Prologue

(Third Person P.O.V)

    Nineteen years ago

In the Fae kingdom of Eferhile, late in the evening on the Winter Solstice, a butler hears the sudden cries of a baby while doing his rounds before going to bed. He immediately calls for the Queen and King as he runs to the palace’s front door; finding a baby, no more than a few hours old—as evidenced by the baby’s umbilical cord poking out of the blanket the baby was wrapped in. The Queen pushes the butler out of the way and picks up the baby from the ground, cradling it to her chest. She turns back into the castle, with her husband and butler hot on her heels, making her way into the sitting room.

"Who would leave a baby out in the cold like this?" King Leonard questioned.

"I don't know Your Majesty; I was doing the last of my rounds and only just heard the baby cry.” The butler responded

"Well, the first thing we should do is find out whether this sweet little babe is a boy or girl." Queen Raya says excitedly.

She has been wanting another child to fill out their family as if six children weren't enough. She carefully unwraps the baby from his/her blanket then proceeds to remove the baby’s soiled diaper.

“Oh, Goddess this poor thing definitely needs a diaper change.” The Queen chuckles after she opens the diaper.

The butler had run to the palace hospital and grabbed a box of extra diapers from the nurse.

"Well darling, is it a boy or a girl?" King Leonard asks.

"A beautiful baby girl Leo, we will keep her and raise her as our own." Queen Raya is quick to make this decision without so much as consulting her husband, he laughs as that is who his wife is--selfless, headstrong, and as stubborn as the day is long.

"Of course, my Queen, she will be ours to love and to raise. What shall we name her?"

"Morrigan. We'll name her Morrigan Faith." Queen Raya smiles down at sweet little Morrigan, whose chubby cheeks and bright green eyes have won the heart of both the King and Queen.

King Leonard looks at sweet little Morrigan, studying her face, her eyes.

“I can’t place my finger on it darling, but I swear she looks like the Queen of the shifter kingdom.”

“I think you are seeing things my King; we know that Queen Amelie and the baby she was carrying were killed after King Conri was during the coup.” Queen Raya’s lip quivers as she remembers her beloved friends who were killed just a mere few hours ago.

The butler has returned once again with a maid who brought along formula and a bottle for the tiny new Princess along with some baby clothes that the elder Princesses once wore. Queen Raya gets Morrigan dressed in pajamas and starts feeding her the bottle while walking up the stairs to her and the King's bed chambers.

"I will love you forever Morrigan, you will be forever our little Princess and my little sweet pea." King Leonard whispers as the Queen lays a sleeping Morrigan on the bed between herself and the King. The new addition to the Fae royal family slumbers between her new parents, not understanding what her existence will mean to an entire race of supernaturals.
