Chapter 2

Author: Mister Rhapsody
Someone knocked on the door with three loud bangs.

On the digital lock's screen, we saw three police officers standing outside. Jaina shot us a threatening look before opening the door.

As Rosa's dorm mates, we were taken away one by one and questioned separately. When my turn came, I was still trying to figure out who had killed me.

I ruled out Jaina first.

Her father was a prominent local businessman, and the university chancellor had personally welcomed her when she enrolled. She had a bright future ahead of her. She had already been terrified that her role in Rosa's death would come out. So, she had no reason to kill anyone herself.

Then I thought of Wendy.

Before Jaina started targeting Rosa and turning people against her, Wendy had been Rosa's closest friend. They both had good grades, came from similar backgrounds, and were practically inseparable.

Once, Wendy had been tricked while working a part-time job and was almost abducted by human traffickers. Rosa had risked her life to save her.

Later on, Wendy started bullying Rosa too just to get on Jaina's good side, all to get expensive makeup and a premium phone.

With Rosa dead, did Wendy regret it? Was she so overwhelmed with guilt that she wanted to kill us to get revenge for Rosa?

My heart raced as I remembered more details from my previous life.

Before going to bed, Wendy had brought out several cans of beer. We were all under a lot of stress and drank without suspecting anything. I was quite the drinker, but one can had made me so sleepy I could barely stay awake...

She had put something in the beer!

Wendy was the culprit!

This time, I was ready. I could get Jaina and Fiona to help me hold her down so she could not kill me.

I decided not to let things get too complicated and lied to the police, just as I had the last time. "I don't know why Rosa killed herself. I hardly ever spoke to her. She always went everywhere alone and kept to herself. Whenever we invited her to eat with us, she turned us down..."

After a brief interview, the police let me return to the dorm. The evidence at the scene and the security camera footage showed that no one else had been near Rosa when she jumped.

Once again, her death was ruled a suicide.

The university went into lockdown. All the faculty and staff were sent out to search through every student's phone and delete any photos and videos of the incident. By the time it was over, it was already ten in the evening.

Wendy yawned and brought out the beer again. "Come on, Rosa's dead. Are you still scared of her? Relax. Have a drink and get some sleep. Let's go have some fun tomorrow when the holiday starts."

I had already warned Fiona and Jaina that something was wrong with the beer and Wendy was up to something.

-

We acted as though nothing was wrong, drinking the beer as we laughed and chatted. As soon as we finished, we felt sleepy.

We pretended we needed the bathroom, stuck our fingers down our throats, and threw up all the beer.

By the time we came out, Wendy had already locked the door. I checked that the lock was working and climbed into bed to pretend to sleep.

I did not dare look at my phone or even move. Every second felt unbearable.

To distract myself, I went over everything I remembered from the last time. The hand that had smothered me had smelled strongly of blood. Maybe Wendy had already killed Jaina and Fiona, and my alarm had startled her into attacking me in a panic.

Suddenly, fear jolted through me when I remembered the details. Those hands had been huge, much bigger than mine. Meanwhile, Wendy was even shorter than I was...

"You witch! I knew you were up to something! Why are you standing by my bed in the middle of the night?!" Jaina's shouts cut off my thoughts.

Was Wendy about to make her move?

This time, I told the police everything I knew, including my own crimes. I begged them to protect me and told them Michael was going to kill me. If I accepted the punishment I deserved and he had no way to get to me, surely he would let me go? Would that end the cycle of dying and regression? I prayed it would. If this did not end soon, I was going to lose my mind. "Don't worry. You'll be punished for your crimes. We won't let anyone take the law into their own hands!" The officer's firm assurance made me feel a little better. This time, officers guarded my holding cell around the clock. Michael had no way to get to me. I thought my nightmare was finally over. Then, an unbearable pain suddenly tore through my stomach. "The water! There's something wrong with the bottled water!" By the time I realized what had happened, it was too late. I died from the poison regressed yet again. I was going insane. The instant I heard "It's your turn," I lunged at the woman in despera

Before cutting my throat, he narrowed his eyes, savoring what was coming. "Soon, everyone from your dorm will be back together again. You're all going to accompany Rosa in Hell!" I realized that nothing I said would make him let me go. So, I laughed too. The words burst out in despair. "You think you're some kind of hero? "We're not good people, but neither are you! Even the law wouldn't sentence us to death, but you want to kill every last one of us! Even if Jaina and I deserve to die, what about Wendy and Fiona? Jaina threatened them into helping her!" As I finished, Michael cut my throat. Just before I died, I heard him say, "No, no. None of you are just accomplices. All of you have a hand in her death! Why else would Wendy volunteer to die to make up for what she did?" When I opened my eyes again, I was too stunned to think for a long time. Wendy had chosen to die? That explained how Michael knew our door code and why she had drugged our beer! She really had wanted us

As I listened to his side of the story for ten minutes next, I saw a completely different side of him. He said he had always loved Rosa deeply. He could not stand up to Jaina, so he had flattered her without meaning any of it, hoping she would leave Rosa alone eventually. But he had underestimated how distorted Jaina's mind was. Even after he distanced himself from Rosa, Jaina was still jealous and kept harassing her relentlessly. His secret help and encouragement had been the only things keeping Rosa alive. Then, a month earlier, Jaina had arranged for Rosa to be sexually assaulted. Rosa had not been able to take it anymore after that. She had been devastated. She was numb and unresponsive every day, a shell of her former self. Michael had noticed the change in the woman he loved, but no matter how much he asked, she would not tell him about the assault. He had started investigating and spent a month finding out the truth. Thirtieth of April. Five in the evening. He had

Who was it? The killer? How did he find me? "No..." I muttered, reassuring myself. "It has to be a homeless person or someone walking by. It can't be the killer!" I picked up a rock to defend myself, crept to the edge of my hiding place, and peeked out. My blood ran cold the next moment! There he was, walking slowly toward me with a sharp knife. His hoarse voice was cruel, like a hunter toying with prey he had already caught in his trap. "Quinn River… I found you…" My eyes widened in terror as I pulled back under the bridge. I wanted to fight, but I was too scared to lift the rock. It slipped from my hand and landed hard on my foot. I felt nothing. Fear had numbed all my senses. "Michael!" I shouted, my voice hoarse. "Why are you trying to kill me? Are you doing this to get revenge for Rosa? But... But Jaina was the one who drove her to her suicide! I did something wrong, but I can repent! I don't deserve to die!" By the time I finished, Michael was already under the

When I opened my eyes again, I was back just before Rosa's suicide. The strange woman whispered in my ear again. "It's your turn." As soon as she finished, I reached for her mask as fast as I could, but she dodged sideways as though she had expected it. The way she looked at me was filled with scorn. "How many times has it been now?" The third time. But I had confidence that this would be the last. Nothing would happen to me again. I no longer cared who the woman was. I ignored her and headed off campus. I knew who the killer was and how to avoid him. All I had to do was hide until he killed my other dorm mates and the police caught him. Then I would be safe. "Go back!" "Someone has committed suicide, and the campus is now on lockdown! You can come in, but no one's allowed out! Didn't you get the notice?" A security guard stopped me at the campus gates. I was too late again. No matter how much I pleaded, he would not budge. The campus had apparently issued stric

Something about the shape of her face looked familiar, but no matter how hard I glared at her, I could not remember who she was. Her eyes widened above her mask, then filled with mockery. "So, it has started for you?" She knew something! She had to know why I was trapped in this loop! Being murdered twice was more than I could bear. I gritted my teeth and growled, "Who killed me? What do I have to do to stay alive?" She did not answer. Rosa jumped off the building again. The woman looked toward the spot where Rosa had died, smiled, and shook off my grip. She disappeared into the panicked crowd. It took me a long time to calm down. Was she hinting that Rosa was behind my deaths and the time loop? Every time I came back to life, I returned to the moment Rosa died. And whoever kept killing me wanted revenge for Rosa. Two terrifying deaths and another bizarre regression had left me close to breaking down. Nothing mattered except ending the loop and getting my normal life
