Two years of a wretched secret marriage that no one but close family knew about.
Two years of living like strangers.
Alexander Adam Thorne had a thorn stuck to him. No, it was not his name. It was a woman who had latched herself to his name - Inaya Thorne.
The spoiled and rotten heiress of the McBell family.
The McBells sounded like some modern American aristocracy.
And they were.
They had all the money in the world. They had enough money to BUY the whole damn world. And maybe the Moon and Mars, with what money they would have left.
But Daddy’s rotten princess did not want money.
No, she did not.
She wanted Alexander Adam Thorne.
Tech tycoon and the most eligible bachelor in the whole of North America.
And had him she did.
Parker McBell, the richest man on the planet and the father of the century, made sure that his rotten princess’s every desire was fulfilled.
As Carl Jung once said, “No tree, it is said, can grow to heaven until its roots reach down to hell.”
And Parker McBell? He was a sandalwood tree. His root parasitised in hell, so he could become the untouchable man he is today.
But that did not mean that Alexander was going to back down.
The day had come to confront his demons and get rid of the blood-sucking vampire in his life.

Alexander checked his watch every four seconds.
Inaya was late. She always was. The woman was as beautiful as an angel as she was evil as a demon.
She spent her days wasting money. Her pet bird’s daily routine costs more than an average person’s monthly income. She did whatever she wanted. She invested in the most bizarre projects - her last one was a company that sold strawberry-shaped chocolate dipped in strawberry sauce. Iconic and hilarious, she said.
She did weekly nuances at their mansion, to invite spirits of abundance into her life, like she had a shortage of anything she ever wanted.
She had a thing for crystals, so she had a two-storeyed monstrosity of a room dedicated to her most prized crystal collection. A heist in that place would feed a whole economy.
But Inaya did not care about the economy.
Or anybody in general.
And Alexander? Alexander was just like her crystals, paintings and whatever else trinkets she had at home. She collected them and then did not spare them a second glance.
It was exactly what Alexander wanted this marriage to be, but he would be lying if he said the blatant disregard did not sting his pride a little.
But it did not matter.
Today, he was going to put an end to it all.
He checked his watch one more time before picking up his phone to call her.
The moment he dialled her number, she appeared at the entrance.
Alexander scowled as he placed his phone back inside his suit pocket.
Did she have to look so godly the day he was ending their marriage?
It was their wedding anniversary, and she probably expected the usual dinner that was served on every special occasion they shared.
But today, she looked prettier. Her eyeliner was darker, and was that glitter in her wild curls which sprung free no matter how many stylists tried to tame it?
“Inaya.” It was his only greeting as he stood up, being the gentleman one last time, and pulled her chair out for her.
Inaya, obviously, one-upped him. Her only greeting was a nod as she sat down glumly and pulled the chair forward before he could.
Alexander bit back a curse and sat down in his own chair.
Alexander was no coward, but he wasn’t a fool either. He knew better than to upset the rotten princess and deal with her Daddy’s wrath.
The attendant arrived.
“The steak here is-” Alexander started, but was promptly cut off.
“I will have the lobster. I want it seared in a spicy sauce, and I want it deshelled.” Inaya was already on the wine page. “Pinot Noir, nineteen-ninety. We will take two.” She put the menu down.
“Ma’am, we only sell that by the-”
“We will take two bottles.” She corrected, rolling her eyes at the flustered woman. Her husband sighed - she downed more wine than water.
The attendant nodded, scurrying away after jolting down Alexander’s order as well.
Inaya finally looked at him. “I don’t see why you must put on this spectacle anyway. I am sure I can tell Daddy you planned something more private and exquisite.”
Alexander raised a brow. “And you will be okay with that?”
She shrugged, “I am okay with anything not having to do with all this pretence.”
Alexander had to fight his snicker. Her words were not suitable for a woman whose whole life was a pretence. But he could not say that out, so he opted for a more neutral nod.
He fished out the jewellery box from his suit pocket. “Happy second anniversary, Mrs. Thorne.” He opened the box to reveal a purple amethyst pendant. It was a tiny, intricately cut crescent moon. It looked like a cheap piece of jewellery, but it was an Egyptian craftsmanship that had cost him a couple of grand just to get in contact with.
Alexander did not think she would really appreciate it, but he wanted to give her a meaningful parting gift - and he could not think of anything that she loved more than the moon and all the rocks in her collection.
Inaya stared at it for a good moment before, quite unceremoniously, snatching the box from his hands, tossing a key at him. He fumbled but caught it while looking dumbfounded at his wife.
“Asenath.” She murmured. “You got me a piece made by Asenath?”
Alexander blinked. It struck him that it was stupid of him to assume that the richest rotten princess would not know about this. But she never showed interest. The way she looked at it was like she was gifted something she had wanted all her life. Which was weird. This woman could have anything she ever wanted.
“What is this?” He held up the key. “A new car?” Of course, she needed to one-up his gift.
“Yacht.” She murmured, but her eyes were tracing every teeny detail on the stone.
She took out her phone and zoomed in.
Alexander gulped.
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
“Happily forever apart?” She looked up.
“Huh?” He did not know what to say. He had counted on her not being interested in this. That this piece of jewellery would go into her discarded cove of expensive ornaments.
“I want a divorce.” Alexander blurted out. It was now or never anyway.
“Huh?” She mirrored his previous expression.
“A divorce.” He nodded, making up his mind not to back down now. “I want a divorce.”
Inaya placed the box down, staring into his eyes for a long moment before her own ocean blues widened.
“Yes!” She squealed so loudly that it almost had him toppling backward in his chair, and the table having the entire restaurant’s attention.
She was suddenly on her feet and the confused man had no choice but to follow suit. “A hundred times, YES!”
Her face was pure mirth and Alexander had never felt so out of it in his whole life.
The other patrons and attendants cheered as Inaya walked around the table to hug her dumbfounded husband. “Thank you thank you thank you, Xander. You have made me the happiest woman on the planet. I thought you would never ask. Thank you so much!”
Inaya looked over the moon, the public reacted like he had just proposed marriage.
And Alexander stood there like an idiot, unable to perceive what exactly was happening.

______
____...Alexander stared at his reflection in the fogged-up mirror, running his hand over the glass pane to get a clearer view. His neck and chest were peppered with love bites and nail marks. They had really gone ahead and consummated their marriage. The broken condom was making his heart race. Considering how bad things were already going, he made a mental note to personally make sure that Inaya took her emergency contraceptive to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. But would a child be so bad?The primal side of him was hooked. He was obsessed with his wife. “This is not good.”“What is not good?” Alexander jumped at the sudden intrusion, turning immediately to face his wife, glad in a silk robe. “Nothing!”“Done using the bathroom?” Inaya walked over to stand in front of the mirror, her skin a red and blue canvas of Alexander's strength and passion. He winced at the bruises on her wrists and thighs. He didn't need to see to know that her waist must have taken the worst of it.
____...Inaya lowered herself to the sheets scattered with white rose petals, and it was all the invitation Alexander needed. He climbed on top of her, both of their legs dangling off the foot end as he captured her moist, sweet lips in his.Inaya was as receptive as she was in the fantasies he refused to acknowledge, wrapping her arms around his neck and tugging him towards her to eliminate any inch of space between them. She chuckled into his mouth. Alexander pulled away enough to growl a “What?”, his pupils blown wide as he stared hungrily at the forbidden fruit he had resisted for two years. “It’s gonna be hard taking off this dress.” Alexander felt his body heat up hotter than he thought possible. If he had any doubt about pulling away or being rejected, she had doused it with that single statement. She wanted him as much as he wanted her, and that was a reassurance that he desperately needed. Alexander pushed her up to settle comfortably on the bed, kissing the thin line
____...Inaya pressed her lips together, pretending to be emotional and keeping her tears in check, when, in actuality, the clinking of the crystals on her chandelier dress was cracking her up, and she was doing everything in her power not to double over laughing at the ridiculousness in the middle of the aisle. The cherry on top was the grimace that Alexander was fighting. Poor guy, but he chose this for himself. He had the chance to walk away. She was ready to give it to him on a golden crystal-embedded platter if he asked it of her. But no, the man had decided to stay out of sheer greed. And now, he would have to pay the price - she would make sure that he regretted this greed for as long as they continued to stay married.Parker McBell sniffled as he handed her over to her husband, making both of them fight eyerolls. They had been married two years, and he was acting as if he was giving his child away for the first time. If the great McBell was anywhere near a decent man, A
_____...The wedding was the next day. The wedding was the next day. He was done for. He would have to drag this marriage on for another year or so before they could part, and then it would be a public scandal. The only thing he could do was become unconquerable by that time. It was the only way. “Damn it!” He threw his whiskey glass to the wall, shattered shards littered the floor as the liquid ran down the premium matte paint. “Fuck!” “You know,” He jumped, turning around to look at the silhouette. He had not realised that she was home, or that she was here. “You don’t have to try so hard.” She stepped into the light. She was clad in a silk teal robe that barely reached her thigh, and her hair was down. She was the devil, she was a siren, and she was just so damn beautiful - looking as sweet as a forbidden fruit. He took in her appearance - her clean face, her exposed chest, her long, smooth legs, and the ebony hair that framed her heart-shaped face, curls no one could eve
