MasukAt five in the evening on the thirtieth of April, I was heading back to my dorm when a disheveled woman in a mask passed me going the other way. Her eyes were sunken. "It's your turn," I thought I heard her say, but her voice was so faint I thought I might have imagined it. A second later, a deafening thump came from nearby. "Ah!" "Someone jumped off a building!" "Someone's dead! Call an ambulance!" The police arrived quickly and sealed off the scene. The girl who had died was Rosa Harris, one of my dorm mates. The police interrogated each of us. All of us had the same impression of her. She was poor, unsociable, withdrawn, and possibly mentally ill. Her death was ruled a suicide before long. The police left, but the campus stayed on lockdown. Everyone was forced to hand over their phones for inspection. Anything about Rosa's suicide was deleted to keep the news from getting out. The lockdown would end at eight in the morning on the first of May, when we could leave for the break. But I never made it off campus. When my alarm rang at six in the morning, I groggily opened my eyes. Suddenly, a large hand clamped over my mouth and nose. I suffocated, dying in agony and despair. When I opened my eyes again, it was five in the evening on the thirtieth of April. A voice spoke in my ear, so faint I could have imagined it. "It's your turn."

If I accepted the punishment I deserved and he had no way to get to me, surely he would let me go? Would that end the cycle of dying and regression? I prayed it would. If this did not end soon, I was going to lose my mind. "Don't worry. You'll be punished for your crimes. We won't let anyone take the law into their own hands!" The officer's firm assurance made me feel a little better. This time, officers guarded my holding cell around the clock. Michael had no way to get to me. I thought my nightmare was finally over. Then, an unbearable pain suddenly tore through my stomach. "The water! There's something wrong with the bottled water!" By the time I realized what had happened, it was too late. I died from the poison regressed yet again. I was going insane. The instant I heard "It's your turn," I lunged at the woman in despera
Before cutting my throat, he narrowed his eyes, savoring what was coming. "Soon, everyone from your dorm will be back together again. You're all going to accompany Rosa in Hell!" I realized that nothing I said would make him let me go. So, I laughed too. The words burst out in despair. "You think you're some kind of hero? "We're not good people, but neither are you! Even the law wouldn't sentence us to death, but you want to kill every last one of us! Even if Jaina and I deserve to die, what about Wendy and Fiona? Jaina threatened them into helping her!" As I finished, Michael cut my throat. Just before I died, I heard him say, "No, no. None of you are just accomplices. All of you have a hand in her death! Why else would Wendy volunteer to die to make up for what she did?" When I opened my eyes again, I was too stunned to think for a long time. Wendy had chosen to die? That explained how Michael knew our door code and why she had drugged our beer! She really had wanted us
As I listened to his side of the story for ten minutes next, I saw a completely different side of him. He said he had always loved Rosa deeply. He could not stand up to Jaina, so he had flattered her without meaning any of it, hoping she would leave Rosa alone eventually. But he had underestimated how distorted Jaina's mind was. Even after he distanced himself from Rosa, Jaina was still jealous and kept harassing her relentlessly. His secret help and encouragement had been the only things keeping Rosa alive. Then, a month earlier, Jaina had arranged for Rosa to be sexually assaulted. Rosa had not been able to take it anymore after that. She had been devastated. She was numb and unresponsive every day, a shell of her former self. Michael had noticed the change in the woman he loved, but no matter how much he asked, she would not tell him about the assault. He had started investigating and spent a month finding out the truth. Thirtieth of April. Five in the evening. He had
Who was it? The killer? How did he find me? "No..." I muttered, reassuring myself. "It has to be a homeless person or someone walking by. It can't be the killer!" I picked up a rock to defend myself, crept to the edge of my hiding place, and peeked out. My blood ran cold the next moment! There he was, walking slowly toward me with a sharp knife. His hoarse voice was cruel, like a hunter toying with prey he had already caught in his trap. "Quinn River… I found you…" My eyes widened in terror as I pulled back under the bridge. I wanted to fight, but I was too scared to lift the rock. It slipped from my hand and landed hard on my foot. I felt nothing. Fear had numbed all my senses. "Michael!" I shouted, my voice hoarse. "Why are you trying to kill me? Are you doing this to get revenge for Rosa? But... But Jaina was the one who drove her to her suicide! I did something wrong, but I can repent! I don't deserve to die!" By the time I finished, Michael was already under the
