3. Inferno

Mia

Lucien had been really secretive about this trip to the Inferno pack. Most business trips entailed me learning years of history about a pack and it’s politics, then hours of me rehearsing different scenarios and plans, but this time he was radio silent. I was told where to drive to and when we were leaving and that’s it.

The whole drive here I was annoyed and I made sure that I projected my feeling towards him as much as I could. Unfortunately I knew this amused him and he had little empathy for my frustrations. “Mia, your suffocating me with your teenage hormones,” he chuckled during the drive and I rolled my eyes. Knowing Lucien since I was a pup, I was forever a baby to him.

Parking the car I sighed and pushed my hair back. “Fucking Lucien,” I grumbled knowing very well that he could hear me, before storming into the pack house. As I came to the office I could hear him having a leisurely chat and did not hesitate to barge into the room. I stood in the doorway and observed the scene, an Alpha, Beta and Gamma looking very comfortable around Lucien. The Beta and Gamma hardly met my gaze, whereas the Alpha bore his grey eyes into mine. ‘He got out quick,’ I noted to Lucien via mind link and he observed and grinned. ‘Maybe you’ve met your match?’

I shrugged, internalising my energy before making my way towards him, seeing the two other wolves almost immediately regain their composure. This was a guard thing, we had this weird ability to make wolves submit, even the strongest struggled to shake their way out of it. When we were in front of ‘friendlies’ we always had to keep our energies at bay.

“Are you going to tell me what we’re doing now Luce?” I asked as I flopped down onto the couch next to him. I didn’t miss the bug eyed expressions from the three wolves, I guess at my lack of formalities addressing Lucien. “I had to sacrifice manners for ability with this one,” Lucien noted, smirking, easing the tension in the room. “She may not seem like it, but I would not trust my life with anybody else.” I rolled my eyes, ‘may not seem like it my ass.’ He grinned at my comment before clearing his throat, scolding me over mindlink.

“This is Mia, my guard,” he continued, gesturing to me. “Mia, this is Alpha Felix, of Inferno, and his Beta, Zach and Gamma, Leo.” I nodded and smiled at the three, “it’s nice to meet you all.” They looked at me and nodded, seemingly all trying to figure me out. This was the problem with being a guard, nobody really understood whether we were an ally or a threat, so most of the time wolves just assumed that we were a ticking time bomb.

“Now like I said, I am here for business. Essentially there is rumours of a rogue alliance forming not far from here.” Not one of us seemed surprised at this statement, it had been almost a hundred years since the last one, it had been too quiet for too long. “We we’re thinking something may be in the works,” the Alpha noted. “We have noticed a lot of fresh faces in the White flag zone, and has a higher than average amount of intruders in the pack just this last week.” I observed him as he spoke. The same presence and build as most Alphas I had met in the past, a lot of ‘obey me’ energy that also screamed strength. His dark hair a bit messier that others however, and eyes so grey they looked like storm clouds. I could feel his gaze continue to fall on me but I just shrugged it off. I hated alpha types.

Lucien seemed to consider his comment before continuing. “Mia has been scouting that area for the last few weeks now, looking at me to continue. “Some of my sources have made me aware of the newbies, majority seeming to be packless wolves or covenless vamps. Seeing their interactions in the white zone, I can’t see a reason why the two wouldn’t attempt to make some sort of hybrid super pack. They all seem quite friendly with each other, in terms of behaviour in the club.” The beta and gamma nodded, where as the Alpha continued to stare, I raised my eyebrow at him and he reverted his gaze to Lucien. “At the moment I have been in and out of there trying to find some sort of ‘leader’ for their group or somebody calling the shots,” I finished shrugging.

I looked to Lucien and he nodded. “And this brings us to why we are here today,” he started, directing the attention of the three. “While Mia is scouting for any potential threats it would be a lot more effective if she had more time in the area.”

“Of course, we can promise that she won’t be deemed a threat if we see her,” the Alpha noted.

“Not that Felix,” Lucien continued. “What I’m asking is that Mia stay here. At Inferno.”
