Chapter 4

Chapter 4 - Why is this place filled with arrogant twats?

"A-arrogant what?! Did she just call me bastard?!" The young man felt his heart drop for some reason, he didn't know how to reply and was stunned. He didn't really think of her as an admirer, he didn't know how to approach her, thus, he came off as arrogant towards her. He didn't know that he came off as arrogant and that's why he didn't expect that kind of reply. Lucas was stunned in his spot unable to move.

Demi couldn't wait to tell Nova what had happened, she was infuriated by the guy's narcissism. The audacity! Demi walked towards the courtyard outside the cafeteria with her arms crossed, she couldn't wait for Nova to come. She sat down on the bench behind the tree in the corner and tried calming herself down. Ten minutes had passed when a figure cast a shadow on her. She opened her eyes and saw the guy that often goes to the library.

"You seem to be in a bad mood." He reached out his hand and revealed strawberry milk in his hand.

"You seem to know me well." I reached out and angrily stabbed the straw on the drink.

"I'm just observant. So, what happened?" He tried to see if it was appropriate for him to ask. I just started telling him that a certain someone acted arrogantly. He seems to have an idea of who the person I'm referring to was. He listened intently as we ate sweets.

"A lot of people are, especially when you're this ugly." He talked about how arrogant most people act especially when they see someone they "think" are worse than them.

"You are?" I asked.

"Uhm, yeah?" The guy has low self-esteem, I see.

"What do you want to change from yourself then?" I asked and he didn't expect me to ask that. It was out of the blue.

"M-my body and face." He stuttered.

"Elaborate."

"I-I, want to remove this flab, I want to grow taller, a-and to have nice hair."

"You think you can reach that?" I asked once again. The guy seems to be disappointed at what I'm saying but I continued.

"No, I don't think I can." He looked down and seem to lose hope.

"See, that's what you call insecurities, everyone has them. Some feel worse about their flaws, some think of them as a positive trait. Some have the motivation to change themselves, some don't. The real question is, do you think you'll be fulfilled once you change yourself? Do you think that this type of change is for the better? When you answer those two questions, then you have the answer whether you can or can't." I took the last sip of my strawberry milk and squeezed it as if that's going to do something. I looked at him again and continued.

"Besides, being "attractive" is a societal thing. Your pale skin may not be attractive to Western culture, but you're hella tractive in Eastern culture. You might not be attractive because you think you're fat, but that fat is attractive in Ancient Greece. I'm not saying that you shouldn't have insecurities, it's a normal human thing." I stood up and stretched my back. I looked back at him again and wore a reassuring smile.

"Just don't beat yourself for not being someone you're obviously not." I leaned and patted him on the shoulder, I don't know how he'll take what I said, but I know I gave my best. I thanked him for the food and for cheering me up and went on my way. I just want to sleep and rest.

What Demi didn't know was that she was being watched at home for the past three days. The maids have been reporting back to the young master about her actions.

"Huh, that girl must've been putting up a new act." For Victor, the certificates and the awards must be fake. Her sister has done so many ridiculous things in her life, this is just a new game just to get the attention pointed at her.

Demi came back and slept soundly, Nova came back by the time she woke up a few hours later and she told him everything that happened. Demi decided to eat downstairs since she hasn't had dinner yet. She was preparing her meal when she heard the kitchen door open, she didn't even bother looking at them and continued cleaning up. This irked Victor who just entered the kitchen, he was curious as to who would visit the kitchen at 1 am.

"You should stop with that nonsense, it's useless." Demi didn't know what the guy was talking about, it was so random.

"I don't know what you're talking about." She turned around and was about to walk out the door when Victor leaned on the cupboard to block her way.

"The certificate and achievements just to grab our attention, it's honestly becoming pathetic." Demi was so dumbfounded that she couldn't hide it from her reaction. 'Dafuq is this guy talking about?' She looked at Victor like some random stupid kid. This caught him off guard.

" *sigh* Why is this place filled with arrogant twats?" Demi whispered which Victor still heard because of their short distance from each other.

"What did you j-" He was cut off before he even finished what he was about to say.

"Isn't it pathetic for someone to think that they're the center of everything? The world doesn't revolve around you, you narcissistic f*cker." Demi shoved Victor from blocking the door, she was pissed off.

She knew that the original Yvonne was an attention seeker, but you couldn't point your finger at here either, she was deprived of a mother's love from a young age, being hated by the maids, even her own brother and father neglected her. They didn't even remember her nickname and kept on calling her Yvonne or "hey". Demi sympathized with the original owner of the body, the feeling of abandonment, not being able to rely on someone as a child and is forced to become independent. The only difference between them is that Yvonne Belle became independent by using her authority and pushing everyone and at the same time, craving for her family's attention. Demi was able to fully rely on herself, she knew all too well that 'those' manipulative people are only using her.

Before she goes deeper with her thoughts once again, she snapped herself out of it and continued eating inside her room. Victor was left inside the kitchen, embarrassed. He didn't how and what to reply.

'Has she really...changed?' He asked himself. The last time he saw her was in his first year in pre-med. He was only 17 when he got into college and focused on medicine. He rarely visited his home and only has 1 guy he considers as his 'friend'. Sound kinda lonely but, he's just a stingy and stern guy to hang out with. Leon was the only guy who matched his standards. Leon was 18 when they first met. Victor was taking Biology as his pre-med whilst Leon was taking BS psychology.

His sister was loud, obnoxious, an attention seeker, and very sensitive to her emotions. She would cry whenever she didn't get what she wanted and doesn't have good academic achievements. She would always do something just to get their attention but now, she's completely different. His father didn't even realize it as well, he was focused on the business and only gave her a monthly allowance. Victor remembered that Yvonne used to follow him around when he was still in high school and elementary always calling him big brother. He didn't like her since she was stupid and noisy that's why when he left for college, he didn't even say goodbye.

He suddenly remembered a random memory when he was 12 years old.

"Brother look, Look! I found a ladybug in the garden!" The ugly little girl came running at me with a disgusting bug in her little hands.

"What the hell! Get that away from me." I distance away from her and her bug, she was really irritating.

"Did you know that ladybugs symbolizes luck in love and money?" I looked at her stupefied. What nonsense has she been reading?

"What's that got to do with me?" I crossed my arms and looked at the small child, she's like a fly, so annoying and persistent.

"I'll give it to brother! So you can have a fulfilling and happy life." She came near me and tried handing me the ladybug.

"That's disgusting! Get that away ftrom me." I didn't know where it came from or what it touched. Besides, even if it symoblizes luck, it's still a bug! But what Victor didn't know was that Yvonne is trying her best not to cry.

'Good girls don't cry.' She stopped herself from tearing as she remembered her father's words whom she admired at the time.

'Come to think of it, how old is she?' Victor got out of the kitchen and back to his room, his purpose was to only get water when he suddenly saw his sister making food.

Yvonne Belle is currently 16 and turning 17 the next month, Demi herself doesn't even know the exact day, she didn't really care. She was focused on making money, even though she's already rich as Yvonne, she wanted money of her own. Money was her only drive at the moment, she's not so desperate to have money that she'd sell her body, she still has a strong dignity and pride, she just tends to overwork at times.

"Nova." The little fluff ball sat on the bed frame when Demi called her.

'Yes?' It moved over to her and sat down.

"You're getting bigger." Demi noticed that his white fluff was getting thicker and he was getting larger. The first time she met it (Nova), he was only as big as her middle finger, now, she was as bigger as her whole hand.

'Hehe, yes I am!' Nova then told her his journey through time. Nova was out to retrieve some of his items which he scattered all around the galaxy, important items that he could only use when he had a strong form. Now that he has gained a little bit of strength, he wanted to gift Demi something.

"I could only scatter them around when I was being chased by my own family." Nova was an heir to a throne. He was the youngest and the one with the most potential, he was so pure that he didn't think that such a day would come, a day where his own aunt and uncles wanted to kill him. When he was running through the forest of time, he let go of his enchanted items. He has a total of 10 enchanted items that he was able to salvage from the fire that his family set in his own home.

"A total of ten items?" I asked. He went through all of that suffering and was only able to salvage 10 of his belongings? It was a depressing thought.

"Yep. Aphrodite's mirror, Talaria, Blood bell-"

"Blood bell? That sounds menacing compared to a mirror and a slipper." I was familiar with some of the terms he used, the two of them were from Greek mythology.

"Well, it's one of the items that helped me escape."

"What does it do then?" I asked. How does a bell help Nova from escaping his family?

"What it does is it rings in two ways. It will ring continuously when danger is near, the louder it is the nearer the danger is. And if you hear a ring that resembles a heartbeat. Two beats, a pause, and it repeats, it means that you have met a fated someone." That seemed interesting, but I would really have no use for that.

"Anyway, this is the nearest enchanted item that I can retrieve, I promise that I would get all ten and give them to you." He really didn't have to, as long as he fulfills his first promise of money.

A random object fell on my lap. It was out of nowhere that I almost jumped.

"A pen?" To be exact, it's a fountain pen.

"What does it do?" I asked as I opened the glass case and took it out. It slowly glowed and the plain black pen was suddenly engraved with gold designs.

'S.D' It was written on the end of the pen in a calligraphy form.

"I knew it, it already recognized you. The pen creates whatever your heart truly desires, it can write like any pen of course but it can only be wielded by 1 person, and that's you." Nova knew that this was the right item for Demi. His enchanted items can only recognize and owner that's worthy. It was a tool that was solely made for humans, He can use it but it wouldn't help him with anything.

"How could you know I wouldn't wish for every riches and pleasure in the galaxy?" Demi looked up at Nova, how could he carelessly give something so important-no, even more, important than any lives to her? It's like handing some random person a nuclear weapon out of nowhere.

"Pft, bwahaha! The pen chose you!"

"Still! You shouldn't be that gullible, you're like handing out war weapons to random strangers on the street, you can't do that."

"It's purpose is to create. It only recognizes those with potential."

"Potential to what?"

"Hmm, that...You need to find that out yourself." He couldn't say what the "potential" was, or the pen wouldn't recognize her anymore.

"Just warning though, it's a double-edged sword." Demi was looking at the pen in her hand, she just shuddered and put it back in the glass case. I better make sure that never, in any circumstance, would she hold that pen again.
