CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

Their goodbyes were awkward as Steve dropped Liam off at his place. 

Liam stepped out of the car and headed inside.  He spotted the car parked signifying his mum was back. He exhaled and opened the door to the interior part of the house.

His mum was in the living room sitting on a sofa. She was still in work clothes and her bag was next to her. 

"Mum," he smiled, sitting opposite her. "You're back."

"Honey, you're home. Just got back few minutes ago," she picked up her bag to take something from it. "How was school?"

"It was...great," Liam replied, remembering the day's events. "And how was work?"

"Very well, thank you," she beamed. "You must be exhausted. Go freshen up. I'll do the same and come down to make dinner later."

"Um, mum," he said as she got up to leave. 

"Yes?"
