Chapter 1

Author: Blue Carberry
After I returned to my room, I gathered every document and ID I needed and packed them into my bag.

I was getting ready to withdraw from school.

My dad, David, sighed and said the same thing he always did. "Amy, why did you have the driver take you to school? I told you I'd make it up to you after you gave your spot to Chloe..."

I didn't turn around or answer him.

I just gripped my bag tighter and walked faster.

By the time I reached the front door, the driver had already pulled the car around.

After David saw me get in, he followed me into the car.

I knew he was worried about me.

But more than that, he was probably afraid I'd do something reckless and ruin Chloe's guaranteed admission.

I laughed bitterly to myself but said nothing.

The car fell into an uncomfortable silence.

After a while, David spoke softly, "Amy, you're an adult now. You need to be more mature and learn to give in to Chloe. I was the one who decided to give her the guaranteed admission spot this time. You always wanted to see Ed Sheeran in concert, right? I managed to get you front-row VIP tickets. So please, stop making a fuss, okay?"

But I had never been a fan of Ed Sheeran. Chloe was the one who wanted to see him.

I dug my fingernails into my palm until the pain made it hard to breathe.

"Pull over!" I ordered in a hoarse voice.

The driver froze and glanced at David.

"Pull over now!" I raised my voice and reached for the door lock.

The car hadn't even fully stopped when I pushed the door open and jumped out.

I only wanted to get away. I didn't notice the motorcycle coming down the road.

Before I could react, David grabbed me and pulled me back.

His arm was cut in the process. The wound was deep, with torn flesh showing. It looked awful.

He looked at me in panic and asked, "Amy, are you okay? Are you hurt?"

My heart suddenly ached.

I was just about to ask if he was okay when I heard him say, "If only you were half as sensible as Chloe. I'd be so relieved. Go back and apologize to her. She's such a good girl, and you made her cry."

I pulled my arm out of his hand slowly.

When he saw that I still wasn't reacting, his patience began to run out. "Amy, are you listening to me? It's just one guaranteed admission spot. You've always been willing to give in to Chloe. Why are you throwing such a tantrum over this?"

Always?

I could only laugh bitterly inside.

My room, my father, even the things my mother gave me—if Chloe wanted any of them, I was expected to hand them over.

And if I refused, I was the one who was called selfish and immature.

"Amy, look. We can protect you. No one will ever hurt you again. Please come home with us."I looked at Alex's bleeding hand, but I still refused. They had always waited until after hurting me to try to make things right. But by then, it was already too late.I repeated myself, my voice even firmer than before, "No. I'm not the same Amy who used to wait for your love anymore. I have my own design studio here. I have my own friends, and I have the life I want. I don't need to go back, and I don't need you to make things up to me."Lucas's eyes turned red with panic. "Amy, are you still angry with us? You can hit me or yell at me if you want. Just please don't abandon us..."I looked at him calmly. "None of that matters anymore. I used to blame you. I blamed you for playing favorites. I blamed you for accusing me without knowing the truth. I blamed you for destroying all the hopes I had. But I don't blame you anymore, because you don't matter to me anymore."David's body swayed, and his

The moment he saw me, his eyes suddenly turned red. They had still come looking for me.I stood on the steps and looked at them. His eyes were already red.Alex took a step forward. His voice trembled as he tried to hold back his emotions. She was my mother, Scarlett Sandham.I tried to open my eyes, but I couldn't.I could only vaguely feel someone pulling me into her arms and calling my name repeatedly in a tearful voice. "Amy, don't be scared. Mom's here."In my confusion, I heard David's panicked voice, along with the shocked sounds of Alex and Lucas. When I woke up again, I was lying in a hospital bed.All I could smell was disinfectant. The back of my head throbbed with pain, and I had an IV in my hand.Scarlett was sitting beside my bed with swollen, tearful eyes. When she saw that I was finally awake, she immediately leaned closer and asked softly, "Amy, you're finally awake. Do you feel okay? Does anything hurt?"I shook my head, but my throat was dry and sore. "Mom..."Scarlett touched my forehead, and her eyes grew even redder. "As long as you're okay. The doctor said you passed out because of a mild concussion, heat exhaustion, and dehydration. Why did you have to push yourself this far just to argue with the

They were so frightened that they quickly stepped in front of her. "What are you doing? Put the knife down!"I laughed coldly. "If I actually stabbed her, then you could call me extreme."I twisted my wrist and smiled as I pressed the knife against my own neck. "I don't want to talk about this anymore. Move! I'm leaving."They panicked at once. They wanted to stop me, but they were too afraid that I might hurt myself."Okay. I'll have the driver take you wherever you want to go. Just put the knife down. Don't hurt yourself."I picked up my suitcase and took a few steps. Then Alex noticed the things I had thrown into the trash. There was a birthday cake model he had made for me himself, a limited-edition collectible figure, and a scarf David had knitted for me on one of my birthdays. His voice was angry, but there was also a hint of panic. "Amy, this is too much! How could you throw all of this away?"I stopped and answered calmly. "I'm already someone who doesn't matter to you. So what

I roughly wiped my face and walked straight into the house.Just then, Chloe suddenly acted as if she had only just noticed me. She ran over with an apologetic look and grabbed my arm. "Amy, this is all my fault. I can give the spot back to you. Please don't fight with Dad anymore."Her fake, tearful voice made my stomach turn.I casually shook her off.She let out a cry and collapsed to the floor. Her arm started bleeding too.Lucas heard the noise and rushed over in a panic.Alex rushed over at the same time and shoved me away.I wasn't prepared for it, and the back of my head slammed into the doorframe. I felt a little dizzy and could only vaguely hear him scolding me. "Amy, you've gone too far!"Lucas held Chloe protectively and glared at me. "Apologize to Chloe right now! How could you hurt someone over a stupid admission spot?"I touched the back of my head, then casually wiped the blood from my hand.I laughed coldly. "Haha. She took something that belonged to me, and now she'
