I fought my way to the top, never once looking back.

But Amina?

She’s been kept away from all of that.

She has no idea what kind of man I am, or what it means to belong to someone like me.

She’s been safe for too long.

But not anymore.

Now, she’s mine.

And I’m going to enjoy every second of showing her exactly what that means.

AMINA

The door creaked open, pulling me from my thoughts.

My father stood there, his figure slouched against the frame, looking even more defeated than before.

His clothes hung off him like he had been shrinking day by day, collapsing in on himself under the weight of the world.

Dark circles framed his eyes—eyes that barely met mine now, like he couldn’t bear to look at me.

My throat tightened as I braced myself for whatever bad news he was about to deliver.

“Amina, I…”

His voice was shaky, almost fragile, like he was scared of the words that were about to come out.

“I have to talk to you.”

I felt my heart race, pounding against my ribs as a sense of dread crawled through me.

Every muscle in my body tensed.

I tried to keep my voice steady, but the fear leaked through.

“What is it?”

He took a deep breath, his shoulders sagging even lower, as though the air he was drawing in was too heavy to bear.

The silence between us stretched, thick and suffocating, like the walls were closing in.

I could feel it—something terrible was coming, something I wasn’t ready for.

He swallowed hard, his eyes flicking down to the floor, unable to face me.

“I’ve made some… decisions.”

There was something in his tone that sent a cold shock through me.

I didn’t like the sound of it, the way he said "decisions" like the word itself carried a weight neither of us could lift.

My stomach twisted, my skin prickling with a sudden chill.

“Dad, what are you talking about?”

He hesitated, shifting his weight like he was fighting an internal battle, trying to find the right words—or the least painful ones.

When he finally looked up, the devastation in his eyes hit me like a punch to the gut.

“It’s about the debts… I might have to sell something.”

The bottom dropped out of my world.

My heart stuttered, and for a moment, it felt like the room was spinning.

Sell something?

What could he possibly have left to sell?

Everything was already gone—my mother’s jewelry, the house we used to live in, the car.

There was nothing left.

Except…

My breath caught in my throat, and a horrible, suffocating realization settled over me.

No.

No, it couldn’t be.

“Sell what?” I whispered, my voice barely audible, though the words felt like they were screaming inside my head.

He hesitated again, and I saw it.

The shame, the guilt—everything he wasn’t saying.

He wouldn’t look at me, his eyes darting anywhere but toward mine, as though if he didn’t say it out loud, it wouldn’t be real.

But I knew.

I felt it in my bones, the weight of the inevitable pressing down on me, choking me.

My heart pounded so hard I thought I might pass out.

I couldn’t breathe, and my hands were trembling, but I forced myself to ask the question again, even though I was terrified of the answer.

“Please, Dad…” My voice cracked. “Don’t say it.”

He finally met my gaze, and the expression on his face shattered me.

His lips quivered, and for a moment, I saw the broken man he had become, beaten down by life and by choices that were no longer his own.

“I… I don’t have a choice, Amina,” he whispered, his voice thick with regret. “They… they want you.”

I felt the floor fall away beneath me, like I was sinking into a bottomless pit.

My chest tightened, and the air seemed to vanish from the room.

“No,” I said, shaking my head, my voice breaking. “No, you can’t do this. You can’t.”

“I tried—”

His voice broke, and he took a step toward me, desperate.

“I tried everything, Amina. I begged them, I offered them everything else, but it wasn’t enough. They want you.”

Each moment brought her closer to understanding the complexities of this world. After the meeting concluded, I pulled her aside, my tone turning serious.“You did well. I can see you’re starting to grasp the dynamics.”“I’m just trying not to drown,” she said, her voice tinged with frustration.“You’re not going to drown. You’re learning to swim,” I reassured her. “But there’s more to this than just survival. There are choices you’ll have to make, and some of them won’t be easy.”“What do you mean?” she asked, curiosity flashing in her eyes.“Relationships in this world are complicated. Sometimes you’ll have to ally with people you don’t trust. Sometimes you’ll need to play your cards close to your chest,” I explained.“So you want me to become a shark too?”“Only if you want to survive,” I replied, my tone firm.29AMINAAs I absorbed his words, I realized the truth in them. This wasn’t just about me anymore.I had been thrown into a world of danger, and if I wanted to escape, I need

“Here’s where the real power dynamics unfold,” I said, gesturing to the long table where many of my associates gathered for meetings. “You’ll see familiar faces here, and I want you to remember them.”As we took our seats, I noticed the way Amina’s eyes darted around the room, absorbing every detail. There were six people gathered at the table, each with their own reputation—some feared, others respected.“This is important, Amina. Pay attention,” I said as I introduced the players. “To my left is Marcus, the enforcer. He’s loyal but dangerous, and crossing him would be a mistake.”I watched as Amina’s eyes widened, taking in the information.“To my right is Elena, a businesswoman with connections that could make or break you. Always play nice with her.”“Right,” she said, her tone dry. “And what about you? What do I need to know about you?”I leaned back, a smirk playing on my lips. “You should know I’m not to be underestimated. I’m the one who holds the cards, and you’re part of my

My mind was still buzzing from the whirlwind of emotions from the previous night.Arben’s world was vast and unfamiliar, and as much as I wanted to resist it, I knew I had to adapt.I swung my legs over the side of the bed and rubbed my eyes, still trying to shake off the remnants of sleep. The room was quiet, the stillness almost eerie.I glanced around, taking in the lavish decor—plush rugs, elegant furnishings, and a closet filled with clothes that looked far more expensive than anything I’d ever owned.“Wow, I’ve hit the jackpot,” I muttered sarcastically to myself, recalling how I had been sold like a piece of meat at that auction.I needed to find a way to escape this gilded cage, but part of me was curious about what lay beyond those walls.I decided to explore the room a bit more.As I opened the closet doors, I found even more clothes that were tailored to perfection—dresses that felt like they belonged on a runway.I tugged at a soft sweater, slipping it over my head, feelin

I had to try on a few pieces of clothes, if only to distract myself from the whirlwind of emotions churning inside me.I picked a soft, lacy black top that seemed to glow under the light. It was beautiful, but it felt like it belonged to someone else.I wondered how many other women Arben had been with before me…How many other women he’d slept with, and why he found me so special that he decided to buy me.I was just an ordinary woman who’d lived a sheltered lifestyle.I didn’t like the idea of Arben having touched so many other women before me.Being in his line of work, he was bound to.I shuddered at the thought. What was this?Jealousy?Over a man I had known for just a day?I scowled, shutting off my thoughts.I slipped it on, the fabric hugging my body in a way that sent a thrill through me.The sight in the mirror was unfamiliar. The reflection staring back at me was someone I didn’t recognize—someone alluring and yet terrified.Taking a deep breath, I spun around in front of

The lace would tease at her skin, showing just enough to be enticing.I could see her standing in front of the mirror, her uncertain smile turning into confidence as she caught a glimpse of the woman she was becoming. The fabric would fit perfectly around her waist, showing off her hips and the way her body tapered down to her thighs. Then there was the deep red dress I picked out.The color would look amazing on her.The neckline would dip just enough to hint at her cleavage, inviting anyone to look closer.I imagined her twirling in the dress, the fabric swirling around her and drawing attention to her lovely legs. The dress would catch the light, making her look even more stunning.I could already feel my heart race at the thought of seeing her in it.What captivated me most were her curves, the way her body was shaped like a work of art.She had a small waist that contrasted with her generous hips, and there was something about her that felt almost magical.I could picture how her

I forced a nod, though inside I felt anything but okay.“I’ll be fine,” I replied, trying to sound more confident than I felt. But my voice wavered slightly, betraying my unease. He stepped closer, his presence filling the space with an electric tension.“If you need anything, just call. I’ll have someone nearby to assist you.”“Right,” I said, crossing my arms as if to shield myself from the swirling emotions inside me. “Thanks.”His lips curled into a slight smile, but it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “You’re not a prisoner here, Amina. You have freedom, but it’s limited for your own safety. Remember that.”I bit my lip, trying to understand what he meant by “freedom.”I wasn’t sure I felt free at all.“I’ll try to keep that in mind,” I replied, my tone dripping with sarcasm.“I mean it,” he said, his voice turning serious. “This world isn’t safe, and you’re in the middle of it now. You need to stay aware.”As he turned to leave, a wave of disappointment washed over me.It was strang
