Chapter 2

Auteur: Blue Carberry
This time, I simply didn't want to give in to Chloe anymore. I couldn't understand why it was my fault again.

I didn't want to argue anymore, so I turned around and walked across the street. A car ran a red light and nearly hit me.

David quickly pulled me back. His eyes were red, and even his voice was shaking. "Are you okay? Did you get scared? Does anything hurt?"

But the more worried he sounded, the worse I felt.

Seeing him looking so shaken and scared made me want to cry.

I quickly turned my head so he wouldn't see my tears.

I couldn't let myself look at him or let myself soften.

I forcefully pulled my arm free and took a step back to put some distance between us. "You don't have to follow me. I'm just going to school. I'm not going to ruin Chloe's future."

David looked stunned when he heard that, but I could still see the relief in his eyes.

I gave a bitter laugh and kept walking toward the street to hail a cab.

He quickly realized what I was doing and angrily asked, "You're just throwing a tantrum. Our car is right here. Why do you have to take a cab?"

I didn't want to sit in the same car as him, so I pulled away when he reached for me.

He clenched his fingers and sighed. "I just want our family to get along. Why can't you understand that? I've taken care of you since you were little. Don't you know how much I love you?"

I suddenly found it almost funny. But I still couldn't stop my tears.

I stubbornly turned my head away and asked through a choked voice, "If you love me so much, then you must know how long I've been preparing for this spot. So why did you give my spot to Chloe?"

He froze for a moment before forcing out an explanation. "Amy, it's different. Chloe is our adopted daughter. All I can do is give her a head start. From now on, she'll still have to make her own way. But you'll always be our little princess. We'll take care of you for the rest of your life. You don't have anything to worry about."

Chloe was the adopted daughter, yet she was treated like the biological child.

I was the biological daughter, yet I was always expected to give in to Chloe.

I wiped away my tears and laughed.

All that love and attention had once belonged to me, before she came into our family.

Back then, David didn't trust the nanny to take care of me. He took me everywhere he went. No matter how late his business dinners ran, he always came home to read me a bedtime story. Every day, he personally drove me to school and picked me up afterward.

Even when he had important board meetings, he would let me sit in the chair beside him.

Everyone knew how much he spoiled me.

But now, all he could do was tell me how hard Chloe's childhood had been and ask me to give in to her.

To him, my questions were proof that I planned to cause trouble at school and refused to let Chloe have what she wanted.

"Let's go home first!" He didn't care about how I felt.

Then he firmly pulled me toward the car. "Please, stop making this such a big deal. Whatever you want this time, I'll make it up to you... Besides, Chloe will be moving out soon. You won't have to..."

I didn't want to hear his empty promises anymore, so I quietly took out my earbuds, put them in, and turned the volume all the way up.

As soon as the car stopped in front of our house, David pulled me out.

The moment Chloe saw his injured arm, her eyes turned red.

She ran over and threw her arms around him, crying. "Dad, why are you hurt? You're bleeding so much! Does it hurt? We need to go inside and clean the wound. Do you need a shot? What if you get tetanus? That would be terrible..."

My older brother, Alex, followed behind her. He looked at David's wound and frowned as he blamed me. "Amy, you're old enough to know better. Why did you run away from home? How did Dad get hurt? Can't you just learn to..."

I gave him a cold look and slammed the car door shut. "This has nothing to do with me!"

I turned around and was about to walk inside when I saw Alex standing between me and Chloe.

My heart sank.

Only when a tear rolled down my cheek did I realize that I was already crying.

"Amy, look. We can protect you. No one will ever hurt you again. Please come home with us."I looked at Alex's bleeding hand, but I still refused. They had always waited until after hurting me to try to make things right. But by then, it was already too late.I repeated myself, my voice even firmer than before, "No. I'm not the same Amy who used to wait for your love anymore. I have my own design studio here. I have my own friends, and I have the life I want. I don't need to go back, and I don't need you to make things up to me."Lucas's eyes turned red with panic. "Amy, are you still angry with us? You can hit me or yell at me if you want. Just please don't abandon us..."I looked at him calmly. "None of that matters anymore. I used to blame you. I blamed you for playing favorites. I blamed you for accusing me without knowing the truth. I blamed you for destroying all the hopes I had. But I don't blame you anymore, because you don't matter to me anymore."David's body swayed, and his

A bad feeling suddenly came over me.When I walked outside, I saw three men standing in front of the studio.David's hair had almost completely turned gray, and his back was slightly hunched. He no longer looked like the confident man he used to be.Alex was wearing a perfectly pressed suit, but it couldn't hide how tired he looked. Dark circles hung under his eyes.Lucas stood behind them, nervously rubbing his hands together. The moment he saw me, his eyes suddenly turned red. They had still come looking for me.I stood on the steps and looked at them. My heart was so calm that even I was surprised. They felt like strangers.David finally spoke in a hoarse voice, "Amy..."He only managed to say my name before his voice broke. His eyes were already red.Alex took a step forward. His voice trembled as he tried to hold back his emotions. "Amy, we've been looking for you for three years."Lucas's eyes immediately filled with tears. He started speaking so quickly th

I leaned against my pillow and said calmly, "I want to go with Mom."The day I was discharged from the hospital, Scarlett took me straight home to pack my things.David, Alex, and Lucas followed us around, begging me to stay.David said he would kick Chloe out of the house immediately and give the admission spot back to me. She was my mother, Scarlett Sandham.I tried to open my eyes, but I couldn't.I could only vaguely feel someone pulling me into her arms and calling my name repeatedly in a tearful voice. "Amy, don't be scared. Mom's here."In my confusion, I heard David's panicked voice, along with the shocked sounds of Alex and Lucas. When I woke up again, I was lying in a hospital bed.All I could smell was disinfectant. The back of my head throbbed with pain, and I had an IV in my hand.Scarlett was sitting beside my bed with swollen, tearful eyes. When she saw that I was finally awake, she immediately leaned closer and asked softly, "Amy, you're finally awake. Do you feel okay? Does anything hurt?"I shook my head, but my throat was dry and sore. "Mom..."Scarlett touched my forehead, and her eyes grew even redder. "As long as you're okay. The doctor said you passed out because of a mild concussion, heat exhaustion, and dehydration. Why did you have to push yourself this far just to argue with the

They were so frightened that they quickly stepped in front of her. "What are you doing? Put the knife down!"I laughed coldly. "If I actually stabbed her, then you could call me extreme."I twisted my wrist and smiled as I pressed the knife against my own neck. "I don't want to talk about this anymore. Move! I'm leaving."They panicked at once. They wanted to stop me, but they were too afraid that I might hurt myself."Okay. I'll have the driver take you wherever you want to go. Just put the knife down. Don't hurt yourself."I picked up my suitcase and took a few steps. Then Alex noticed the things I had thrown into the trash. There was a birthday cake model he had made for me himself, a limited-edition collectible figure, and a scarf David had knitted for me on one of my birthdays. His voice was angry, but there was also a hint of panic. "Amy, this is too much! How could you throw all of this away?"I stopped and answered calmly. "I'm already someone who doesn't matter to you. So what

I roughly wiped my face and walked straight into the house.Just then, Chloe suddenly acted as if she had only just noticed me. She ran over with an apologetic look and grabbed my arm. "Amy, this is all my fault. I can give the spot back to you. Please don't fight with Dad anymore."Her fake, tearful voice made my stomach turn.I casually shook her off.She let out a cry and collapsed to the floor. Her arm started bleeding too.Lucas heard the noise and rushed over in a panic.Alex rushed over at the same time and shoved me away.I wasn't prepared for it, and the back of my head slammed into the doorframe. I felt a little dizzy and could only vaguely hear him scolding me. "Amy, you've gone too far!"Lucas held Chloe protectively and glared at me. "Apologize to Chloe right now! How could you hurt someone over a stupid admission spot?"I touched the back of my head, then casually wiped the blood from my hand.I laughed coldly. "Haha. She took something that belonged to me, and now she'
