for the worst.
She was a sly conniving woman who had father wrapped around her fingers and he didn’t even know it.
Kaleb walked over to me quietly and hugged me before I got into the car,
“How are you feeling?” he asked with a small smile that held a hint of sadness to it. I smiled and looked up at him,
“I’m ok” I said before I hugged him back tightly, not wanting him to know how I was actually feeling from the inside.
We hugged for a good few minutes before I waved him goodbye and climbed into the car, not knowing if him and the rest of my family were invited to the party.
Kaleb and my half sister Sianna helped me with the bottom of my dress,
“I’m going to miss you a lot” Sianna said with tears in her eyes as she hugged me tightly and clung onto me with both of her arms, taking me by surprise.
Sianna was fourteen years old, and I loved her just as much as I loved Kaleb, if not more. Unlike her mother and older brother, she was a sweet soul.
“So will I, take care of yourself and I’ll see you soon” I said with a small smile before I hugged her tightly, not knowing what else to say to her to make her feel better.
She kissed me on the cheek softly before she moved back from me forcefully and let father close the door.
“If you ever need anything let me know” he said quietly from the half open window.
I heard what he said but didn’t bother replying, not wanting my emotions to get the better of me. I waited for him to hug and kiss me goodbye, but he never did, instead he gave me a small nod and walked away.
Elias who was sitting in the front with the driver turned and looked at me,
“You alright there?” he asked quietly, with his voice neither deep nor too soft.
I neatened out the bottom of my dress and looked at him with a serious look on my face,
“Why wouldn’t I be” I said before I looked back out of the car window, thinking just like that I had signed my life away, to a man I knew nothing about, apart from the fact that he was an amazing singer.
Everyone seemed to be enjoying the wedding party, everyone but me. All I wanted to do was go home, take of my dress, and get in bed.
“Good evening you must my Elias’s bride, congratulations on your wedding” a woman who looked in her sixties said in her strong African accent as she helped herself to a glass of wine from one of the many waiters who were walking around the venue, making sure everyone had what they needed.
I took a small drink of my iced mocktail and looked at her with a small smile on my face,
“I am yes, and you are?” I asked, thinking since no one from Elias’s family had introduced me to any of their guests I might as well do it myself.
The woman smiled and looked at me,
“My name is Talia, and I am Tyrell’s mother, Elias is my grandson. I can’t believe his mother is not here” she said before she pulled me into her arms and gave me the biggest hug ever, with her huge breasts almost suffocating me.
I just about saved my glass of mocktail from spilling and looked over at her once she finally let go of me,
“Nice to meet you, my names Kendra” I said once I regained my balance, thinking she had definitely taken me by surprise.
Talia looked me up and down and smiled,
“You know for a white girl you have good baby making hips” she said just as Elias walked over to us both and pretended like he didn’t hear anything.
I took another small sip of my drink and looked at his rather loud grandmother,
“Yes, but don’t be getting any ideas, this is just a contract marriage” I said before I looked at Elias, hoping he said something to back up my comment, but he didn’t.
Talia let out a laugh and looked at me,
“So, you’re telling me you will be able to resist my handsome grandson here, I mean look at him, isn’t he perfect” she said before he pulled Elias closer to her and stroked one of his arms lovingly.
“Yes, but he’s not really my type” I said quickly as I looked Elias up and down, wondering what was going through his mind.
“What’s your type? White men?” he asked with a half-smile half smirk on his face.
I could tell from his tone of voice that he was mocking me, even though he didn’t know my preferences.
“Not always” I said before I took another sip of my drink, my large eyes not leaving his.
Talia looked up at Elias and smiled,
“Give it a month and she will consummate the marriage herself don’t you worry” she said confidently, before she walked away, leaving me alone with her precious grandson who looked pretty amused.
“It’s not that funny” I commented before I turned and walked away, towards the dessert table, thinking I’ll treat myself to one small dessert shot, seeing as it was my wedding day, and I hadn’t eaten properly the whole day.
I was busy enjoying my dessert when Elias’s father Tyrell walked over to me and looked down at me,
“How are you feeling?” he asked politely, taking me by surprise.
“I’m fine” I said quickly, not expecting him to care.
Tyrell gave me a small nod,
“I’m sorry the rest of my family couldn’t be here” he said with both of his arms crossed behind him.
I took a small spoonful of my dessert and looked up at him,
“You don’t have to apologise” I said before I looked away, not knowing what else to say.
It wasn’t long Elias walked over to me with a hand in his pocket and asked me if I was ready to leave. I quickly put down the half empty dessert shot I was holding in my hand and followed him out of the venue, thinking I was glad he had asked.
“Where will we be going?” I asked as I picked up the bottom of my dress and followed him to our awaiting car that was parked right outside.
Elias turned slightly and looked at me,
“Home or hotel take your pick” he said before he quickly climbed into the car and moved up over to the other side. I got in after him and looked over at him, thinking neither options sounded pleasing, but I had to choose one and call it a night.
KENDRAI felt my whole world stop, the moment my eyes fell on the guy who was standing casually in the kids room and watching them sleep. He looked just like someone I knew, even though he had his back to the camera and I couldn’t see his face properly. I quickly got up from my seat and raced back upstairs, wondering how the hell someone had got into the apartment without setting off any of the alarms. “Kendra wait don’t go alone” Makayla called out to me, but I didn’t stop running. I pushed opened the door to the triplets room and instantly felt relieved the moment I found all three of them sleeping peacefully in their own beds. The room looked exactly how I had left it a short awhile ago and there was no sight of the man who me and Makayla had both seen on the kids night camera. He looked just like Elias from behind, but I knew it wasn’t him and that I was just imagining stuff, even though a part of me wished that it was him, just so that I could see him again and hear his voi
MAKAYLA“You look gorgeous tonight” I told Kendra as I curled her long hair and looked at her through the mirror, thinking tonight was the first time she was going out with Gabriel, and I couldn’t be more happy for her as she truly deserved it. Gabriel was a good guy and someone who I knew would treat her well. When Kendra first told me that she had agreed to give him a chance, I was a little sad but quickly got over it as if there was anyone who could take my brothers place then that was Gabriel as he had been there for her from the very beginning. “I think I should ring Gabriel and tell him I cant make it” Kendra said as she picked up her phone from the dressing table and quickly unlocked it. It wasn’t the first time she had said this, and I knew it was because she felt guilty, even though she didn’t say it out loud. “You can’t keep doing this Ken, go out and enjoy yourself” I said as I put the curling tong away and looked down at her, hoping she listened. “We can go another da
THREE YEARS LATERKENDRAThe last three years had passed by as a blur, and I honestly didn’t know how I was still alive and breathing without Elias by my side. Not a day passed when I didn’t remember him and his warm presence. Even the best detectives in the city hadn’t been able to find him, and with each day that passed I was slowly losing hope that I would ever see him again as he had been gone for far too long. The only thing that kept me going was our three beautiful children who reminded me everyday that a part of Elias would always belong with me no matter what happened. I had given birth to the most perfect little human beings, a little girl called Eliana and two identical twin boys who I named Konrad and Kaiden. They spent the first six weeks of their lives in hospital as they were all born before their estimated due date but since then they were all well and had grown nicely. I never thought it was possible for me to love them as much as I did but they were definitely th
KENDRAIt took me a moment to understand what the hell Mikel wanted from me as I opened the file and quickly read through it. “Sign it now” He muttered before he glanced at his watch.I closed the file and looked up at him angrily. “You will never be a part of my kids life, you’re an idiot if you thought I’d agree to this willingly” I said with a small frown, thinking how dare he ask to adopt one of my unborn babies. Mikel took a step towards me held the gun he was holding in his hand against the side of my head. “Then I guess I have no choice other than to kill you and take them myself” he said angrily, and it was in that moment I realised that I couldn’t put my life at risk or that of the triplets inside of me that were kicking more then usual. “Fine I’ll sign it” I said quickly as I just wanted him to back off and leave me alone. Mikel moved the gun from the side of my head and looked down at me angrily, like I was his worst enemy. “Make it quick” he said as he watched me cl
Six weeks had passed, and I still hadn’t accepted the painful truth that Elias was gone for good, even though all his family had said their last goodbyes and even held a small private funeral in his honour. I was the only one who didn’t bother attending it, as I refused to believe that the love of my life was gone forever. I buried myself deep into work, as that was the only thing that kept me sane and momentarily made me forget about the constant pain I felt deep inside my heart. Mikel and Tyrell had both tried contacting me a few times in the last few weeks, but I made sure neither one of them came close to me, as I didn’t trust them at all. It was the late in the evening and I was busy working on my laptop when Gabriel walked into my office and closed the door after himself. “You should really go home and rest, you know I’m more than capable of handling everything here” he said before he passed me a bag of food that he had picked up from one of the restaurants in the building.
KENDRAA week had passed, and I had finally accepted the painful truth that Elias was never going to return home or answer any of my calls. The plane he was travelling in had crashed near a small island just on the outskirts of Indonesia, and today was the day I was going to visit the crash site and relive my worst nightmare all over again. Makayla and Gabriel were both joining me on this heartbreaking trip, and I couldn’t say to either one of them as they had both been by side from the very first moment, I got the devastating news about Elias. In fact, it was Gabriel who found me unconscious on the floor of my office, after Mikel told me that he played a big part in getting rid of Elias from my life forever. “Hey, are you ok?” Makayla asked me quietly as the driver drove us all to the place where they had found some of Elias’s personal belongings, including his passport.“This is a lot harder then I thought it would be” I said as I leaned back against my seat and looked out of th
