Kat Holland and her Mom Valerie have had a rough few years. Kats Dad Allen died in a car accident three years ago. Valerie is a successful lawyer and has had no problem providing for Kat and herself but it has left Kat home alone more. 

Kat is a good student with a 4.0 GPA and has never been in trouble. She doesn't have very many friends though. She would much rather be with her best friend Allie than out at parties, so when Allie begged Kat to attend a party that Zane and Zander Whitmore were throwing Kat was reluctant to go. Her Mom would not approve. 

Allie Trainer was Kats best friend since childhood. Allie was more outgoing than Kat and wanted to fit in. She knew Kat hated parties but just once wanted her to try it out before their senior year. She knew Kat would give in and go in the end and that she did.
