Chapter 1.

Freda's POV.

"Get me, Freda Anderson now," I heard the chief physician yell from his office. I was already at his office door and was about to knock. I knew I was in trouble due to the incident that happened earlier, so I had to bring myself to his office before he would tell Vivian to do so.

A patient nearly lost her life due to a lack of the medication my team was supposed to administer to her.

I had earlier smelled there would be a big problem because of it and as usual, I would be blamed. I'm always to be blamed whenever anything goes wrong with my team even though I'm not the head of my team, I was the least important person among them.

I stretched forth my hand to knock on the door but on a second thought, I retreated my hand and took a deep breath.

I knew he would yell and say hurtful things as usual and after that, I would cry in the restroom whenever he was done yelling at me.

I knew that today won't be any different from other days but I still put up a smile, ready to face it as I had always done.

I finally made up my mind to go right in to face him, I was already getting used to his behavior towards me, it wasn't a new thing. I stretched forth my hand at the count of six but before my hand could grasp the door handle, it opened.

I looked up, my eyes met with that of Vivian Donaldson, she had a smile on her lips as usual, she was also on my team and had been a thorn in my flesh, whenever it got to her turn to attend to the patients assigned to us, she would always neglect her duties and have all the blames put on me.

I couldn't blame her much, she was the Chief physician's Mistress and sweetheart. Every one of us knew about it.

"Oh wow! Guess who is here already. I think she knows that she had made her usual mistake again and surprisingly, this time, she didn't even wait for anyone to invite her over before she showed up," she said to me with a mocking smile.

I was already boiling inside of me but I dare not show it if I don't want to worsen the situation.

"Hey Vivian, is Mr. Adams in?" I asked and pretended like I didn't hear what she had said.

"Of course, I was about to come to look for you but I think it's best as you show up yourself. You can come right in," she said and moved away from the door.

I didn't say anything else and walked in, she closed the door and joined me. We silently started heading towards Adam's desk, it was at the end of his large office. I could hear her murmur offensive words but I acted like I wasn't hearing anything, I acted unperturbed and undisturbed.

I acted like I wasn't scared nor bothered about what I was going to face but within me, I was already shivering and praying that someone would save me from going through another series of hurtful words which would leave me shattered and emotionally down again.

I didn't want to break down at this period of my life.

As we got closer to his desk, I saw him sitting down while flipping through some documents, scattered on his desk.

"Good day Mr. Adams," I said as we approached his desk. I bowed my head, avoiding his eyes.

"What is good about the day, you lousy doctor? Like I had always said, you ain't supposed to be in the medical field. The likes of you are supposed to live in the streets, running small kiosks or begging to feed, that's the kind of circumstances life is supposed to put you in," he said in his usual arrogant voice.

I felt myself shaking that instant like I always do, I couldn't even put myself together to swallow what he had said. I thought I was strong enough to do so today but I was wrong, I still felt so hurt like I always do on other days.

"I'm sorry for what happened, I wasn't the one in charge of the patient who almost lost her life, " I remembered Mrs. Smith putting Vivian in charge of her. I had to go attend to other pati_"

"Shut up, you liar," he yelled and that instant, I heard Vivian smirk. I looked up at her and saw a victorious smile on her face.

This made me remember the day, she promised to make my life hell here all because she did something wrong and I refused to take the blame. I bet she was already on it, fulfilling her promise.

"Why do you have to keep on lying and looking for excuses all the time, Freda?" Mr. Adams asked me.

"I'm not lying Sir, you can ask Mrs. Smith_"

"Keep quiet and never dare to interrupt me whenever I'm talking if you don't want to be kicked out of this hospital," he yelled with anger.

I swallowed hard and looked away.

"Vivian was with me all through the day, she was helping me sort out way more important documents. How dare you drag her into this?" He thundered.

I kept quiet, refusing to talk to say anything in defense. I knew he was lying but I couldn't do anything to defend myself, he was the boss and I'm just a mere employee.

"You have failed to do your duty today too. This is not the first time nor the second or the third. I have to punish you this time, so you don't joke with any patient assigned to you," he voiced out.

"But sir_" I tried to say when I couldn't hold anymore.

"Allow me to finish," he said and glared at me. I looked down and kept quiet.

"Half of your salary for this month will be deducted and for two weeks, you are restricted from working, you will not treat nor take care of any patient. All you will have to do is to clean and assist other doctors," he said and passed me a paper immediately.

As I heard his words, I was shocked and perplexed. I looked up at him with shaky hands.

"He cannot derive me from what I love most. Treating and caring for my patients myself is my priority," I reminded myself and immediately went on my knees.

"Sir please, I cannot bear the punishment. You can have all my salary but don't restrict me from carrying out my duties," I said to him.

"No, my decision is final. I have already signed the document regarding your punishment as evidence," Mr. Adams said and continued flipping through the documents on his desk.

There were already tears in my eyes, I tried to say something but nothing came out of my mouth. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and put myself together.

"But sir_" I tried to say when I found my word. He didn't let me finish before yelling at me to get out of his office.

"Right now, get out, you idiot," he repeated.

I turned and didn't bother to say anything further, I couldn't also look at Vivian but her mocking laughter echoed in the office as I hurried out of Mr, Adams's office.

I rushed into the restroom as usual to cry my eyes out.
