The cracked, heavy wooden door does nothing to block the musky jungle of scent coming from within.

This isn't my first time entering a dive bar, but this one is the poster child for the wayward child dilemma.

The door creeks as I open it. Stale beer, cigarette smoke, sweat, and something greasy that's been sitting in a fryer far longer than it should assault my senses.

A few people stop and look over at me.

I ignore them, fully settled into my new identity as a grudge holding, grieving wom

Oliver“Do you want me to go through this stack of papers?” Didre asks. She is organize, efficient and takes direction well, but there is still a thing about her that makes my wolf uneasy.“No. That should be left there. Finish the boxes on the left,” I say.She smiles at me and my wolf lifts his lip. I ignore his odd reaction and give her a small smile back before turning back to the series of documents I’ve spent my nights translating.Liam steps inside. “I'll be going out to get my lunch. Sebastian is available if you guys need anything. I should only be gone for fifteen minutes though.”I hold in my sigh. You would think that a week of me doing nothing but what they brought me here to do would let them loosen the reins on the security. No luck.“Sure,” I say.He waits for Didre to say she is good before he leaves. We work quietly as the day moves along and once she's finished she steps up to me, invading my personal space.I turn to her curiously. “Is that old lycanic? She asks, h

Stale beer, cigarette smoke, sweat, and something greasy that's been sitting in a fryer far longer than it should assault my senses.A few people stop and look over at me.I ignore them, fully settled into my new identity as a grudge holding, grieving woman with very little left to live for.The closer I get to the bar, the quieter it becomes and the surer I am that I'm exactly where I need to be.Above the polished bar top is the emblem of a crow.I slip into a stool, giving my eyes a moment to adjust to the dim light.A burly old man with a thick wiry beard steps up to me.“What can I get you?”Somewhere toward the back, a pool ball cracks against another, followed by a chorus of laughter and a string of profanity.“What's the strongest thing

Aria“I hate to say it but she's right.”There is a groan from Elliot, a growl from and enforcer named IIya and varying degrees of grunting from my mates. Not that I expected any different.Honestly, I'm not sure the only real issue they are taking with the plan is that is a female and their dominant pride is probably shriveling at the thought of sending in someone weaker than them.Well they're going to have to get over it.My wolf huffs in agreement.“And you just decided that after thinking about it for a total of five seconds?” Liam counters baffled.“I'm pretty sure it was more than that, but, yeah. You see logic isn't that hard to get behind,” I mock.“Oh please. Do you even know what that word means?”I sniff at my brother. “Sure do. It's sending Sage in to give these creeps a taste of their own medicine.”“Thank you,” Sage says. “At least someone is seeing reason.”Elliot looks over at Sage. “Its not just about it being logical or not, it's about your after and the logistics o

Xochitl“Alright, Low,” I put my hands on the boy's shoulders. “Today these men and women are not your pack, they are not your friends, uncles, aunties or people you care about. They are your enemies.”Low’s little face scrunches up into a fierce expression as he looks out into the clearing and readies himself to face off with people bigger and stronger than him.Behind him is a handful of the pack pups, including the twins.“Are you ready?” I ask.“They won't get past me,” he yells.“Don't be so confident, pup,” Kade teases. “I won't go easy on you.”“I won't go easy on you old man,” he shouts back.Good. That's exactly the type of fire I want to see.“Alright,” I call out into the crowd. “You can try to take Low or any of the children behind him. You have three minutes. Don't be afraid to subdue him, he will use force.”I step off to the side. Stocking two fingers into my mouth I whistle, signalling them to start.Out of the corner of my eye, I watch as Thomas moves towards me.I do

SageI knock on Elliot's door, my mind made up. It's been a long time since I felt this moved by anything but the desire to eliminate the threat to my son, to the people that have embraced him so completely is a fire in my blood.IIya made sure he was okay. Pulled him out of that crumbling building and stood with him until I got back.He protected him and I felt the guard around my heart crack. He said he would be in my space but now I see that moment included Dante. It loosened part of my grip on my resistance.“Come in,” Elliot calls.“Hey,” I say as I enter.“How are you feeling?” He asks.“I'm great.” I close the door behind me. “I actually wanted to speak to you about something.”He sits back, a seriousness overcoming him. “Is there a problem?”“Not with me. But there is one with these radical frantics targeting the pack. What happened was unexceptable.” He growls. “I think it's time for more drastic action.”“Do you think I'm just sitting here on my hands? Right now we're doing

Aria“Are you nervous?” I ask Didre.“A little. But it always feels like this when. Assigned such an important task. I want to do my best.”I rub her arm. “You will.”We follow Ronan into the enforcer building, greeting those we pass by until we reach the back of the building.Liam stands there looking like he is hoping for some action to cure the current bored stagnation. I almost laugh at the subtle petulance on his face.“Exciting day?”He rolls his eyes. “Glad to see you got the whole waddling thing down.”“You're such an asshole,” I giggle. My wolf takes a playful swipe at him.He sighs. “It's the lack of stimulation.”“No it's just who you are,” I retort.Ronan shakes his head but doesn't say anything knowing how much we both get out of having a go at each other. What can I say, snarly remarks are my love language.“Hey Didre. Ready for work?” He says.“Sure am,” she chirps.“I'll be out here if you need me. Don't get discouraged if he doesn't speak much.”She glances at the doo
