“Why not just kill yourself, you ugly whore?”
I don’t think I could count the amount of times I’ve been told such by the people of my pack.
The man who bumped into me sent me an ugly sneer before walking away.
“Asshole.” I mumbled under my breath.
Being the only omega of the pack meant I had to endure abuse and mistreatments from the members of Dark Silver Pack. My parents had died when I was young so it meant nobody could defend me from all the harsh treatments.
I’d always hoped for a day when I would find a mate. I let out a breath as I made my way through the hall. It was the Moonlight Festival, an auspicious night when everybody gathered to celebrate all the prosperity and peace we’ve achieved in the pack.
“Sorry.” I mumbled underneath my breath as another person bumped into my shoulder again.
The hall had been decorated just for this night. The place had an air of festivity that got every single person in a celebrative mood. I could almost forget all my sorrows and pain.
“Attention.”
The sound of a mic drew everybody’s attention. We all turned to look at the source of the sound. I held my breath when my eyes fell on the Alpha.
Callen Everdeen.
Handsome was an understatement when trying to describe him. He had the face of an angel and the body of a Greek god himself. I had to stop myself from drooling. It was hard to take my eyes off him.
He was dressed in a tailored suit that seemed to hug him in just the right places. He tapped on the mic a little and brought it to his mouth.
“Esteemed members of this pack. I welcome you all to the Moonlight Festival. May the blessings of the Moon Goddess be upon this night of festivities.”
He paused, his eyes searching through the crowd. I held my breath when his gaze landed on me. It seemed to linger for quite a while.
“And may the odds be in our favor for years and years.”
The whole hall erupted into applause and cheers. Callen had that charisma in him. He could draw the attention of a room effortlessly. He had the looks for it too.
I could never talk to him though. The Alpha wasn’t someone who would bother talking with the likes of me. As much as it hurt to think about it, I would have to be content with admiring him from a distance.
I let out a sigh and made my way to the food table. I grabbed a glass of wine and brought the cup to my lips.
“Yes, I agree to be your mate.”
I turned back just in time to watch a couple’s mating bond blossom. The man was staring at his partner with love in his eyes.
He pulled her closer to him and placed a kiss on her lips. The whole room awed at their heartwarming display.
As happy as I was for them, it was hard to ignore the pang in my chest as I thought about how I was yet to find one.
I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up not able to get one. I was nothing but the unwanted omega of Dark Silver Pack that nobody wanted.
Just as I was about to walk away, I bumped into someone. I watched with horror as the drink spilled on another woman’s shirt.
“What the actual fuck?” She yelled, anger in her eyes.
“I—I’m so s—sorry. I—”
“Can you stop stuttering, you retarded fool? Why the hell did you spill your drink on me? You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”
She was fuming with anger and I was getting the bad feeling that things were about to get ugly. I could feel my heart beating fast against my chest. My whole body seemed to shake with fear.
“What’s going on here?”
I turned to see Alpha Callen staring at us. My heart beat skyrocketed as I stared back at him.
“This foolish omega spilled her drink on me.”
I expected him to start berating me but he remained silent, his sole gaze fixed on me. I found myself unable to look away as well. All eyes were fixed on us but I didn’t care. All I could think of was Callen.
My whole body began to feel hot and it was like all my senses had gone on autopilot. My eyes widened as the realization dawned on me.
Mate.
This was finally it. I’d finally found my mate after all these years of waiting. The day had finally arrived.
I expected to see some kind of reaction on his face but all I got was a cold, impassive look. That was—odd. Did he not feel anything?
“You’re my mate.” The words left my mouth before I could hold back.
His expression tightened at those words. I did not expect the look of disgust that crept onto his face.
He let out a frustrated sigh and stepped closer to me. The girl wasn’t ranting anymore but I didn’t care for any of that. I was only focused on Callen.
“This must be some cruel joke by the moon goddess.”
It felt like someone had kicked me right in the stomach. I never expected to hear those words come from his mouth.
“I—I don’t—” I bit on my lip, trying to force the tears down. All eyes were fixed on me and I could feel the judgement in their stares.
“I think this has gone on long enough so I’ll save you the stress.”
He closed the distance between us. He was so close that I could feel the warmth of his body. His eyes however were icy and emotionless.
“I, Callen Everdeen, reject you as my mate and Luna.”
The pain was unbearable. My heart had just been ripped into a thousand pieces. Callen didn’t look one bit remorseful. I could feel my body shutting down as black spots dotted my vision.
“You can go ahead and die for all I care.”
Those were the last words I heard before collapsing into the darkness
Lana’s POVWarren’s words continued to echo in my head as I glared at him.As far as my pack is concerned, you belong to me now. He’d made his claim on me and I knew I dare not speak back. He was the Alpha of this pack and it wouldn’t take him much to tear me apart if he wanted to.Still, I couldn’t take this. I’d never felt as helpless as I did, just standing there before him.I stood frozen, my mind reeling. I couldn’t believe the position I was in. Warren was watching me with that same unreadable expression. His piercing eyes were holding me in place as if he could trap my thoughts with just a look.“So?” he drawled, his voice low and dangerous. “Are we clear on the terms?”I swallowed hard, every instinct screaming at me to fight back. I wanted to claw my way out of this trap, but what other options did I have? He was right. I’d come too far to give up now, not when I was so close to getting my revenge on Callen. I clenched my fists, trying to suppress the tremble in my hands.“F
Lana’s POVWarren watched me for what felt like eternity. My life was in his hands and whatever he decided would determine whether he killed me or not. After a long while, he finally spoke. “Get up.” “How do I know I can trust you?” His eyes narrowed on me. “For all I know you could be a spy.”“If I ever give you a reason not to trust me, then go ahead and do as you like.” I said, letting out a breath. His eyes remained on me for a while. I could see it. He was weighing the possibilities, deciding whether or not it would be good to trust me or not. After a while, he let out a breath. His eyes flickered all around us, fleeting from one tree to the other. His lips pulled down to a frown.“We’ll continue this talk. Not here.” He turned to me. “Come with me.”He began to move without another word. I tightened my grip on my bag. “You coming or what?” Warren glared at me. “I’m coming,” I squeaked, hurrying after him.We kept walking for a while and I tried to put as much distance as I co
Lana’s P.O.VMy heart pounded fast against my chest as I waited for the eventual snap of the rogue’s jaws around my neck. This was it. This was where I would finally take my last breath. Before I even realized it, tears had begun to fall down my cheeks.I didn’t want this to be it. I still had so much I wanted to fight for. I was still yet to get my revenge. Just when I felt the rogue’s jaws closing in, a loud howl pierced through the forest. Everybody froze.I dared to open my eyes, wondering who could have made that sound. The rogue that had been about to kill me turned back to see where the sound had come from.A smooth, commanding growl echoed from the shadows of trees a small distance away from us. All of a sudden, a large dark wolf walked in. His fur was as dark as midnight and his eyes were fixed on us.The rogues visibly stiffened as they glared at this new wolf. Some of them even whined, slowly backing away.Only their leader still had that stubborn glare in his eyes. He wou
LANA’S POVMy eyes felt like weights had been placed on them. It took quite some time before I was finally able to force them open.I looked around at my surroundings, blinking away the fatigue from my eyes. My eyes hurt so bad and I wanted nothing more than to go back to sleep. The memories of the previous day began to rush into me. As if on instinct, a deep stabbing pain hit my chest. The mate bond between me and Callen had been severed when he uttered those words of rejection.“So I fainted, huh?” I mumbled to myselfI would never forget the looks on the pack members face. Mocking, demeaning and most of all, scornful. No doubt, they were glad he rejected me yesterday. He’d made it pretty clear that he could never be with a weak, useless omega like me and I would just have to accept that. Still, it didn’t change the fact that a part of me had been broken forever. Callen had destroyed me with those words and I feared I would never be the same again.I touched my cheek. It felt wet.“
