Chapter 9

On hearing Lucas say those words, Josephine’s excitement died and she frowned almost immediately before leaning her back against the chair and folding her arms together. She turned her head to the side, looking clearly disappointed and just then, her eyes met with the owner of the restaurant who offered her a smile before taking her eyes away.

“I didn’t say you can’t eat,” Lucas said and the frown on Josephine’s forehead deepened.

She turned her head back to look at him and she asked, “Are you playing me right now?”

“No,” came Lucas simple response as he stared into her eyes. He continued, “If you want the food, then it comes with a price.”

Josephine sighed and said, “Do I have to remind you again that I have no money? I am literally poor right now.”

“Not that kind of price,” Lucas said and rest his back on the chair. “I have questions and I need answers from you, Josephine,” Lucas said her name for the first time.
