I had told Karen I would be spending two days in town, but I was wrong. My uncle had been injured badly, and he wasn't doing well. My pack was attacked by hunters at night, and they had suffered a great loss. I hid the news from Karen, but Gavin knew, and I begged him and Ruth not to tell her. I didn't want her getting worried over me.

My mother blamed me for the attack. She called me useless. She claimed they wouldn't have succeeded in hurting people if I were around. I didn't take her accusations to heart because I knew she was hurting.

I was waiting for my uncle to come through so he could tell me exactly what led to the fight. The delta had explained to me, but I wanted to hear from my uncle.

According to the delta, the attackers were highly trained and skilled hunters. The hunters had attacked for no reason. I asked them to sketch whichever hunter they could recognise.
