3. Chapter Three.

Fairies, werewolves, vampires, and zombies were all mentioned in stories I had heard, but everyone knew they were made up. Everything was untrue. They were all purely made-up tales of fiction.

I was abruptly being held by my throat against the wall by Vince, who had a vicious appearance and was bearing teeth at me with wide eyes and a dangerous demeanor before I could absorb or allow the news to settle in further.

My hand clawed at his hand while I coughed and heaved desperately for air.

"What is this sorcery?!" I was left with no choice but to gasp and grasp for the last of my air as his words now echoed throughout the entire room.

"This quickly?" Vince looked up when the previous woman entered the room.

Vince's eyes then wandered back towards me before dropping me flat on the ground. I held onto my neck while backing away into the corner of the room. I wanted to be as far away as possible from the menacing and deadly hands of Vince.

He turned to her and said, "Do you hear that?"

"Hear what?" Catherine responded with a perplexed query.

"Exactly, I'm unable to hear the humans thoughts. Why am I unable to hear her thoughts?" He viciously snapped his head towards me.

"Remarkable. Never once have I encountered a human that I couldn't read. How did this go unnoticed until now?" I crept away from the woman as she approached because I was so terrified.

"Are you a witch girl?! Are you associated with those vermin's in anyway?" Vince yelled at me before storming over to where I was.

"Wait! The wisest course of action would be to consult Prince Salvatore before taking action on our own." I perked up hearing the particular name.

"What rubbish! The only person who can prevent a vampire from reading people's minds is a witch, as everyone is aware. Prior to it attempting to massacre us all, we should have it slain right away." Angry at me, Vince spat back.

"You do know that keeping a witch hidden and failing to kill her right away could result in our own deaths and the deaths of the entire coven. Before the royals learn somehow and we get into problems, we must act immediately." Vince retaliated against her.

I hiccuped as a result of crying too much. I nearly passed out when I heard Vince's remarks. My head throbbed in agony and was blurred.

"Vince, try not to be too hasty. After all, we could very well be holding onto a real gem here. Have you lost sight of the fact that Prince Salvatore is a royal by birth? Give him the last say in what happens to her." Catherine snickered.

"What sense does it truly make to have a pet if I'm unable to read their damn minds? And I'm sure Prince Salvatore would be more than happy to tear the witch's head off." Vince stated with much aggression.

"Bite her. Perhaps we can truly know what she is if we taste her blood, if she was a witch I'm sure could simple cast some time of spell on us and get away or something." The woman named Catherine suggested.

"Absolutely not. Could you picture what would occur if her blood came from a witch? You are aware of what occurs to all vampires when they come into contact with specific witches." Vince gave me a quick look as if to communicate with her covertly.

"You are right. It would be advisable to consult a Royal who can identify herself with just a quick glance because of this." The female seemed to be trying to hide something as she spoke.

"You know Catherine, I find it astounding that you believe every living thing you encounter merits the chance to survive. It's pretty concerning that you would put your life at danger for this." He groaned.

"But don't you deserve the opportunity to survive?" He glared at her as she responded.

"If she is a witch by blood, she might come in handy. We might be able to train her. The power of a witch in our hands is immense." Woman made suggestion.

A witch? I was not a damn witch!

"Have you forgotten the laws considering that we already possess the most powerful pack and a royal as our leader? Are you trying to kill the whole pack, or just some of them?" Vince praised his prince-or whatever he was-in glowing terms.

"Plus have you forgotten, they cannot be trusted even if you trained them. Although this one also shows no sign of having any capabilities. Wouldn't we be able to pick up if she's indeed a witch?" Vince now questioned to himself mostly as I continued to listen the twos interaction.

"Exactly, there are too many questions concerning her that must be addressed before any harm is done. She is an anomaly." Vince scoffed when he heard what she had to say said.

"Tell us, who are you?" The female inquired.

I looked up at the man immediately out of terror for my life. Not to add how frightened I was to speak, I didn't trust them. If I made a mistake, they would probably snap my neck.

My head continued to pound painfully, and I didn't even have time to process the nonsense they spewed.

"Vince, you've done a great job of frightening the poor girl into submission." She spoke.

"Good. Nothing compares to a savage and cunning witch silently preparing to kill us all while she stalks the damn halls." He became upset with her.

"If it's a burden to you, I can keep her with me until Prince Salvatore himself accesses her. She's a rare beauty, too, much more stunning than what we've both captured ourselves numerous times." I nearly cringed in disgust as she inquired, carefully grabbing my chin to scrutinize my face.

"What I'm going to do with her is something I haven't decided on yet. She is absolutely gorgeous. She would have been a great pet for a variety of reasons. beautiful and submissive. A powerful mixture to boast about in front of the group." Vince clasped his hands together and looked me over carefully.

My stomach suddenly began to growl, and I quickly turned away, blushing with shame.

Hearing their statements made me want to scream, but instead I found myself blushing like a moron.

"Have you eaten yet?" Vince asked while glancing down at me.

Reluctant to say anything, I shook my head. I hadn't eaten in several hours, so I was ravenous. I quickly wondered whether this was how I was supposed to pass away.

"Those damn maids." He hissed.

Because I knew vampires drank blood and I didn't, I questioned if they had planned to give me blood to consume too.

"For you to obtain something to eat, let's take you downstairs to the kitchen. It's best if you stick by us until our master comes to get you." As she spoke, I had the strangest feeling that she was a more safer presence than the fearsome Vince, who seemed all too willing to chop off my head.

The woman's smile softened the brusqueness of the surroundings.

"Come with me." She took my hand and lead me out of the room with Vince closely behind me.

After leaving the room, we turned around and went back the way we had come. I was escorted down a few flights and taken straight to the kitchen, where I ran into the maid from earlier and a few other folks who were preparing lunch.

Snapping her fingers the lady then spoke, "Lunch for our guest, please and make it quick," She hurried them while Vince glared.

Taking my hand she brought me into a very huge dining hall. Something you'd see at an hotel with a large table.

"So tell me, what did you do before you ended up here?" She asked.

"Yes, it does seem rather weird that you would be walking around the empty street so late. wanting to be discovered." Using his hands as a microphone, Vince spoke up while seated across from us.

I refrained from speaking, as they expected me to be approachable after they informed them that they were all vampires.

"Catherine Doyle," She spoke. Following her self-introduction, she continued, "This narcissist right here is Vince Malone, generally a lovely person to be around but it's a different story when it's that time of the month." Her amusing remarks were mocked by Vince.

"Isabella Belfield is my name. When you caught me, I was a receptionist at the Severity Restaurant on my way home." I told her when I started to feel a little at ease with her.

"What about your family?" I was encouraged to continue by Catherine.

"As I was told when I was younger, my parents perished in a car accident." I spoke as the maid brought a plate of food.

"Go ahead and dig in." I was urged to eat by Catherine.

The plate was stacked with orange juice, some water, and a platter of food piled high with chocolate pancakes, eggs, bacon, and fruit buttered toasts.

I immediately started eating after hearing Catherine order, barely audibly moaning as I went. At least, that's what I thought as I gaped in horror at Catherine and Vince, whose eyes flashed venomously red in my direction.

All logical ideas had been lost in the wind; I hadn't even considered whether or not it would be poisonous. I was surprised at their eyes colors and wondered if they were about to kill.

"Try not to moan while eating. As a matter of fact try not to moan any at all." Vince groaned and I coward away at his words recognizing my mistake while Catherine watched with a small smile now playing on her lips as her eyes got back to it's normal colors.

I shakily nodded my head but before I could finish my lunch, a whoosh of cool, bright air swept over my body, as if beckoning me to it. As though its spirit was in desperate need of something and I was the only one who could feed it.

I closed my eyes and took a long breath, feeling nostalgic at the unexpected sweetness before it abruptly left my body and I became bewildered.

I debated saying anything about it but ultimately opted not to. I had to be careful what I said around these enigmatic creatures.

"Eat up, we'll have you brought to our Master Salvatore so he can assess you soon." Catherine stated patting my head like a pet.

The name sparked an exhilaration in me that I didn't realize I had, but it also made me feel as if this was the end of my life and I was about to face unexpected annihilation.
