“Crap, I’m late!”. Leila screamed to no one in particular. She had an important meeting with Mr. Hasters this morning by 9am and she just waking up by 8:50am. There was no way she would dress up and make it to the office in ten minutes. She was cooked!
Leila stepped into the office and the mood in there was close to make her panic. Scrap that, she panicked!.She opened the door to the adjoining office and Gavin Hasters was seated, his face buried in his tablet. She broke the silence “I’m very sorry sir. I had a family emergency this morning. It won’t happen again”. She said in a low voice. “Miss Baker, this is your first strike. We had an important meeting in order to go over and seal our deal with the Bancrofts”. “Is there anything I can do to make this up sir.” Leila had already decided to do anything to make this right Gavin Hasters set his tablet down slowly, his piercing blue eyes locking onto Leila as she stood awkwardly near the door. “You want to make this up?” he said. “The Bancrofts are attending a charity gala tonight. I’ll need someone by my side who understands the terms of the deal we’re proposing. Can you handle that?” A gala? She wasn’t exactly prepared for something like that. She had never even been in that kind of setting before, But she couldn’t afford to mess this up any further. “Of course, sir. I’ll be there.” “Good.” His voice was cold, dismissive. “Be ready by seven. And dress appropriately.” Leila nodded quickly, excused herself, and practically ran back to her desk. She texted Frank in a panic. Leila: I need a gown for tonight. Urgently. Something that screams “I’m not a complete disaster.” Frank: What happened? Leila: Long story. Just help me, please By 6:30 p.m., Leila was standing in front of her mirror. Frank had come through with a sleek, black floor-length dress that hugged her figure in all the right places. Her hair was swept into an elegant bun, and a pair of silver earrings added complimented her high face and long neck. She barely even recognized herself. Her phone buzzed with a message from Gavin’s driver, informing her that the car was waiting downstairs. With a deep breath, she grabbed her clutch and headed out. The gala was held at one of the city’s most luxurious venue, a ballroom adorned with glittering chandeliers and known for important events. The moment she stepped inside, Leila felt completely out of place. This was not her kind of gathering at all. The room was filled with executives, celebrities, and socialites, all dressed to the nines. She wondered why her boss did not invite his fiancée. Gavin was already there, standing near the bar with a glass of whiskey in hand, looking devastatingly handsome in a tailored black tuxedo. When he saw her, his gaze swept over her from head to toe, lingering just long enough to make her cheeks flush. “You clean up well, Miss Baker,” he said, handing her a glass of champagne. “Thank you,” she said, trying not to sound too happy. The night was a blur of introductions, small talk, and negotiations. Leila was surprised at how Gavin moved through the crowd, charming everyone he spoke to. She did her best to keep up, chiming in when necessary and making mental notes of everything she observed. When the event officially ended, Gavin turned to her, “There’s an afterparty upstairs,” he said, his voice low. “Care to join me?” Leila hesitated. She should probably go home and call it a night, but there was something about the way he was looking at her that made her pulse race. “Sure,” she said, her voice barely audible. The afterparty was a more intimate affair, held in a private suite. The crowd was smaller. “You’re full of surprises, Miss Baker,” Gavin said, his voice smooth. “How so?” she asked, sipping her drink. “You handled yourself well tonight,” he said, his eyes locked on hers. “I’m impressed” “Is that a compliment?” she teased, the alcohol giving her a boost of courage. “It is.” His gaze dropped to her lips, lingering for a fraction of a second. “Don’t let it go to your head.” She opened her mouth to respond, but the words never came. Gavin leaned in, his hand brushing against her cheek as he closed the distance between them. The kiss was slow at first, testing, but it quickly deepened. Leila’s head was spinning and she wasn’t sure if it was the champagne or the way Gavin was pulling her closer, his hand settling on the small of her back. Everything in her was screaming for her to stop but she couldn’t. She was too addicted to the way he was kissing her. “Let’s get out of here,” he murmured against her lips. Her heart pounded as she nodded, unable to find her voice. Gavin stood, taking her hand and leading her out of the suite. The hallway was quiet, their footsteps the only sound as they made their way to the elevator. When the elevator doors closed, Gavin wasted no time. He pressed her against the wall, his lips crashing onto hers with a hunger that made her knees weak. She clung to him, her fingers tangling in his hair as the world outside the elevator ceased to exist. They barely made it to the hotel room. The second the door clicked shut, Gavin had her pinned against it, his hands exploring her as if he couldn’t get enough. Clothes were discarded in a blur, and when they finally reached the bed, Leila was lost in him—his touch, his scent, the way he whispered her name like it was the only thing that mattered. Each thrust made her feel like it was only both of them that mattered. When Leila woke up the next morning, the sun was peeking through the curtains, Her head pounded, and for a moment, she wasn’t sure where she was. Then the events of the night before came rushing back. She turned her head to find Gavin lying beside her, his expression peaceful in sleep. Her heart raced as reality set in. What had she done? Quietly, she slipped out of bed, gathering her clothes and dressing as quickly as she could. She couldn’t face him, not now, not like this. As she reached for the door, Gavin’s voice stopped her. “Running away, Miss Baker?” Her breath caught, and she turned to see him propped up on one elbow“I—” She struggled to find the words, “I don’t know,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “This… this was a mistake.” He stepped closer, his gaze never leaving hers. “Was it?” Leila swallowed hard, the intensity of his stare making her feel as though he could see straight into her soul. “I—” Before she could finish, her phone buzzed in her bag. She pulled it out, grateful for the distraction, but her blood ran cold when she saw the message from Frank. Frank: You’re all over the news. Call me ASAP. “What is it?” Gavin asked, his expression darkening. Leila turned the phone toward him, her hand trembling. On the screen was a headline accompanied by a blurry photo of the two of them leaving the party together: “CEO Gavin Hasters Spotted With Mystery Woman After Gala—Is He Cheating On Adele Cooper?” Her heart sank. This wasn’t just a mistake. This was a disaster.Leila sighed heavily, she had no idea HR would be involved in this. She licked her lips, the weather was cold and she was not in the mood to start applying lip balm on her lips. She was not sure if Gavin was coming in to work today and honestly, she did not care, all she wanted was to forget him. She was not going to be the reason a family would be scattered, courtesy of Adele and the baby. She cleared her throat as she made her way to the Human Relations Office, immediately she entered, she met serious faces and she knew it was not a good news. “Good morning, I was informed to come and see HR” Leila said smoothly.“Have a seat Miss Baker” A bald headed man replied. She sat down, She was not familiar with his name and she was too tired to start asking so she just keep mute as the man continued what he was saying. “I’ll get straight to it. We’ve received a report concerning a personal relationship between you and Mr. Hasters. Specifically, that the relationship may have become intima
Leila burst into laughter. She was not sure she heard her mother right but the words she heard sounded like her mom telling her to move back to Cali. “Mom, I am not a child and you can not meddle in my life” Her mother looked at her with sad eyes, “I gave birth to you and I do have a say in what goes on in your life Leily. You are not happy here and I did not believe it before but your friend, Adele brought me here to confirm it. I think you should move back home” Leila rolled her eyes, her head was throbbing lightly, this was not even the right time for this conversation, she was tired, her day had been a total mixture of sadness and anger and frustration and her mom decided to spring this whole thing on her, she cleared her throat quietly, “I am happy here, my life is here, I work here. I can not just up and leave when things do not go my way and lastly! Adele is not my friend!” Mrs Baker gave her a resigned look before resuming what she was saying, “Well if you decide to not fo
Leila was not sure how much time had passed as she sat on the floor. The world was spinning and she was still, she felt like a ghost, like sitting on the sidewalk between sanity and mental disorder. Her life was spiraling downwards and there was nothing she could do about it. The day managed to make her feel optimistic, sad, angry, bitter and heartbroken and the day had still not ended. She could not remember the point Gavin left but it was starting to feel like hours. She remembered shouting at him to leave her alone. Everything else felt like a blur. “Leily?” Her mother called out. Crap! she had forgotten her mother was still in New York, she had to make her leave so she could at least break down in peace. It was not ideal to bottle up everything she was feeling. Maybe she should have taken that job offer from Adele before it got to this, she was pretty sure the offer was no longer on the table considering everything that had happened since then and not to crown it all with Adele’s
It took Leila all she had not to tear up. The apartment was the best gift she had ever received, her feelings were probably just everywhere but she was looking for different ways to thank Gavin for making her smile. The interior decor was plain white with a splash of grey, minimalistic and light just as she liked it, she was surprised he could guess her taste so well. The living room was large and compared to where she was living before? This living room was like three times the space of the other one. She actually smiled genuinely, not forced or anything. She was really happy. She looked up at him with teary eyes, “This is too much Gavin, too much”Gavin Hasters smiled, “Nothing is too much for you Leily-bear, I mean, I do not mean to be too forward or anything and I know we are just starting to know each other on a personal level but you have made me happy in the little time that i have known you than I have been with any other person. You are perfect baby and I would like to expres
Wait, he was kissing her in public, she tried pushing him off but he only stopped kissing her why he was ready and whispered in her ears, “If they want a show then that is what we are going to give them baby. I have nothing to lose”Leila ran her fingers through his head before kissing him back with everything in her. She kissed him passionately like he was everything and the click of a camera made her pull away from him. Her lips were kiss swollen and she looked flush. Damn! That was good. She smiled at him and he took her hands into his. She braced herself to look at the surroundings and she saw that they had managed to pull in a crowd. She was a little bit shy for having that public display of affection outside but she could not care less as it was. She had gone through so much today and that one kiss made her feel powerful, like a boss. Leila Baker knew she had a hold on Gavin but him breaking up with Adele? She thought it was extreme but she kept her thoughts to herself, she was
Leila stood there, her head was throbbing, her day was looking like a curse at this point. She forced herself to not breakdown, the tears were threatening to come but she smiled through it, clearing her throat lightly before replying, “I am very sorry sir and respectfully, i do not think I would place myself in a position to lie on television. Mr. Hasters and I were at fault and I do not believe I should be the only one to take the fall for both of us” Mormont laughed sarcastically, “The meeting is over Miss Baker, you can help yourself out. Thank you.” Leila smiled awkwardly. She picked up the files from the table and took slow strides out of the room. While outside, she took deep breaths to calm herself down. She needed to talk to someone soon, she was on the verge of breakdown. Her phone beeped and she checked her lock screen, it was from Gavin, ‘How did the meeting go baby? Handled it well? I have no idea why Armstrong is blowing up my phone. Is something wrong baby?’ Leila
Leila felt like time had stopped, her legs were beginning to hurt and her head was aching and she could feel her heart in her mouth and the list could go on and on. Everything was wrong today. She was already starting to regret why she came in to work today. She could have stayed an extra day and even if this happened, it would have given her an heads up and maybe she could have braced herself well enough and talked herself on how to cope with being the center of attention till the whole thing blew over. Leila Baker sighed, today was definitely going to be a long day and it was not even close to end of the work day for her. She was sure the meeting could not have lasted for more than ten minutes but it felt longer now that she thought about it. She felt like she was there and she was not also there. Like her body was there and her mind was somewhere else entirely. Someone clearing their throat brought her back to being present in the board room. “I asked if you were just his secr
Jones left after throwing her tantrums and playing the victim like she was the ‘fiancée’. Leila sat down on the office desk, she was beyond humiliated, she was mortified. This was a nightmare. And there was nobody she could call right now. The meeting was in less than 30 minutes and she was very sure the board members would have hear about the SECRETARY SLEEPING WITH HER BOSS. Leila was so close to having a panic attack. The thing is, she was wrong to underestimate Adele. She braced up herself to text Frank, she knew he had not seen or heard anything, that is why he has not come rushing to her office. She dropped a quick emergency text for him and in less that two minutes, he was beside her. His expression was gloomy, he probably heard and did not want to tell her till after she was done with the meeting but Jones had told her and now she was not sure if she could speak boldly at the executive meeting. Those people that made up the board were selfish, rich and obnoxious people that di
Leila stepped into the company feeling like a boss. She felt really optimistic about resuming work. Everything was going smoothly for her. She got into the elevator that led her to the executive floor, that was where she stayed because she was the secretary to the CEO. And she was literally sleeping with him. The thought of it made her giggle. “Miss Baker, good morning, I heard you were feeling under the weather, hope you are good and feeling better now? Jone asked. Leila smiled in response and immediately the elevator notified her that it was her black, she left hurriedly. She did not mean to be rude but Skinny legged Jone always got on her nerves by acting sweet all the time even though almost every one knew she was a big gossiper that did not like her business. She could not deal with that today and given the type of mood she was in, she was sure the day would go on smoothly. She got to her desk and dropped her bag before going to Gavin’s office to check out the files that had
