LOGINALEXANDER
I sat on my bed, panting. The damp fabric clung to my skin, reminding me that my nightdress was soaked with sweat. My chest rose and fell rapidly as I struggled to catch my breath. I hadn’t even realized someone else was in the room until Christina asked softly, “My Lady, are you alright?”
I turned to her, blinked a few times, and shook my head.
Worry creased her face as she moved closer. “Should I get the Alpha?” she asked.
“There is no need,” I replied quickly. I had already angered Alpha Damon the last time he came to my room. Even if he were told I was dying, I doubted he would show up.
Christina sat beside me on the bed and studied me for a moment before asking gently, “Was it a dream? Do you want to share it with me?”
Again, I shook my head. I was already used to keeping things to myself.
I was still anxious, my thoughts tangled around the dream, when Christina reminded me that breakfast was ready.
At once, my worries seemed to scatter. I climbed out of bed, hurried into the bathroom, and washed up. When I came out, I sat down and ate.
As I ate, I heard the maids gossiping nearby. I knew they were being deliberate, whispering just loudly enough for me to hear.
“Elder Gideon is about to take a new wife. I only hope his second wife won’t be as unfortunate as the first.”
“That’s not even the real issue. Many of the Elders have stopped attending council meetings. They are afraid the Alpha will order them to lead the troops against the invaders.”
I pretended not to hear them. It wasn’t as though I had any power to influence the pack. But then one maid said something that caught my full attention.
“The palace is preparing to welcome envoys from our allies.”
The food in my mouth instantly lost its taste.
I returned to my room, no longer in the mood to speak with Christina or the palace nanny. By the middle of the night, I felt Alpha Damon’s presence in my room.
I turned and looked at him. I didn’t know how long he had been standing there, but he seemed lost in thought. Then he said, “For someone who was unloved by his family, you certainly sleep a lot.”
I couldn’t tell whether it was meant as a joke or a mockery, but I could still feel the resentment in his voice. I gripped the bedsheet tightly and swallowed nervously.
Then he said, “Rest well. You are going to entertain the envoys tomorrow.”
I wanted to protest. I opened my mouth, but none of the words I had rehearsed in my head came out.
I watched as he leapt out of the window and disappeared into the darkness.
After that, I lay silently on my bed, unsure of what to think.
Still, I made up my mind. If they sent me to serve the visiting envoys, I would resist.
Sleep would not come. I rose from my bed and looked out over the pack’s castle. The atmosphere was heavy, gloomy, and tense. From the northern wall, I could see thick smoke rising into the air.
With some difficulty, I climbed back into my room from the balcony.
That night, I barely slept.
The next day was filled with preparations. Everyone in the palace moved about busily except me. I only ate and rested, staring blankly as the hours passed. By nightfall, the pack castle had grown noisy.
It was then I realized I would likely be sent to serve the envoys. As unreliable as my father was, he remained the only person who might be able to stop Alpha Damon from carrying out his plan.
“My Lady, do you want me to bring your father to the palace?” Christina asked in disbelief. She clearly had not expected such a request. In fact, she knew my father was the last person I would ever want to see.
“I want to talk to my father, please,” I answered helplessly.
Christina nodded and left, though a strange expression lingered on her face.
“Alexander, did you miss Daddy?” my father’s voice came from the doorway, arrogant and audacious.
The door to my room burst open, and he stormed in. The stench of alcohol clung heavily to him.
He looked around, then said without restraint, “Very soon, your father will take charge of the Council of Elders. Do you know what that means? Years ago, if someone had told me I would become an elder, I would have called that person mad. But now, I am not just an elder—I will soon be the First Elder, the head of the council. I was once just an insignificant orphan of the pack, someone everyone looked down on, but now everything has changed. Hahaha!”
He laughed in excitement, then looked at me and seemed to remember that I was the one who had summoned him. He waved a dismissive hand.
“I forgot—you can’t communicate properly like others. It would be a waste of time telling you about my achievements. Why did you want to see me?”
That was when I quickly walked to the door and shut it. After making sure no servants were guarding it or lingering in the hallway, I turned back to him.
My father furrowed his brows, looking slightly displeased. “Dad, I need your help.”
My father’s eyes darkened with curiosity. “With what?”
“Alpha Damon wants to send me to another man’s bed. I don’t want to, Dad. The thought of it nauseates me, and I would rather kill myself than be humiliated like that,” I said.
To my shock, my father merely snorted.
“Stop listening to gossip. Such a thing wouldn’t happen.”
ALEXANDERI didn’t know either. It just felt like nothing I ever wished for came true. I prayed every day for my father’s love, but I was never loved by my own father. I wished for a peaceful childhood, but my stepfather tortured me constantly. My dreams and hopes for a better future were always shattered by reality.I looked away from the window and sat on my bed before saying to Christina, “I’m hungry.”She didn’t stay for a reply. Christina quietly turned and left, then returned a short while later with my breakfast. After I finished eating, I expected the maids to drag me to the bathroom, scrub me clean, force clothes onto me, and then take me to the high platform where I would be crowned. But to my shock, Chris leaped through the window and landed inside my room. He looked at me with a grin on his face. Glancing outside, I guessed he had jumped over thirty feet to get in.“You shouldn’t resist. Just go along with his plans. You’ll be leaving the pack at dusk tomorrow,” Chris said
ALEXANDERChristina’s words caught me off guard. I stared at her in surprise, and when she noticed she had my full attention, she continued excitedly.“That was the reason Alpha Damon started visiting your home. I don’t know what went wrong for him to fall in love with Tracy instead of you.”I pressed my lips together and tried to remember. When I was five years old, whenever my stepmother, Jezebel, starved me, Alpha Damon would sneak into our house and bring me food. It went on like that for months. But after he stopped my stepmother from selling me off, everything changed. He refused to speak to me. He no longer bothered with me, and even when I tried to talk to him, he ignored me.But all of that was in the past.Especially after I became fatter, he would look at me with so much disgust that I no longer dared to appear before him.I looked at Christina and said, “There is nothing you can say that will change my mind. I have no feelings for Alpha Damon.”Christina stared at me silen
ALEXANDER“Why are you doing all this?” I asked Alpha Damon. He clearly hadn’t expected the question. Surprise creased his face, and for a moment, he said nothing.I held his gaze, then shook my head.“You may be able to fool everyone else, but you’ll never fool me. You don’t have feelings for me, and all this won’t change anything. I think you should end this game you’re playing. My father was here earlier, but neither he nor anyone else can change my mind. If I get the chance, I will leave the pack.”Alpha Damon’s face darkened, and he glared at me.“Why?” he demanded. “Why can’t I make up for the mistakes I made? Why?”I sneered at him.“One time is a mistake. Twice is not. Repeatedly? That’s intention. That’s exactly what you chose to do. So stop calling it a mistake.”His jaw tightened. Then he let out a harsh, bitter laugh.“It wasn’t a mistake,” he said coldly. “I forced you to sleep with those men. I forced myself on you. None of it was a mistake. It was all exactly what I wan
ALEXANDERI was shocked by Chris’s confidence. I looked at him doubtfully, but he said nothing more. Instead, he leaped away and disappeared into the midst of the flowers.I didn’t dwell much on his words. Turning around, I returned to my room. The lights were out, but with my sharp eyesight, I could still make out a silhouette standing by the window. From his styled hair, the knife tattoo on the back of his neck, and his posture, I already knew it was Damon. I was surprised that he had been watching Chris and me talk in the garden all along, and I was certain he had heard everything we discussed.“What are you doing in my room?” I asked, uneasy at being alone with him there. He didn’t turn to look at me. He simply retorted, “You really couldn’t wait to leave the pack with my uncle, could you? Are you always this desperate for a taste of new dick?”Anger flared inside me at his words, and I sneered. “I couldn’t wait to leave the pack because of your lousy skills in bed. Your uncle is
ALEXANDERI hadn’t left my room for days, and Alpha Damon hadn’t come either. By noon on the third day, Christina looked at me with pleading eyes and said softly, “My Lady, why don’t you give Alpha Damon another chance? I have watched him grow. He hurt you and acted rashly because of the pain of losing Tracy, but he has healed and become a better man. If you give him a second chance, he will treat you better.”I looked at Christina and asked, “Why did he blame me for Tracy’s death? Am I not a victim too?”Christina pursed her lips, but I didn’t let the matter go. With a sneer, I said, “Everyone hated me for a death I didn’t cause. Do you know what it means to grow up worse than an orphan?”Her eyes widened in shock at my words, but I didn’t give her time to respond. Anger poured out of me as I continued, “It means having a father, yet growing up without fatherly love. It means having a family, yet being treated worse than a slave in your own home.”My emotions surged, my chest tighten
ALEXANDERI cracked a grin and shot back, “Are you sure you can do it?”A frown settled on my father’s face as he replied irritably, “If you have something to ask, then ask it quickly. Why are you wasting time talking nonsense?”Even so, I caught the hint of wariness in his eyes. I didn’t care. Lifting my chin, I made my bold request.“I want you to send me away from the pack—to somewhere the pack has no influence, somewhere no one can reach me, somewhere no one will recognize me.”My father’s expression darkened at once, and he snapped, “Foolish child! Don’t ever think of such a thing. You will remain in this pack until the day you grow old and die. Don’t even dream of leaving.”With that, he turned away angrily and let out a disdainful snort. “What a waste. I should never have come here. She has completely ruined my mood.”I didn’t dwell much on my father’s visit. At dawn the next morning, Christina came to my room as usual. After breakfast, she informed me, “You will be having your
