Blake’s POV I woke up the next day to see the bed empty. I thought she was in the bathroom at first, but it was too quiet, and then I realised she was actually gone. Maybe she didn't like my “services”? That was impossible though because I'd never had any complaints from any woman that I’ve ever been with. Or maybe she was too embarrassed to face me this morning. I turned, then stopped as I saw a wad of cash on the bed beside me. I chuckled in disbelief, as I counted the money, then dropped it back, still staring at it and wondering what had gotten into me last night. When my friends had forced me to go clubbing with them last night, I hadn’t expected to run into such an odd woman who completely fascinated me. She really paid me for my services…she really thought I was a male escort. I wasn't offended, just amused that she actually kept her end of the deal even when she could have run away. My phone started ringing, drawing me out of my thoughts. Fuck, I groaned. Time to face reality. I picked my pants up, my eyes drifting to the empty chair where my shirt should have been. A chuckle escaped my lips as I realised she'd taken my shirt with her. Normally this would have annoyed me, but there was something about her that amused and enchanted me. “Get me a change of clothes and tell Tucker to cancel all my morning and afternoon appointments.” I said to my driver over the phone. “Tell him to meet me at the new site in an hour too.” I walked into the building of the F1 racing team I had recently acquired to get my foot into the racing world, but instead of thinking about business, my mind was still on her. I could swear I was hearing her voice too, but that couldn't be right. Tucker was in the middle of a conversation with a woman, and I heard the tail end of it, but something about the conversation rubbed me the wrong way. I frowned, heading towards them when they both turned to me, and I slowed down, rooted to the floor in shock. For a second I wondered if I was finally going insane, but then I saw the recognition in her eyes as she stared back at me, and I knew she was the one. Her face drained of colour before flushing red with embarrassment. “I’m sorry,” she muttered quickly. “I shouldn’t have come here.” and with that she practically fled the building, not realising that her phone had fallen out of her bag. “You left your—” Tucker started, but I silenced him with a wave of my hand, and before I could second guess my actions, I picked up the phone and hurried after her, but before I could stop her she was already in a cab speeding off. “I’ll be right back,” I said to my driver, grabbing my keys and pulling my Ferrari out onto the road without waiting for a response. I told myself I was just returning her phone, but I knew I was just lying to myself. I followed the cab until it stopped in front of a vintage two storey building, parking across the street as I watched her walk to the front door. I followed her, and I was about to knock and go in as well, but then what I heard made me pause in shock. My grip tightened around the phone in my hand as the pieces fell together. That's why she looked like that yesterday, and even after that, she still kept all her money for me? Someone like her didn't deserve these people in her life. The conversation continued, then her husband’s voice cut through the air. “Guards!” I was a pro at minding my own business, but no matter how hard I wanted to look the other way, I had gone too far to pretend that this wasn’t my business as well. “Let her go.” I said, standing in their path. Two men turned toward me, surprised. “Who the hell are you?” one of them snapped. I didn't bother giving him an answer, I grabbed him by the collar and lifted him off the ground for a few seconds, watching as fear registered in his eyes, before throwing him aside. He hit the floor hard and didn’t get back up. The second one lunged at me, but I kicked him hard in his groin and after a few punches, he crumpled against the wall. Derek shot to his feet, anger written all over his face. What the hell do you think you’re doing? Do you know who I am? How dare you walk into this house uninvited and beat up my guards? I’m friends with the Chief of Police, and I will have you locked up for this.” “Perfect,” I said calmly. “You can explain to him why you assaulted your wife for asking for a divorce.” I turned away from him and walked to Arya. She was pressed against the wall, breathing hard, her eyes glassy with shock. “Are you okay?” I asked, my hands cupping her face before I could stop myself. “So that’s why you want a divorce? You had a lover all along?” the woman who I assumed was Arya's sister asked mockingly. “You've always been a hypocrite, but I never thought you would be capable of this.” “Yes, he's my lover. And I was with him all night too. Since it's obvious this marriage is over between us, sign the divorce papers.” Arya said, glaring at her sister and husband. “You’re not leaving. No matter what you say, you're still my wife. You belong to me.” Derek warned. “I’d like to see you stop us,” I said quietly, and with that, I grabbed Arya's hand and walked her to my car. I noticed that she didn't resist my touch, but I didn't say anything until we were safely in the car. “You dropped this.” I finally broke the silence, handing her phone to her. “Thanks,” she murmured, staring out the window. I could tell she didn't want to talk, so I drove in silence, trying to ignore my own racing thoughts as I pulled up in front of a hotel. She looked up at the hotel, then turned to glare at me. “What do you take me for?” she snapped. “What!?” I asked in confusion. “If this is about last night, then I’m sorry for misleading you. I was in a bad place and did something I shouldn't have, but I'm not—” She broke off her words, glaring at me as I chuckled in amusement. “You think I brought you here for that?” She hesitated. “Didn’t you?” “And what if I did?” I asked, meeting her eyes. Her breath hitched, a blush creeping onto her face. I smiled slightly. “That’s what I thought.”Chapter 165Arya’s POVThe roar of engines filling the air, the vibration beneath my feet, the sharp scent of fuel in the air, the relentless rush of adrenaline that coiled tighter with every passing second as I watched the cars zoom past me. I had missed the Grand Prix.Everything I had been working towards in the past few weeks was hanging on this moment. The only thing I could think about at that moment was the race, the performance of the cars I had worked on, and the finish line. Nothing else was as important as this right now.“Come on…” I murmured under my breath, my fingers curling slightly against my sides as the final lap began, my heart beating faster in sync with the accelerating cars, every second stretching thin with anticipation.Beside me, the team was tense and nervous, their voices overlapping, but I could barely pay attention to what they were saying because my eyes were locked on the cars. One second we were behind, but then there was a turn and the car glided sm
Chapter 164Arya’s POVMy office door opened and Derek walked in holding a bouquet of flowers in one hand and a box of chocolates in the other, and as I watched him, I could not help but feel a little bit of irony at the situation.Because five years ago, this gesture would have been enough for me to fall for him. I would have thought him doing all this really meant he loved me, but now I could see through his performance, and looking at him, I felt nothing more than a hint of amusement and entertainment.“Arya,” he said warmly, his lips curving into a practiced smile as he approached my desk, placing the flowers and chocolates carefully on the table. I glanced at the huge roses briefly, trying to hide my disgust. We were together for three years and he still never figured out that I hated roses. Taking my eyes off the flowers, I looked back at him, forcing my lips to curve into a slight smile.“What are you doing here?” I asked in a cool, dismissive tone.Instead of answering me, h
Chapter 163Arya’s POVI sighed as I walked out of the conference room with a file tucked neatly against my chest, my mind filled with thoughts of all the work I needed to get done before the grand Prix. I missed when all I had to do was work on cars, now I had to handle unending meetings and office politics and a lot of things that I had no interest in doing. I had barely taken a few steps when I bumped into someone, but before I could fall flat on my ass, strong hands clamped onto my arms, steadying me. “Sorry,” I said automatically, taking a few steps back, my voice steady even as my pulse stuttered faintly in my chest. But when I looked up… the apology died on my tongue.Blake.For a moment, neither of us moved as we stared at each other. It had been a week of avoiding him, which had been quite easy considering the fact that we worked in the same building. And maybe because I finally let my guard down, I had to go and bump into him.The hallway around us carried on as though not
Chapter 162Arya’s POVI pulled into the parking lot of the bar the address the bartender had given me led me to, looking around in surprise and confusion. With its dim lights and graffiti painted walls, this was the last place I was expecting Blake to go drinking, especially with how unsafe it looked.I parked as fast as I could and ran into the bar, trying and failing to ignore the scent of alcohol, sweat, and smoke that filled the air.My eyes scanned the room for a few seconds before landing on Blake who was slumped over a counter, motionless. For a moment, I just stood there watching him. It didn't feel real, Blake was never the kind of person that would do this to himself. This version of him — disheveled, undone, stripped of the control and composure he carried so effortlessly — felt like something I wasn’t meant to see, something no one was supposed to see.“Are you Arya?” the bartender asked as I walked to the counter, standing next to Blake.“Yes.” I nodded, and she let out
Chapter 161Arya’s POVI sat in my study with the dim glow of the lamp casting soft shadows across the walls, I found myself staring at nothing in particular, my mind circling around what had happened this evening over and over again.Everything had changed…. Or at least it felt like it had.“I’m telling you, it doesn’t change anything,” Milo’s voice cut through my thoughts, and I could hear the frustration in his voice as he tried to convince me.I leaned back slightly in my chair, exhaling slowly as I dragged my fingers through my hair, the strands catching between them.“It does,” I murmured, but I didn't really believe what I was saying because my mind was still a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions that I didn't have the strength to sort out right now. “It changes everything.”Milo shook his head almost immediately walking closer and leaning against the table so that our eyes would be at the same level.“No, Arya,” he said, his tone softening slightly. “Believe me, it doesn’t.”I
Chapter 160Blake’s POVI watched Arya handle her children, smiling and laughing with them as she put them in the car and drove away. Knowing that this could have been us, knowing that my family was the reason why we ended up this way… the betrayal was fresh. The sound of the car driving away lingered long after it had disappeared beyond the gates, and I stood where I was, rooted to the ground and reeling from the discovery. My mother stood a few steps away, her hands trembling slightly, her expression caught somewhere between regret and fear, and the more I stared at her, the less I could recognise the person who was standing in front of me.I trusted her… I trusted her without any questions. But I had no idea who she was anymore. This was not the person who raised me, it couldn't be.“Blake—” she took a shaky step towards me, her hands coming up like she wanted to though me, but I shifted back, my face filled with disgust.“How long?” My voice cut through her words. My voice was low
Chapter 49Arya’s POV“This isn't working,” I thought to myself as I stared at the iPad I was working on. I had been staring at the same curve on my screen for nearly ten minutes, but my mind stubbornly refused to settle even though my hands continued to work out of habit. The car design in front
Chapter 48Blake’s POVIt's ironic really, the last person I thought I would be asking for help, and this was the second time in as many months I was reaching out.Arya’s face refused to leave my mind all day, not the composed version she showed the world, but the way she stood her ground even when
Chapter 47 Arya’s POV I was already used to the stares and whispers that followed me whenever I got to the workshop, so I wasn't even surprised anymore when it happened. For the first few days they had cut deeply, but now they were just… noise. Ugly, persistent noise that I had neither the en
Chapter 46Blake’s POVI don't like losing control. My ability to think three steps ahead, to anticipate consequences before they unfolded, to keep my emotions neatly leashed no matter how volatile the situation became, was the one thing I prided myself on.But tonight my control over my emotions w
