Standing a few steps away was a young Alpha with ash-blond hair and striking green eyes. He wore the black uniform of the Royal Knights, and a playful smile rested on his lips. It had been years since Elias had last seen him. "You remembered me." Alaric chuckled. "How could I forget?" Elias smiled for the first time that evening. When they were children, Alaric had been Elias's closest friend... and his very first crush. They had spent countless afternoons training, reading, and sneaking away from palace lessons together before Alaric left to train with the Royal Knights. "It's been so long," Elias said. "Too long." Alaric scratched the back of his neck. "I returned a few days ago, but I was assigned to guard duty. Tonight was the first chance I had to see you." Elias laughed softly. "You've changed." "So have you." Alaric looked at him carefully. "But you still smile when you're hurting." Elias's smile faded. "Is it that obvious?" "Only to someone who knows you." For a moment, neither of them spoke. The silence wasn't awkward. It was comforting, like old times. "You know," Alaric said, "I used to wonder if we'd ever meet again." "I'm glad we did." "So am I." Back inside the ballroom, Kael accepted another round of congratulations. His smile never reached his eyes. Without realizing it, he glanced toward the open garden doors. Then he saw them. Elias... Standing beneath the moonlight. Smiling with another Alpha. "Who is the man with Prince Elias?" kael asked The guard bowed respectfully. "That is Alpha Alaric Ashbourne, Your Highness." Kael frowned slightly. "Alaric?" "Yes, Your Highness. He recently returned to the capital after completing his training with the Royal Knights." Kael watched as the two continued talking. "They seem close." "They are, Your Highness. Prince Elias and Alpha Alaric grew up together. They were inseparable as children before Alpha Alaric left for his training. They are simply very close friends." Kael looked at them for another moment. A strange feeling that had settled in his chest slowly disappeared. "So... just friends." "Yes, Your Highness." Kael gave a small nod, his expression softening almost immediately. For some reason, hearing those words made him restlessness. "Alpha Kael." He turned to find Selene approaching with a gentle smile. "The final toast is about to begin." "I'll be there." Kael cast one last glance toward the garden. Elias and Alaric were still talking, completely unaware they had been watched. Kael quietly returned to the ballroom. The banquet continued late into the night with music, dancing, and endless congratulations. The nobles celebrated the upcoming union between the two royal families, raising their glasses in honor of the future Alpha King and Luna. When the celebration finally came to an end, guests began leaving the palace one after another. Outside, carriages lined the entrance as servants helped the nobles depart. Elias climbed into his family's carriage beside his parents. He looked out the window one last time, his eyes briefly meeting Kael's across the palace courtyard. As the carriage rolled away into the night. The palace grew quite as the last carriage disappeared into darknessLater that evening, Elias finally returned home. he had barely stepped inside when he heard laughter coming from the sitting room. Selene was waiting for him.The moment she saw him, a mischievous smile appeared on her face..“So, you're finally home.”Elias turned and found her standing there with a knowing smile. He immediately became suspicious. “Why are you looking at me like that?”Selene folded her arms. “Shouldn't I be asking you that?”“I don't understand.”“Oh, please.” She laughed. “You really thought you could kiss Liana in front of everyone and come home pretending nothing happened?”Elias sighed and looked away.Selene walked closer, clearly enjoying his discomfort. "So it's true?”"People have already told you?”"I didn't need anyone to tell me. The entire place is talking about it.”Elias rubbed the back of his neck. “It wasn't a big deal.”"Not a big deal?” Selene laughed. “You kissed your sister's friend and confessed that you've loved her for a long time. How is that
Alaric was the only son of Ashbourne and Aurelia, but their marriage had never been built on love.Ashbourne loved another woman, Valeria, long before he married Aurelia. He was forced to marry her, and although she became his wife, his heart remained with Valeria. Instead of accepting the life he had been given, Ashbourne continued seeing Valeria in secret.Aurelia knew nothing about it. She loved her husband and tried to make their marriage work. She believed that perhaps, with time, Ashbourne would eventually learn to love her.But that hope disappeared the day she discovered the truth. She found out about Ashbourne and Valeria and realized that the man she had devoted herself to had never truly belonged to her.The betrayal broke something inside her.Still, Aurelia tried to remain strong for Alaric. He was only a child, and she didn't want him to see how much she was suffering. Whenever he was around, she forced a smile and acted as though everything was fine. But the pain didn't
Kael stared at Elias for a moment. Then, unexpectedly, he smiled. It was a soft smile, almost as if Elias's decision hadn't frightened him at all. Before Elias could say another word, Kael stepped closer. He placed a gentle kiss on Elias's cheek and wrapped an arm around his waist, pulling him closer."You are mine,” Kael whispered against his ear. “And only mine. You can't leave me.”Elias's heart skipped. Before he could say anything, Kael kissed his cheek again. Then he released him and walked out of the room.Elias remained standing there in silence, He touched the place where Kael had kissed him.He didn't know what to feel.Should he be happy?Or should he be angry?Elias sighed and shook his head.He didn't want to think about it anymore. He returned home and went straight to his room. After taking a shower, he dressed in clean clothes and headed toward his sister's room. He wanted to check on her and see how she was doing. When he opened the door, he stopped. His sister wasn't
Elias stared at his breakfast, but he no longer had any appetite to eat, he pushed his chair back. "I'm not hungry anymore." Selene looked at him in surprise. "Elias—" But he was already walking away. He didn't wait for anyone to say another word. As soon as he stepped outside the palace, the cool morning air hit his face. He walked quickly across the courtyard, his expression dark. Liana hurried after him. "Elias, wait!" He slowed down but didn't turn around. Liana finally caught up with him. "You were supposed to show me around." "I know." "Are you okay?" "I'm fine." His answer was short, almost cold. Liana looked at his face, clearly unconvinced. Before she could say anything else, the sound of horses approaching came from the palace gates. The sound of horses approaching made Elias stop. His eyes immediately found Kael. For a brief moment, their gazes met. Elias waited. He expected Kael to smile at him, say something, or at least acknowledge his presence. I
Liana's face burned with embarrassment. "I-I'm so sorry, Elias!" she stammered, quickly lowering her head. "I didn't mean to intrude." She hurried toward the door, desperate to escape the awkward situation.Gripping the handle, she twisted it. It wouldn't budge. She frowned and tried again, this time with more force. The door remained firmly shut. "W-What?" she whispered. Elias had already put on a shirt and fastened the first few buttons before noticing her struggling. "It won't open?" Liana shook her head, refusing to look at him. "I... I think it's locked."Elias let out a quiet sigh. "Selene." He didn't need anyone to tell him who was behind it. His sister had clearly locked the door from the outside.Walking over, he stopped beside Liana. "It's all right," he said gently. "Move aside for a moment." Liana stepped back, her heart beating so loudly she was certain he could hear it. Standing so close to him only made her more nervous. Elias reached past her and grasped
"Lady Liana, would you mind giving me twenty minutes?" She blinked. "Twenty minutes?" "I'd like to wash up first. I left my room early this morning, and I don't think it's polite to take a lady around the capital looking like this."Liana's cheeks turned pink."O-Of course. I don't mind waiting." "Thank you." Elias smiled warmly. "I'll be back before you know it, then I'll show you around the city."Just as he turned to leave, Selene narrowed her eyes."Wait."Elias froze.Slowly, he looked back at his sister. "Yes?" "You want to bathe now?""...Yes." Selene folded her arms. "Why didn't you bathe before coming downstairs?"Elias forced a laugh."I... overslept.""You've never skipped your morning bath before." "I suppose today is an exception." Selene continued staring at him. Something about his behavior felt... strange. Then another thought crossed her mind. She tilted her head. "Did you go somewhere this morning?" For a split second, Elias's heart nearly
