I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My parents had kept a baby picture of me hidden.
My parents lied to me about the fact that I have a twin brother. I was sitting on my bed, staring at the picture with pain in my heart. How could they be so cruel to us? I sat there staring at the picture for what seemed like hours. As my mother opened my door, I jumped. I tried to conceal the photograph, but it was too late; she had seen it.
"How come you didn't tell me?" As she sighed, I demanded.
"To keep him safe," my mother explained as I frowned.
"I'm not convinced!" As she frowned, I yelled loudly.
"I don't care one bit if you don't believe me, but you can't tell anyone about you and your brother!" She snapped, yanking the photo from my grip. When I saw Gary the Alpha, I got up and followed her down stairs. As my mother handed me the picture, I quickly ducked. As he looked at her, she smiled. "What exactly are you doing here?"
"I heard you can tell when one or both of the Lycans are nearby," he said as her smile faded.
"I'm sorry, but that's not true," she said as they tightened their grip. I could sense his rage and impatience.
"If you don't tell me, I'll kill you, your husband, and little Laura before the pack," he growled as she flinched.
"I have no idea what you're talking about!" He grabbed her throat and she yelled. I gasped, desperately wanting to help her but knowing I couldn't. I crept back into my bedroom. I shut the door gently. I took out my phone and texted my father to warn him to stay away. I touched my necklace, wishing I could use it to help, but my mother warned me against using it. I know I need to find my brother in order to assist him, and if I help her, I might never find him. When I heard her screams, I knew she was being murdered.
"You must find them, Jason. You are the only one I know who can kill them!" Gary abruptly hung up the phone. As I slid under my bed, hot tears streamed down my cheeks. I held my breath as Gary ran through the house. He entered my room and opened the closet.
"I know you're here, Laura, and I won't hurt you." I paused before deciding that the only way out was to come out. Because of my mother, he has no idea I'm a powerful Lycan. She taught me to turn when the moon was full and to be cautious when it wasn't. She also taught me how to control my strength.
"Please don't hurt me, Gary," I stammered as he smirked. He circled me as he walked forward, touching my golden hair which scared the life out of me.
"Laura, I'd like for you to join my guard," he said, making me frown briefly.
"I'm only seventeen," I said quietly, as he laughed.
"So you're one of the pack's best fighters. Only you could outperform my beta, "As I pondered what to do, he said.
"Fine, but only if you spare my father," I said firmly, my lips pressed together in a tight line.
"Let's go," he said, grabbing my arm and pulling me downstairs. He dragged me over to his jeep and shoved me into the passenger seat. He sped to his house, which resembled a fortress. He parked inside next to his beta, who also happens to be his wife.
"Where should I change into proper guard uniform?" As he motioned a guard over, I inquired. I gulped, knowing that staying here posed a significant risk to my safety. If even one person noticed my birthmark, they'd know. The birthmark was in the shape of a wolf's head and was located on my left shoulder blade.
"Larry will show you," Gary said as he stepped away from me. I got out of the jeep following Larry. He had dark hair and piercing blue eyes. He handed me a black tank top, black tight pants, and black combat boots. I grabbed a thin black jacket and pulled it on. I couldn't stop laughing at their color choice.
"What do I do all day, Larry?" I inquired as I exited the restroom.
"Shadow his wife," Larry said, prompting me to enter the main house in search of Brenda. I looked around until I came across Gary and Brenda in the library. My anxiety increased when I realized they were looking into Gemini Lycans. As they read book after book, I stood against the wall next to another guard.
"Are you certain that no one in this pack had twins that we were unaware of?" Brenda asked, turning Gary's attention to me.
"Do you know who had twins, Laura?" He inquired, and I could tell he was going to examine my response with suspicion.
"No, sir, if I had, I would have told you," I insisted, hoping he couldn't tell I was lying.
"See, no one in the pack knows of any twins," he said as Brenda returned to her book.
"Hey, I found something," she said as she flipped the book around. "It's only a knife that can hurt a Gemini Lycan."
"I've seen it before," he said, his gaze drawn to mine. "At Laura's place!"
"Sir, if you like, I can go get it," I said softly, hoping he wouldn't test it on me.
"Take Larry with you," he said as I descended the stairs and entered the courtyard. I discovered Larry calling to him.
"We're going to Gary's house to get a special knife," I explained as he handed me a set of keys. "Are we riding the motorcycles?"
"Yes, let's go," he said as he led me to the bikes. I was hoping to start it up. I put on a helmet and dashed out of the compound. As we sped toward my house, my hair whipped behind me. I jumped off the bike and dashed into the house, pausing when I saw my mother staring at me blankly. I took a deep breath before entering my mother's room and grabbing the knife, being careful not to touch the blade. I approached Larry and handed it to him.
"Here it is," I said as I hopped back on the bike. I considered running as I drove, but instead continued to the compound. I had no way out of my current situation and had no idea how I was going to save myself…
When I returned home, my father was arguing with Gary inside the front door. I jumped off the bike and dashed up the steps and into the house."Dad, please stop!" I jumped in front of my father in a bid to keep him away from Gary."No, you are too young to be a member of the guard. I will never allow you stay here, "he said as I looked over at Gary, who was, to my utmost surprise, smiling mischievously. He wanted to make my father angry so that he would do something to kill him quickly. He was looking for an excuse to question him about the Gemini Lycans."This is the only way to keep you safe, Dad," I said quietly as he stiffened. "Mom is no longer alive.""Buttercup, this isn't the place for you," he said quietly as Larry rushed over to hand Gary the knife. Larry shifted his gaze to my father, his posture becoming defensive. He recognized my father as a threat. Gary raised it to inspect the blade. The blade was in motion in an instant as he attempted to stab my father. As worry floo
"Laura should go train with Jason. He wants to see your abilities before he hires you "Gary said as he walked away from me. I dashed down the hall and out the front door.I dashed into the gym from the gavel courtyard. I came across a man with brown hair and blue eyes punching a bag. I jumped as the punching bag ripped the chain and flew across the room."You must be the Laura girl I’ve heard so much about," he said breathing heavily."So you wanted to see me," I said, smiling. In one swift motion, he grabbed my arm and pinned me to the floor. I winced as my back slammed into the hard wood floor."Thank you for the heads-up.""You won't get a heads up in the field," he snapped, gripping my throat. I inhaled deeply and swung my arm, knocking his hands away before kicking him off of me.With such persuasion, I scrambled to my feet quickly. I moved slowly so as not to be noticed as being faster than everyone else."What is it that can't keep up?" As he stared at me, I smirked. He rushed
I got up early in the morning to 'hunt' the Gemini Lycans. I tossed my suitcase into the back of the truck before turning to load the motorcycles onto the truck's bed. Brenda approached me as I pinned the bikes down with a chain."Did you tell Gary anything?" She asked. I shook my head as she sighed with relief. As Jason took a file from Gary, I smiled. I was curious what Brenda would do if she found out I was one of the big bad Lycans they were hunting. I climbed into the passenger seat and shut the door. I sat there, waiting for Jason to get into the car."Are you prepared?" Jason inquired and I nodded. The truth was that I was never going to be ready to start looking for my brother, but it was the only way to find him. Finding him puts him in danger, but he's in even more danger without me.We drove all night before stopping in New Orleans."Why are we coming to a halt?" I inquired as he exited."He's been here before," Jason said as I jumped out of the car, holding a magical knife
We arrived in Dallas in the early afternoon. I stepped out of the car and followed Jason down the street. We wandered around for hours before he came to a halt in an alley and turned to face me."That smell," he exclaimed, his gaze fixed on me. As he sniffed my arm, I felt my heart rate rise. "You smell exactly like one of the Gemini Lycans.""Really?" I asked, pretending to be surprised. He looked me in the eyes and pressed his lips against mine, catching me off guard. As a warm sensation filled my body, I melted into his kiss. As the kiss intensified, I wrapped my arms around him, an electric current coursing through me. I winced as a shooting pain shot through my stomach. I gasped and yanked away, my gaze falling to the knife embedded in my abdomen. I looked deep into his already hardened eyes."It's you," he growled as I yelped as I pulled out the knife."Jason, please," I yelled as he charged at me. I spun around and kicked him. It didn't have the desired effect because I was slo
We arrived in San Diego early in the morning, hoping to outrun the rest of the pack and save my brother. We pulled over to a hotel just down the road so I could change out of my hospital scrubs. I entered the room while Ryan conjured jeans and a pink tank top. I slipped them on while throwing my scrubs to the ground. Before leaving the bathroom, I sprayed them with perfume. Ryan was waiting for me on the bed."Let's walk over to his house," I said, nodding."It'll be less obvious than driving," he said as we stepped into the elevator to the lobby. We stepped out into the cool morning air of San Diego, with traffic buzzing all around us. My gun rubbed against my back as we walked down the sidewalk towards his house."Do you think he'll pay attention to us?" As fear pricked my skin, I inquired. I tried everything I could to keep the fear at bay, but it persisted."If not, show him," Ryan reassured. As I noticed the house, I nodded. I stood on the sidewalk, looking up at the magnificent
The next day, we spent the entire day in the hotel room practicing the spell Ryan was going to perform."As a result, this spell will strengthen your bond with your twin. Once that happens, you'll be able to tell where he is in the world "Ryan said this while looking into my eyes."What are you going to do to me in exchange for the spell?" As he opened the spell book, I asked quietly."It says you'll need to be at the same location where we're casting the spell, a few drops of your blood, and a few hairs from your Lycan form," Ryan explained as I nodded my head."OK, it just appears to be really easy," I said as Ryan laughed."It won't be easy for me, and it could potentially kill you," he said, his expression grave."Is that all?" As he nodded, I laughed nervously. "I've got it.""No, Laura, I've got this," Ryan said as I sat down on the bed. I took out the photograph of my brother staring at it. I felt bad for dragging him into this mess because he seemed so happy. He'd be dragged t
As everyone looked at me and whispered around the courtyard, I stepped out of the car. I noticed Larry with his mouth agape. Gary led me inside the house. He turned to face him after closing the door."You are alive just because the leaders of the other pack forbade your death within their territory unless you did something that endangered us. They claim you are technically Royal because the first Gemini was created by two alphas "Gary said with Brenda watching me closely."I don't want her to stay!" Brenda yelled at Gary as tears welled up in my eyes."I don't want to be here; I want to be with Ryan, but you said you'd kill him, so here I am," I snapped back as a flash of pain flashed through my body. I missed Ryan so much, but it was the only way to save him."You lied to me about Gemini and expect me to believe you?" she demanded."Consider it this way. You were all talking about killing the Lycans, and if you were me, you would have said something!" I said this as she frowned in d
"Laura, come meet the leader of the Florida pack," Gary said, leaving Larry on the dance floor. "My name is Todd.""Hello," I said as his lips brushed against my hand."I was excited to meet you, Princess. A Gemini hasn't been born in centuries. I'd be honored if you danced with me "Todd described as his yellow eyes sparkled in the room. As I walked into the crowd, I took his hand in mine. He placed his right hand on my waist and the other on my hand. We danced our way around the room. Todd made up for my lack of dance ability."So you came all the way here just for me?" I inquired quietly as he laughed."Yes, Princess," he said, making me blush. "You have the power to determine who lives and who dies in the world. You may not be an Alpha, but you are far more powerful than you realize "Todd said something that piqued my interest."Thank you, but Gary is in charge," I politely replied."Ryan sent me to see you," Todd said, surprising me. "He found him, and he's coming for you, as he a
