Chapter 1

The moment I saw that familiar list, I jolted awake.

The suffocating feeling of drowning and the soul-burning pain of wolfsbane were still etched deep within my wolf spirit.

Inside my mind, my wolf struggled wildly, as if it hadn't escaped that death by drowning. Low, panicked growls echoed through my consciousness.

Then I heard my dad's deep and authoritative voice. It was unmistakably that of the Alpha of Obsidian Pack.

"Lana, you've turned eighteen. Today, you'll choose one of these nine werewolf warriors to be your mate at the marking ceremony."

That was when it hit me. By the grace of the Moon Goddess, I had been reborn.

I took the list from him without hesitation, picked up a pen, and crossed out the name 'Simon' with force.

My dad was stunned. "Lana, are you sure you didn't make a mistake? You've liked Simon since you were a pup. Why would you cross him out? Wait. I'll have someone prepare a new list–"

I shook my head. My voice was calm but firm. "No, Dad. I didn't make a mistake. I'm not choosing Simon. I'm choosing Keith."

In my mind, I saw the look on Keith Lloyd's face after I died in my previous life. I also saw his unbearable grief and heard the howl he let out after shifting into his wolf form. It had pierced straight through my soul.

Seeing how determined I was, my dad fell silent for a moment before nodding.

He told me not to announce my choice yet. It would be revealed at the marking ceremony in three days.

The moment I stepped out past the pack's boundary, I ran straight into Simon Eaton in Moonlit Forest.

Leah Lewis was with him.

The moment she saw me, she trembled and hid behind Simon.

Simon immediately pulled her protectively in front of him. His voice was deep and reassuring. "Don't be afraid, Leah. With me here, no one in this pack would dare mistreat you."

He then shot me a vicious glare. His eyes flashed faint green the way a werewolf would on the verge of shifting.

"Lana, even if Leah is just an Omega, you don't get to mistreat her like this."

Leah placed her bruised, scraped hand on Simon's arm. She put on a pitiful expression with practiced ease.

"Simon, don't blame Lana. I'm of a low status. Washing bloodstained clothes for the future Luna is nothing."

I froze for a second. I then sneered on the inside.

I had never ordered Leah to wash anything.

Before I could even speak, Simon bared his fangs at me and growled.

"Listen carefully, Lana. Even if you use your privilege of the Alpha's daughter to force me to be your mate, my wolf and I will only find you repelling. I won't touch you."

He then gently stroked Leah's hand.

"Leah, you may be an Omega, but you're not beneath anyone. You're purer than the shewolf with a rotten heart."

I felt a sharp ache in my chest.

Be it this life or the past, he had never believed me.

Just then, a foul rogue scent burst from the shadows of the forest.

A stranger lunged at me with a gleaming silver blade.

I gasped and instinctively stepped back.

Simon reacted fast. He ran forward, blocked the attack, and kicked the assassin's ribs in. The blade was sent flying.

But at that exact moment, Leah let out a scream and collapsed to the ground.

Another rogue, who was hiding in ambush, had slashed her leg with a wolfsbane-coated dagger. Black smoke rose from the wound.

Simon hesitated for a split second, but when he heard Leah cry out, he immediately released the rogue and ran to her side. He pulled her tightly into his arms.

Watching that made my heart go cold completely.

The rogue saw that I was unprotected. He scrambled to his feet and lunged at me again with the silver blade.

Just as the blade was about to pierce my chest, a massive black wolf appeared before me.

With a deafening roar, it slammed the rogue away with a single swipe.

I opened my eyes and looked past the dust in the air.

It was Keith.

His wolf eyes burned with murderous intent as he stood before me like an immovable wall.

Keith's POVLater, I noticed Lana had changed. The day the Alpha told her to choose a mate from nine warriors, everyone thought she would choose Simon.Even I thought the same. That night, I drank a lot.The burn of the alcohol in my throat wasn't much worse than wolfsbane.I just wanted to numb myself with alcohol. That way, I wouldn't have to watch her walk to Simon or watch him sink her fangs into her neck. I wouldn't have to watch them complete the marking. But the next day, before the ceremony began, I heard something.Simon's name had been crossed off the list.I thought it was the Alpha's decision. It wasn't until I stood on the platform that I heard Alpha calling out my name."Keith."I thought I misheard.I looked up and saw Lana standing on the altar and smiling at me.I walked up to the altar. Every step felt unreal. My wolf was going wild inside me and howling with joy, but I forced it to calm down.I was afraid this was a dream, and I was afraid I'd wake up

Keith's POVI was eleven that year. Lana, the Alpha's daughter, was eight. She was like a little ball of snow when she bounced around the pack. Her silver-gray hair glowed softly under the moonlight.Every time she ran past me, I couldn't help but look up.I never approached her.An adopted warrior had no right to get close to the Alpha's only daughter. That winter was especially brutal. Moonlit Lake had frozen solid.I remembered that afternoon clearly. I was patrolling alone by the lake.Snow reached past my ankles, and the air smelled of pine and frost. That was when I heard the sharp crack of ice breaking. It was followed by a soft, startled cry.I turned around and saw a dark hole in the center of the lake. There was a flash of silver-gray hair on the surface, but it quickly disappeared. It was Lana.My mind went blank.Without any hesitation, I dove in. The icy water was murky, and I could barely see a thing.I could only rely on my sense of smell. Her faint, milky

Three years later, Keith officially became the Alpha of Obsidian Pack.Since I was his mate, I became the pack's Luna. That same day, I received a letter without a sender's name.I knew it was from Simon. The words were filled with bitterness. He wrote that he was now just a rogue who could never shift again. He prayed the Moon Goddess would bless us with happiness. While wandering the wild, he had reflected on everything. He apologized for all the stupid things he did in the past.He knew I would never forgive him, but before he died, he still wanted to say sorry.I finished reading it and tossed it into the fireplace. I let it burn to ash.Everything in the past would stay in the past.I would live a happy life with my Alpha mate.Although the patrol duties were gruelling, Keith always tried to return home before sunset to spend time with me.One day, while cleaning, I entered his study. I found a locked wooden box at the bottom of a bookshelf.I opened it and found stac

It was actually Simon who came.He had been following Leah and looking for a chance to redeem himself. That was how he found this abandoned silver mine. His eyes turned bloodshot as he shifted instantly into a gray wolf and charged in without hesitation. The rogues were forced to shift and fight back, but they were no match for him. In a frenzy, Simon tore through them and left their bodies mangled and bleeding. He shifted back into human form, threw his coat over me, broke part of the chains, and lifted me up to carry me out.Leah, who was ignored, snapped like a lunatic. She lunged forward with the wolfsbane-coated dagger."Watch out!" I shouted. She moved too fast. To protect me, Simon turned around and took the lethal blow head-on.The dagger plunged deep into his spine. The wolfsbane toxin spread instantly. Thick black smoke rose from the wound.Simon let out a pained howl and collapsed.Watching him fall into a pool of blood, Leah panicked. "No! Simon, I did all this fo

After that, Simon didn't show up again for a long time.My relationship with Keith grew steadier with each passing day.Back then, my entire world revolved around Simon. But being with Keith made me realize that a true mate bond wasn't about one side constantly offering to compromise. Instead, it was about two werewolves leaning on each other and trusting each other with their lives.A third scent should never come between mates.I thought life would remain peaceful and happy under the Moon Goddess's blessing, but Leah's appearance broke that peace. It was Keith's birthday. I left the pack alone and went to the Snow Wolf Pack's marketplace to find a rare ingredient as a surprise gift.Just as I stepped out of the market, I ran into Leah in an alley. She was skin and bones. Her hair looked like dry straw, and her sunken eyes made her look like a dying rogue.I was just thinking about how cruel the wilderness could be to rogues when Leah started laughing eerily."Lana, it's been

On the way home, Keith held my hand tightly and asked in a soft voice, "Lana, I've always wondered about this. You used to love Simon so much. What changed?"My thoughts drifted to the past. When I was young, I once fell into a frozen lake. It was Simon who jumped in without hesitation and rescued me.From that moment on, my wolf saw him as a hero. I began to admire and fall for him.Back then, he had been gentle with me.My dad was always busy with the pack, and I had lost my mom young. Simon was the one who stayed by my side. He comforted me with his scent.I thought when I came of age, everything would fall into place. But ever since Leah joined the pack, everything changed. He began favoring her without realizing it. He said she was an orphaned werewolf, just like him.At first, to make him happy, I accepted her too.But slowly, she started crossing every line. She frequently framed me for bullying her while feeding Simon's need to protect her.No matter how I explained,
