36 – Welcome back, dear

When I burst into that hospital room, Malia was having her blood drawn. Her eyes lit up with recognition and sadness when she saw me.

"Love," I say, drawn out and holding her hands, leaning slightly over her. "I'm sorry, I should have gone with you. I should have taken care of you, please forgive me!"

"No, Jaden!" She runs her fingers through my hair. "There's no one to blame in this story except that woman," she sighs, her eyes welling up with tears.

"It wasn't him who told me," she swallows hard. "Can we be alone?"

"Of course," I nod my head.

"Are these walls soundproof?" Malia asks, looking around.

"No," I frown.

She nods and looks at Paul, who is still tending to her. "When can I leave?"

"Well, I think if you're going back to Luna's room, you're already doing well enough," he smiles weakly at her. "I'm sorry this happened, Malia."
