Chapter 0006

Carol looked into the mirror and saw the bite mark on her neck. The man in the bar had left it!

She opened her mouth to explain herself but decided against it. Kieran would not listen, anyway.

Carol met his enraged glare and answered with a scoff. “Yeah. A man bit me. So? Are you going to stop me from looking for male companions? What did you say when we got married? Wasn’t it that we won’t interfere with each other’s lives? You have no right to interfere with my life, understand? Look at yourself! Look at how many bites that woman left on your neck!”

She then shoved Kieran away, shut the door, and went downstairs.

Once the door swung shut, Carol’s world returned to its peaceful state.

Mrs. Oceane went up to her at that moment. Her heart went out for Carol, so she comforted her by saying, “Madam, it’s horrible the way Mr. Kieran treats you. You should tell the master about it.”

“It’s fine, Mrs. Oceane. It’s late. You should go to sleep.”

“What about you?”

“I’ll stay at a hotel.”

She then headed out.

Once she got into the car, she put her clothes on the passenger seat and looked at the window of the second floor’s bedroom. Sadness flashed momentarily in her eyes.

Then, she stepped on the gas pedal and drove out of the residential area.

Soon after Carol left, Kieran chased the woman out of the bed. “Get dressed and leave! Remember, you’re not allowed to tell anyone about what happened tonight. If you do, I’ll make sure you won’t be able to stay in Northvale!”

Ember Green immediately nodded. “Don’t worry, Mr. Kieran. I won’t tell a single soul about it. Don’t be mad. I can still continue taking care of your needs.”

Kieran gave her a scornful look, then threw his keys at her. “F*ck off!”

Kieran was clearly mad, so Ember grabbed the keys, put on her clothes, and left dejectedly.

Meanwhile, Kieran started smoking in front of the floor-to-ceiling window. When he remembered the disdain in Carol’s eyes and the bite mark on her neck, he felt frustrated.

Carol drove to a hotel near the company.

She was quite the clean freak. Every time she went on a business trip, she brought her own pajamas and even her own blanket.

Part of it was because she hated white.

Every time she laid on white bed sheets and covered herself with a white blanket, a certain scene from a morgue would come to the forefront of her mind. It would cause her such pain that she could not breathe.

It was a trauma from the time her parents passed away when she was just a child.

They got into a car crash, and the doctors could not save them.

When the doctors pushed them out of the emergency room, they were covered head to toe with white cloth.

From then on, Carol could not accept anything that was completely white.

Hence, after she took a bath and changed into her pink pajamas, she laid down on the couch.

She was plagued by nightmares the entire night.

Carol saw the man she had run into in Uptown Bar’s room. She dreamed of him biting her neck. Then, he opened his mouth wide, and it was covered in blood. His handsome face and his wickedly charming eyes made him look like a vampire.

He showed up repeatedly in her dreams and refused to leave.

Because of it, Carol woke up listless the next day.

After she changed into an all-black work suit, she threw the bloodstained work suit into the trash can to chase away her bad luck. She hoped that she would never dream of that man again.

……

When Carol arrived at the company, Kieran mocked her again.

But she was already used to it, so she chose to ignore it.

Two days later, Kieran summoned her into his office and threw two contracts at her.

“Aren’t you really good? Seal the deal with Magnifique! Remember, Abner Corporation gets 70%, and they get 30%. Make sure they sign the contract!”
