Feel-Good Story

I've just recently found out that I was switched at birth. Anthony Jefferson, the person who was raised in my place, and I end up joining an academic game show together—but he encourages everyone to ostracize me. "Sorry, Noah, but everyone on our team has a postgraduate degree. I don't think you'll fit in with us," Anthony says. Immediately, all the other contestants refuse to form a team with me. In fact, scathing remarks about me flood the internet, making me go viral. "Why did a brainless pretty boy like Noah Jefferson join an academic game show? He's obviously going to drag his teammates down!" "I heard he just returned to the family after spending his entire life in the countryside and didn't even graduate from high school." "You've got that right. Even though they're both sons of the Jefferson family, Anthony has already been hired by the National Institute of Physics! Meanwhile, Noah is nothing more than a total slacker." The comments going around online make me pause. Are they referring to me, the guy who was guaranteed a spot in the top universities in the country at just 14 years old? And what's this about Anthony getting hired by the National Institute of Physics? How is it that I, the director of the institute, am only now learning of that?

Chapter 1
Just one month after being recognized as the biological son of the Jefferson family, my wealthy parents signed me up for The Clash of Minds, an academic game show. They tried to paint it in a positive light by claiming it was a chance for Anthony Jefferson, the son they had raised in my place, and I to get to know each other better.I knew that in reality, they just wanted me to be the foil to Anthony to make him look good.Sure enough, the moment the director pushed me onto the stage, a wave of undisguised snickering erupted from the audience.Anthony laughed so hard he nearly doubled over. He turned to Charlotte Sullivan, a contestant with a PhD in physics, and remarked, "You're going to have to take it easy during the debate round later, Dr. Sullivan. A certain someone here didn't even graduate from high school, but he's expected to discuss graviton models with us. Isn't that asking a little too much of him?"Charlotte adjusted her glasses, her eyes filled with the arrogance of

The giant screen in the center of the stage lit up, displaying a fragmented ancient star chart covered in strange symbols, along with a series of complicated physics equations listed beside it."Our first challenge is to use this reproduction of an ancient star chart unearthed from an ancient tomb to calculate the exact coordinates of the legendary lost city of Louveire! Contestants, you have two hours to complete this challenge. You're now free to form your own groups."The moment Ryan finished speaking, almost everyone rushed toward Anthony.Apart from Charlotte, Eugenie Lockwood, who had a master's degree in astronomy, and Alicia Hudson, who had a master's degree in history, had been considered the three favorites of the game show with the highest chance of being crowned the winner. But now, all three of them stood behind Anthony without any hesitation.Several of the weaker contestants also flocked to him, hoping to throw their lot in with the strongest team.In the blink of a

I looked right past Anthony, fixing my eyes on the director and the panel of experts seated among the audience."Go ahead and verify my answer."Unsure of what to do, the director turned to the experts for help. One of them was Dawn Clark, an elderly woman with graying hair and reading glasses perched on her nose. She was a leading authority in the world of physics and the one who'd designed this challenge.Clearly, she hadn't expected this situation either. After being briefly caught off guard, she quietly whispered something to her assistant, who immediately began the verification process.Less than five minutes later, the assistant's face turned pale. He stumbled over to Dawn, his lips trembling as he exclaimed, "D-Dr. Clark! The coordinates… are right, with the margin of error being on the order of millimeters!" All at once, every camera turned toward me yet again. The marker Charlotte was holding fell onto the floor with a loud clack while she mumbled, "No… That's impossib

Chapter 4
This was no longer just a challenge on a game show. It felt more like an attempt to humiliate someone.Anthony laughed so hard he nearly doubled over, as if he could already picture me standing in front of the whiteboard, unable to write a single word, before ultimately being ridiculed by the entire internet. With everyone's eyes fixed on me, I walked up to the whiteboard. After glancing briefly at the problem, I picked up the marker and started writing without any hesitation.Charlotte's expression was contemptuous at first, but soon, her jaw dropped. Her eyes filled with shock.Dawn abruptly shot to her feet as well. She shoved her chair aside and rushed to the edge of the stage. She had to grip the side for support, her entire body trembling from excitement.Once I completed the answer, I turned around and saw Dawn staring at me intensely.Charlotte was also staring in stunned disbelief. "He actually solved it..."Every single person present was completely thunderstruck."Ar

In an instant, the remaining color in Anthony's face drained out as well. His lips trembled, but he couldn't speak at all. He wanted to shout at me, to ask me who the hell I thought I was, but the words got stuck in his throat. The cameras on set shoved in close to our faces, frantically trying to capture every detail of his breakdown. The livestream chat was blowing up, too."Holy crap! He's the director of the National Institute of Physics? He was offered a spot at the top universities in the country at just 14 years old? What the hell? Is this some kind of fairy tale?""X… His codename is X? I remember now! That academic paper published in Nature last year that completely overturned the existing physics model was written by someone with the codename X!""So the guy we've been mocking and calling a brainless pretty boy this whole time is actually the director of the National Institute of Physics? He's X, the legendary figure in the physics world?""I can't believe it. I feel lik

"Horace Jefferson, in addition to bribery and academic fraud, you are also suspected of stealing classified research data from a national institute. I imagine your legal team is going to be very busy," I remarked. At that moment, the side door of the studio flew open. Several uniformed police officers with stern expressions walked straight through the crowd. All eyes were on them as they walked right up to the VIP section. The grim-faced lead officer showed his badge to Horace before saying, "Mr. Horace Jefferson, you are suspected of multiple cases of bribery and theft of trade secrets. You'll need to come with us."Naturally, the filming for the game show could no longer continue. The police took Horace away, and the production staff had to drag the limp Anthony off as well. His face, once hailed by his many fans as being that of a prodigy and a heartthrob, now held nothing but utter despair. The studio descended into chaos, and the livestream was abruptly cut off.Escorted by a

The most crucial piece of information to complete the graviton turbulence model I'd been working on for years was hidden inside that lost ancient city of Louviere. When the helicopter circled above the coordinates, there was nothing below except endless dunes.Voices of doubt began filling the livestream chat."Is that all? I thought this was supposed to be some lost city? There's nothing but sand for miles around!""Is he going to make a fool of himself after all?"Ignoring the cameras, I pulled out my tablet, bringing up the geological radar scan I'd already prepared."According to my calculations, an updraft forms on the windward side, carrying away the sand. A vortex forms on the leeward side, causing the sediment to accumulate."I pointed to an extremely inconspicuous depression on the screen and gave the pilot an order."Head 17 degrees east of north from the coordinates and descend 100 feet. The sand layer beneath that depression has an abnormal density. There's a hollow

A man in a hooded jacket stepped out of the shadows, his voice hoarse and sinister as he called out, "Hello, Dr. X. I've heard a lot about you. I'm going to need you to come with us. Our boss is very interested in the final calculations for your model."The man held the gun perfectly steadily, his hand not trembling in the slightest. It was obvious he was a professional.Alicia had turned pale from fright. Charlotte and Eugenie instinctively tried to shield me, but their bodies were so stiff with fear that they couldn't move.I simply remained where I was, unmoving."I don't have a completed version of my model yet," I calmly replied, my gaze sweeping past the gun to the shadows behind him. "I see you brought four others with you. Five people just to recruit me? That's quite a show of force."The man stiffened. It was apparent that he didn't expect me to remain so calm, let alone have the presence of mind to count how many people he'd brought with him."I shouldn't have expected

Charlotte and the others screamed and dropped flat onto the ground, while I had already darted to the other side of the stone tablet the moment I pressed the button.Amid the dust, the thieves were knocked flat on the ground. Although none of them had been squashed beneath the bronze ornament, the massive shockwave and flying debris had left them dazed and disoriented. Their weapons had also been knocked from their hands.A chunk of bronze had fallen onto the leader's leg. Clutching his leg, he howled in agony.None of them could have ever imagined that this ancient city, which had lain dormant for a thousand years, could be used as a live trap to ensnare them."What's going on?""It's a trap! This godforsaken place must be covered in secret mechanisms!"The men shouted in terror as they struggled to their feet, grabbing at their weapons.Alas, it was too late.More than a dozen figures rushed in through the shrine's many entrances. They wore special operations gear and carried

"The game show began as a project to find someone who could solve the calculations on the ancient manuscript. However, its significance has long since surpassed that."It has shown us that science isn't simply a solitary pursuit. It's a bridge connecting the past and the future. It's the only ladder by which human civilization can rise beyond its cradle."What matters is not me, nor any one person. What matters is the pursuit of knowledge itself—the undying curiosity and courage we possess when faced with the vastness of the universe."The interview was being broadcast live. I saw Charlotte, Eugenie, and Alicia standing together in the audience. The prejudice and doubt that had once filled their eyes were gone, replaced with a fiery passion that had been ignited within them.I knew that the almost ruthless pressure and trials I had subjected them to on the show had fulfilled their purpose. What I needed wasn't a group of obedient, by-the-book academics but fighters who, even after
