Mara's POV

Elias’ hand closed around my wrist before I even found the strength to step away from him. One moment I was blinking at him, startled, my mouth still tasting of mint and acid, and the next he yanked me back into the restroom and shut the door with a sharp slam.

“What did you just say?” His voice was low, dangerous, so quiet it felt louder than a shout.

I swallowed hard. “Elias, let go.”

“No.” His grip tightened. “Say it again. Say exactly what you said.”

“I didn’t mean...”

“You said

Elia's POVI stared at her, my voice hitching in a way I couldn't control."What are you doing?" I asked, though the answer was written in the desperate, beautiful fire in her eyes. She didn't answer with words. She stepped forward, and pulled me into a wet, frantic kiss. We swallowed the running water together, the heat of the shower clashing with the electric chill of her touch. Every inch of her naked body was pressed against mine. In that moment, I forgot about everything. I pulled her closer, my tongue slamming into hers, needing to taste her, to explore every dark, wet corner of her mouth as if I could find her soul there. I pinned her against the glass wall, the thud of her back hitting the surface muffled by the rush of the water.I was going to be careful with her—I always wanted to be—but the hunger was too sharp. I pinned her wrists above her head against the wall, planting rough, marking kisses along the column of her neck before returning to her lips. She moaned into my

Elias POVThe drive back to the Lawson Group was a blur. My hands gripped the steering wheel so hard my knuckles were white, the image of that disappearing silhouette at Scott Enterprise burning into the back of my eyelids. But as the elevator rose towards my office floor, I forced the mask back on. I couldn't let Mara see the state I was in.When I pushed open the door to her office, she was slumped over desk, her head resting on her crossed arms. She looked so small amidst the towering stacks of files and the cold glow of her computer screen. She looked vulnerable.I walked over, my footsteps very quiet on the carpet. I stood there for a long moment, just watching the rhythmic rise and fall of her shoulders. I reached out, my fingers trembling slightly as I brushed a stray lock of hair away from her temple. Her skin was warm. I let my thumb trace the curve of her cheek, while I watch her.She stirred, a small, sleepy sigh escaping her lips before her eyes fluttered open. She blinked

Elia's POVRichard left the hallway as my glare burned into the back of his head. I turned my attention back to Mara, whose small frame seemed to vibrate with a tension she was trying desperately to hide. "We’ll talk about this later," I said, my voice softening despite the storm of questions in my mind. "When you actually decide to talk to me. I don’t want you stressing right now."I reached out and gently but firmly took the stack of files she was clutching against her chest. She looked startled, her fingers lingering on the manila folders as if they were a shield."It’s fine," she protested, her voice a thin thread. "I can actually handle them. I was just heading down to—""I know you can," I interrupted, cutting her off before she could say anything. "I know you're capable. But I don’t want you to. I just need you to wait for me. I won’t waste time, I promise."I didn’t give her a chance to argue. I turned and walked away, the files in my hand. I swung by her department on the wa

Elias’s POVI watched Camille walk away. I didn’t give her the satisfaction of a response, but that didn’t mean I was going to sit idle. Since this mess involves Mara, I will be moving ten steps ahead in my mind. Every time David’s name came up in the same breath as hers, it felt like a low-grade fever burning in my blood.I walked back toward my room but found myself standing in front of Mara’s door. My hand reached out, fingers hovering over the handle. I just wanted to see her; I wanted to make sure she was okay. I had been so busy with the quiet funeral I held for Mark. It wasn’t that I’d forgotten about her; it was just that I’d been occupied with so many things, including Mark’s brother.I hesitated, then slowly withdrew my hand."She’s not back," a sharp voice sliced through the silence.I turned my head. Andrea was standing a few feet away. "I saw her leave earlier," she added."I didn't ask," I snapped, making a move to walk toward my own room, but she wasn't finished."I hea

Elias’s POVThe silence of the cemetery was always the loudest kind of quiet. It was a heavy, suffocating weight that settled in the lungs and refused to leave. I stood before Mark's grave, staring into the air.For days, a disturbing hole had been carved into my heart. I looked down at the single white flower in my hand before letting it fall. It landed softly on the dark soil, a stark contrast to the dirt that had claimed a man who had been more than just my secret source. He had been my eyes, my ears, and in many ways, my conscience.I felt like I was drowning in the air here. If I hadn't been so carried away—Mark would still be breathing. He must have had clues. He must have gotten some informations for me before his death. Few days ago, I had even realized that I missed his calls when I checked my phone. Silent calls I had ignored because I was too busy drowning in the drama of a fake engagement."I’m sorry, Mark," I whispered, the wind stealing the words before they could even s

David's POVThe morning air was crisp, the kind of cold that bites into your skin and reminds you that winter is coming. I had my keys in my hand, ready to disappear, but met up with Andrea outside. She was leaning against the driver’s side door, her arms crossed over her chest. She looked perfect, as she always did—every hair in place, her makeup a flawless mask of composure. "Have you forgotten? We have somewhere to be," she said, her voice like a velvet trap.I stopped, my hand tightening around the key fob. "Where is that?"Without answering, she reached back and pulled the passenger seat door open. "Enter first. You’ll know when we get there. I’m driving."I hesitated. I could have fought her. I could have turned around and walked back into the house, but I didn't want the scene. I didn't want the high-pitched arguments or the dramatic accusations that would surely follow. I needed a moment of peace to figure out how to get to Mara, and if sitting in a car with Andrea for an hou
