Getting cocky?!

Claire was so shocked she hiccupped.

Forgetting her embarrassment, she grabbed Ethan's arm.

“Why the sudden divorce?! We've only been married for two weeks!"

Damn it.

She had thought Ethan prepared this meal to celebrate their two-week wedding anniversary.

She had completely overthought it.

This was the last supper!

Ethan pulled his hand away, his attitude cold.

“I didn't think things through before. Now that I've calmed down, I've realized the problems between us. Luckily, it's not too late. Divorce is the best solution."

Claire was both speechless and furious.

Her face flushed red.

"Ethan, you were the one who proposed marriage, and now you're the one asking for a divorce. Are you playing with me?"

Ethan looked at her quietly."You never liked me anyway, did you?"

Claire froze.

Had Ethan heard something?

Or seen something?

Had Noah or Roseline provoked him?

Or had his so-called male lead instincts awakened, like the gears of fate beginning to turn, making him realize he didn't like the original owner of this body?

Claire's head throbbed.

Could she really not escape the fate of a cannon-fodder supporting character destined for a tragic ending?

No.

They were already married.

Even if she wanted a divorce, it would only be after Ethan returned to his wealthy family and became the heir of

Bellmont's elite circle.

Divorcing now would be too great a loss.

She could step aside for the female lead in a wife-chasing romance novel...but not now!

So what should she do?

Suddenly, Sandra's words flashed through Claire's mind.

Men are easy to coax, kiss him, hug him, pounce on him.

Claire stared at Ethan’s side profile, her heart pounding nervously.

The man turned his head away, looking indifferent.

Was this part of the novel's plot?

Had her role as a supporting character beside the male lead already come to an end?

No.

She refused to divorce like this.

Her dream of becoming a rich woman hadn't come true yet.

Since she had already transmigrated into this novel, she might as well be bold for once.

Claire walked around to Ethan's side and called softly.

"Ethan~"

Then she cupped his face with both hands, turned him toward her…and kissed him.

Claire couldn't help admiring herself.

Both times, she had taken the initiative.

Ethan was clearly startled and froze where he stood.

Recalling a short video she had watched earlier, Claire lightly bit his upper lip.

Ethan's gaze darkened.

He immediately pulled her away and stared at her.

"What are you doing?"

His voice was low and hoarse.

Claire shamelessly replied,

“Didn't you doubt my sincerity? I'm proving my feelings for you with my actions.”

Ethan's pupils contracted slightly as he looked at her with a

complicated expression, as if trying to see through her.

Claire thought to hersolf that this male lead was really difficult to fool.

If she didn't put in some effort, Ethan would never believe she liked him.

Fine.

She'd try Sandra's method again.

Maybe it would work.

Breaking free from his grip, she cupped his face again and leaned forward trying to press her lips against his once more.

But Ethan suddenly stepped aside, increasing the distance between them.

“Claire...Calm down."

“I'm very calm," Claire replied.

Ethan rubbed his temples.

“I hope you've thought this through.This is the last chance I'm giving you. If you don't divorce me now, you won't have another opportunity."

Claire answered firmly.

“I've thought it through. I won't divorce you!" 

But in her heart she thought: first wait until you meet the female lead.

Then you'll be the one getting slapped in the face.

As she spoke, Claire tried to pounce on him again.

Even she didn't know when her skin had become so thick.

But Ethan had already grabbed his coat and walked toward the door.

“I'll stay at the company for the next couple of days. Think about it calmly, then give me your answer."

Before Claire could respond, he closed the door and left.

Claire sat down dejectedly.

How had things turned out like this?

After sitting there in a gloomy mood for a while, she finally got up and went to wash the dishes.

The next morning, Claire left for work and stood by the elevator.

Two minutes later, the elevator arrived with a ding.

When the doors opened-

Inside stood a person with his head wrapped in gauze and one arm in a cast.

He looked terrifying.

Claire was startled and instinctively stepped back instead of entering.

Judging from his clothes, it was probably a man.

Seeing her retreat two steps with a frightened look, the man seemed even more terrified of her.

Then he cautiously hopped out of the elevator and limped away as if a ghost were chasing him.

Claire watched him enter the apartment next door.

Realization dawned instantly.

That person was…the short, fat man from next door.

Were those injuries inflicted by Ethan?!

Well, the man had been in the wrong first and had been too scared to call the police.

He deserved the beating.

After hesitating for two seconds, Claire stopped into the elevator.

All the way to work, she kept thinking about how to save this marriage.

After all, she was just a cannon fodder in the main couple's love story.

Having a little selfishness wasn't unreasonable.

Once she got the money, she promised she would stay far away from the main couple and never disturb them again.

Right now, the most important thing was making Ethan believe she loved him and that she wouldn't divorce him.

Claire was absent-minded the entire morning.

While serving a client, she made a mistake and was called into Manager Holly's office.

"Claire, I praised you once and now you're already getting cocky?! Starting to slack off again?"

Claire immediately admitted her mistake.

“I'm sorry. Manager Holly. I'll be more careful in the future."

Seeing her good attitude, Manager Holly didn't continue scolding her.

At lunchtime, Sandra got her food and sat beside Claire.

“What's wrong with you today? You look distracted.”

Claire sighed and looked at her.

"You and your boyfriend have been together for years. Do you ever argue?”

“Of course we argue," Sandra replied.“What couple doesn't? I've never seen one that doesn't.”

Claire asked. “If you make your boyfriend angry, how do you usually calm him down?"

Sandra widened her eyes.

"How did you make your boyfriend angry again?”

Claire covered her face.

That's right.

Why was she so unlucky?

Why did she keep making Ethan angry and constantly have to coax him?

What sins had she committed in her past life?

It was dviving her crazy.

"Forget that part,"Claire said helplessly."Just tell me how to appease him."

Sandra replied, "Didn't I tell you before? Kiss him, hug

him or pounce on him.”

Claire sighed. "What if he won't let me kiss him, hug him, or pounce on him?”

Ethan was deliberately avoiding her now. 

She really couldn't force it.

Sandra looked at her sympathetically.

“Is your boyfriend really that hard to please?"

"Finding a handsome guy is troublesome," she added with a sigh.

"They usually have bad tempers and get angry easily."

Claire pursed her lips.

She didn't know how to explain things to Sandra.

It was too complicated.

So she placed all her hopes on her.

"Do you have any other ideas?"

Sandra thought for a moment, resting her chin on her hand.

“There's no special trick, Just be thick-skinned.If you really like your boyfriend, be more proactive."

“Randomly pounce on him, create surprises, and make him feel that he's always in your heart and in your eyes."

"Make him think you can't live without him."

Claire paused for a moment before asking slowly.

“You mean...I have to act like I'm completely love-struck?”
