I drove through the dark streets with the address glowing on my phone screen and every red light feeling like it was designed to slow me down. Theo is with him. If I am not there in twenty minutes something will happen that cannot be undone. My hands stayed locked on the wheel and my breathing stayed shallow as I turned into a quiet industrial street lined with low buildings that looked empty and forgotten under the yellow floodlights.

The address led me to a black door with no sign and no windows. I parked and stepped out into the cold air with my keys still clenched in my fist. The door opened before I could knock and Sable Quinn stood there looking as calm and unreadable as she always did. She stepped aside without speaking and I walked into a long hallway that smelled of old concrete and metal. At the end of the hall a single door stood open and the light spilling from it was the only thing that guided me forward.

Inside the room Theo sat in a chair with his wrists resting loosely on the arms and his eyes wide with fear when he saw me. He was not tied down yet the way he held himself told me he had been told not to move. Riven stood near the far wall with his hands in his pockets and his expression completely controlled as if taking my brother was the most ordinary thing in the world.

You came alone, Riven said. Good. That is the first correct decision you have made tonight.

I walked straight toward Theo but Riven’s voice stopped me before I could reach him.

Do not touch him yet. We have things to discuss first.

My feet froze against the floor while my heart beat so hard I could feel it in my throat. Riven pushed away from the wall and walked slowly between us until he stood close enough that I had to tilt my head to meet his eyes.

Your brother is unharmed for now, he told me. Whether he stays that way depends entirely on how well you obey from this moment forward. Night three has already begun and the rules are changing. You will stay here until morning. You will do everything I say without argument. And you will stop asking questions about the letter until I decide you are ready to hear the rest of the truth.

Theo’s voice broke the silence in a shaky whisper. Nora what is he talking about? What letter?

Riven turned his head slightly toward my brother. She will explain later if she survives the night. Then he looked back at me. The gentleness disappeared from his face.

You should not have tested me by almost involving your ex, he said. Jonah was a mistake. I do not like mistakes.

I forced myself to hold his gaze. You took my brother to teach me a lesson?

I took your brother because you needed a reminder of what is actually at stake, he replied. The contract was never only about sex. You keep treating it like it is. That ends tonight.

He stepped closer. The heat of his body reached me and the familiar scent of his skin made my breath catch even in the middle of the fear.

You will spend the rest of night three here with me, he said. Your brother will remain exactly where he is. If you follow every instruction I give you he will walk out of here at dawn without a scratch. If you refuse even once I will make sure he understands the cost of your pride.

My stomach dropped. The air in the room felt too thin.

And if I agree?

Then we continue the nights as planned, Riven said. And you finally stop pretending you still have choices.

I looked at Theo. His face was pale with confusion and rising horror. The demand hung between us like a blade. For the first time since I signed the contract I felt the full weight of what one hundred nights could truly cost.

Riven waited without repeating himself. The only sound in the room was the quiet hum of the lights above us and the rough sound of my own breathing.

I knew that if I refused Theo would pay the price. I also knew that if I obeyed something inside me would shift in a way that could not be repaired.

What do you want me to do first? I asked.

Riven’s eyes stayed on mine. Sit down in the chair across from your brother. Do not speak to him. Do not look at him unless I tell you to. We are going to have a long conversation about honesty. And when the sun comes up you will understand exactly how little control you have left.

  • Hundred Nights With Him    Chapter 19: The Favor

The building Riven stopped in front of looked ordinary from the street. Too ordinary. A low office structure with darkened windows and a side entrance that required a code. He entered the numbers without hesitation and held the door for me. The hallway inside smelled of dust and old paper. Our footsteps sounded too loud in the quiet.I kept my voice low. "Who is this person?""Someone who used to move money for people who preferred not to leave clean records, Riven said. He also used to work with Hale. That combination makes him useful and unstable in equal measure. Do not trust his manners. Trust the fact that he still owes me something he cannot afford to leave unpaid."We took a narrow staircase to the second floor. Riven knocked once on a plain wooden door. A moment later it opened. The man who stood there was older than Riven, with gray at his temples and the kind of eyes that measured everything in risk. He looked at me first, then at Riven, then back at me again."You brought c

  • Hundred Nights With Him    Chapter 18: The Message Leaves

I woke before the sun with the envelope still in the jacket I had thrown over the chair. For a long moment I lay still and listened to the quiet of the apartment, half expecting the decision I had made in that dark lot to feel smaller in daylight. It did not. If anything it felt heavier.Theo was already in the kitchen when I walked in. He watched me pour coffee without speaking. The distance from the night before was still there, but something in his expression had shifted. He looked less like he was waiting for permission and more like he was measuring how much longer he could tolerate the silence."You left again last night," he said."I did.""With him.""Yes."Theo set his cup down carefully. "I keep trying to decide whether you are protecting me or protecting yourself from having to admit how deep this is. I still have not decided."I met his eyes. "Both can be true at the same time."He held my gaze for another second, then nodded once and left for class. The door closed quietl

  • Hundred Nights With Him    Chapter 17 : The Envelope

I sat in the passenger seat with the envelope resting in my lap and the low hum of the engine filling the silence. Riven did not rush me. He simply watched the empty lot through the windshield as if he had all the time in the world. The patience felt deliberate. It always did.I turned the envelope over once without opening it. The paper was thick. Expensive. The kind of detail that made everything feel more calculated."You expect me to trust you with this," I said."I expect you to decide whether the alternative is worse," he replied. "Elena already knows you have been digging. She will not wait much longer before she tightens the pressure on Theo to remind you of your place. Victor Hale is one of the few remaining people who can make her position less clean. That is useful. It is also dangerous. Both things can be true at the same time."I looked at his profile. The scar on his knuckle was visible again under the dashboard light. I still did not know the story behind it. The not kn

  • Hundred Nights With Him    Chapter 16: Different Directions

I sat in the dark kitchen long after Riven dropped me off, still wearing the clothes I had put back on in that quiet room. My body ached in places that felt too intimate to name, but the physical marks were not what kept me awake. It was the sentence he had left me with.Elena is collecting a debt. I am collecting something else.I kept turning the words over, trying to force them into a shape I could use. The idea that Riven might not be fully aligned with Elena should have brought relief. Instead it only created a new kind of unease. A man who admitted he was collecting something from me while still delivering me into her plans was not safer. He was simply harder to predict.Theo’s door opened around two in the morning. He stood in the hallway and looked at me for a long time before he spoke."You did not come home the same," he said."I rarely do anymore."He walked into the kitchen and sat across from me. The low light from the street made his face look younger and older at the sa

  • Hundred Nights With Him    Chapter 15: The Doorway

I walked through the doorway.I hated that I did it without more of a fight. I hated the way my pulse climbed as I crossed the threshold and heard Riven close the door behind us. The room beyond was larger than the others, dimly lit, with wide windows that showed the city like a scattered field of lights. There was a bed. There was a chair. There was enough open space to make the quiet feel intentional.Riven stayed near the door for a moment and watched me."You are angry," he said."I am past angry.""Good. Anger is clearer than fear. It makes the truth harder to hide."I turned to face him fully. "You keep talking about truth as if you are the only one allowed to define it. You knew about Elena. You knew about the second document. You knew about the gaps in my memory. And you still let me walk into every one of these nights believing the contract was the main cage.""It was never the main cage,"he said. "You needed time to see that for yourself.""And now that I have seen it? What

  • Hundred Nights With Him    Chapter 14: What the Nights Are For

I barely slept. Every time I closed my eyes I saw my own signature at the bottom of that document and felt Elena’s hand over mine again. The anger sat in my chest like something alive. By the time morning light pushed through the curtains I was already awake and exhausted at the same time.Theo was in the kitchen when I walked in. He took one look at my face and set his mug down harder than necessary."You look worse than yesterday," he said. "Whatever that man is doing to you is getting heavier. I can see it."I poured coffee I did not want. "Leave it alone, Theo.""I am done leaving it alone. You come home later and later. You flinch when your phone lights up. You look at me like you are measuring how much truth I can carry. I am not fragile. Stop treating me like I will break if you tell me the real shape of this."The frustration in his voice scraped against the raw places already open inside me. I turned on him before I could stop myself."You want the real shape? Fine. Dad left
