Sabrina's POV
Days passed, and my condition still had not improved. I had just woken up from my sleep in a panic. I had fallen asleep for two hours after taking the medicine, until I forgot to pick up Charlie from school. "Oh my God, what time is it?!" I looked at the clock on the wall in my room. "Gosh! What have I done? Charlie must be crying, waiting for me!" I hurriedly got out of the room. Even though my body felt weak and powerless, I still forced myself to move. My heavy steps carried me down the stairs. However, when I had not yet stepped onto the first floor, the door to my house opened wide. I heard Charlie's cry, which made me panic instantly. "Sabrina!" a woman shouted loudly, calling for her. "Mom..." I looked at my mother-in-law, who had come with Hazel. The woman was now carrying Charlie, who was struggling in her arms. I was silent for a moment. Didn't Nicholas say yesterday that Hazel had an accident? But why didn't the woman look hurt at all?! Not yet aware of my shock, my mother-in-law approached me with a furious look and raging anger. "Oh, this is who you are, huh?! You're being lazy at home while my grandson is crying alone, waiting for you in front of the school!" "Mom, I can explain... I'm not being lazy at home; I'm sick." "Excuses!" Hazel replied with a sarcastic expression. "If you're not good at taking care of Charlie, you should just say so! Not like this to my son!" I shook my head, not having much energy to defend myself. "Hazel, it's not like that. I really wasn't lying. I fell asleep after taking the medicine and—" "You said you fell asleep?!" my mother-in-law shouted, pushing me by the shoulder to get me away from Charlie. "Could it be that all this time you've been treating my son badly because Charlie is just your stepson?!" Hazel accused angrily. I tried to continue to deny all the accusations from the two women in front of me, insisting that what they said was not true. But not with Charlie, who was still crying and reaching out his hand to ask me to carry him. However, my mother-in-law and Hazel continued to hold the little boy back. "Mommy... Huwaa, Charlie wants to come with Mommy!" Charlie shouted, looking at me as if asking for help. "Don't give in, Hazel! Charlie is your son! She's just an ungrateful stepmother!" my mother-in-law accused me. My tears could not be held back. I really felt cornered. Then I heard the sound of a car horn in front of the house. From outside, Nicholas appeared, walking into the house. His sharp black irises stared at them one by one. "What's going on here?" Nicholas asked. His voice sounded cold and intimidating, making me immediately wipe the tears from my cheeks. Hazel approached Nicholas with Charlie crying in her arms. Her angry face had now changed to a sad and disappointed expression. "Nicholas, I never thought your wife would treat my son like this! Is it because Charlie is her stepson that she acts as she pleases?!" the woman screamed, suddenly sobbing as if her heart had just been broken. Nicholas looked at me, who was looking down with a trembling body. Nicholas still didn't know what had really happened between them. "Sabrina," Nicholas called, as if asking for an explanation. "Your wife neglected Charlie at school! She was busy sleeping at home! Imagine if Charlie had been kidnapped by bad people! Who would be responsible?!" my mother-in-law snapped, venting her anger. "If it weren't for me and your mother, how many more hours would Charlie have waited for him, Nicholas? Our son waited for that woman in front of the school gate alone for three hours. Can you imagine how scared our son was?" Hazel snapped sadly. Hearing their complaints, Nicholas's expression hardened. His eyes were wide open at me, who didn't say anything except for my faint sobs. "Is that true, Sabrina?" Nicholas asked with a clearly tightened jawline. I stared at Nicholas with a pair of watery eyes. I approached and grabbed my husband's hand. "It's not like what they said, Nicholas. I-I'm not feeling well... I fell asleep after I took the medicine. For God's sake, I'm not lying—" "Not lying how?! When we arrived here, you looked fine!" my mother-in-law interrupted angrily. "Yes, I saw it with my own eyes too! If you really don't like Charlie, don't treat my son like this, Sabrina!" Hazel said, tears streaming down her face. Nicholas pushed my hand away until my thin body staggered back. His face looked scary, his jawline tensed with clenched fists. "Is everything they said true? You neglected my son?!" My body jerked; I lowered my head, covering my mouth and holding back sobs. "I'm really sick, Nicholas... I never lied to you. What they said is not true! I can't be that cruel to our child," I explained, trying to defend myself. "Our child, our child! Charlie is Hazel and Nicholas's child, not yours!" my mother-in-law shouted in response. "Let me take care of Charlie if you can't, Sabrina. Don't treat a child like this; my child doesn't know anything!" Hazel sobbed, still making up stories and acting. Nicholas grabbed my shoulders tightly and stared at me with deep annoyance. "I didn't expect what you did, Sabrina!" Nicholas hissed. My voice choked. "Nicholas..." Nicholas immediately pulled away. He then looked at Hazel and her mother. "Take Charlie with you," he said coldly. The two women seemed satisfied with Nicholas's decision and then walked out after giving me a cynical smile. I noticed Charlie screaming at me as if asking for my help. There were only Nicholas and me left. My cries slowly subsided. The fact that this man didn't believe me at all, even though I had told the truth, made me feel sad. "I'm sorry," I said softly and sadly. "I just hope you believe that I love Charlie very much, like my own child." Nicholas, who was standing with his back to me, glanced at me sharply with thin lips. The anger that was so obvious from Nicholas made me afraid. I knew Nicholas loved Charlie more than anything, and the statement that cornered me certainly made Nicholas very angry with me. "After you neglected Charlie today?!" Nicholas snapped. "You've crossed the line, Sabrina Nathalia!" After saying that with full force, Nicholas walked away without wanting to listen to all the honest reasons from his wife. I felt unable to support my body. I sat on the floor with my breath rising and falling. My chest was tight. My tears felt dry, so I continued crying. I covered my face and suppressed the sadness within me. "I can't take it anymore, oh God..." I squeezed my dress while kneeling on the floor. "I can't maintain this marriage anymore!”Sienna’s POV I instinctively turned to Hazel, who was serving another customer. Her face changed slightly when she saw Nicholas and me enter, then she quickly completed the transaction with a smile. A moment later, she approached me.“Sabrina!” she called softly, as if worried her voice might disturb me. “You here?”I held up the cake box in my hand. “I brought some cake. I was passing by earlier and stopped by. You probably haven’t had a chance to eat anything sweet, right?”Hazel’s face immediately lit up. “Oh my gosh, thank you. You know I haven’t had a chance to buy anything.”I smiled, but my gaze drifted back to the handsome man still busy with his choices. Curiously, I asked, “Hey, Hazel, why is there a man in your boutique? Aren’t most of your customers women?”Hazel glanced briefly at the man, then leaned closer to me, lowering her voice to a whisper. “He’s been coming in often for a month. He said he’s always buying
Sienna’s POV As soon as I arrived at the health center, I could see several other couples had arrived, some already sitting in the waiting room with their large bellies. Some looked nervous, some smiled, and others were busy chatting with their husbands. It was heartwarming to see so many couples eagerly awaiting the arrival of their baby.We entered a spacious hall. The floor was covered with colorful mats, and at the front stood an instructor with a friendly smile. Nicholas and I chose a spot in the middle. Nicholas carefully helped me sit down, even setting up a small pillow behind me.The instructor began by greeting me, introducing herself, and then briefly explaining the benefits of prenatal exercises. She said these exercises would help the body relax, improve breathing, and prepare the muscles for labor. I listened intently, though secretly I felt nervous; my body was already quite stiff, and I worried I wouldn't be able to follow the movements p
Sabrina's POV I woke up with a sore body. It felt like every inch of my back was screaming to be stretched, and my growing belly made it difficult to roll over, let alone get out of bed. I took a deep breath, trying to gather my strength. I held onto the edge of the bed several times and slowly lifted myself up. I barely managed to sit up, but I already felt a little out of breath.I glanced at the clock on the bedside table. It was still early in the morning, but a commotion could be heard coming from the kitchen: the sound of pans clanking, plates being set, and Charlie's loud, low laughter mixed with Nicholas's voice. I smiled weakly.Since I became pregnant, Nicholas had forbidden me from going into the kitchen, even to get a glass of water. He said my job was to rest and take care of the pregnancy. He and Charlie would handle all household chores, even the simplest ones.I slowly got out of bed. My walking was slow, each step heavy. As soon as I
Sienna’s POV That day, the house looked completely different. Full of color, full of laughter, full of life. I was now seven months pregnant, and somehow time had flown by so quickly. It seemed like just yesterday I was experiencing those first bouts of morning sickness that had everyone worried. Now, I was standing in a living room filled with blue and pink balloons, streamers hanging from the ceiling, and a large table decorated with fresh flowers.Nicholas was busy pacing back and forth, making sure everyone was seated comfortably. Charlie had been running around, his bright blue shirt making his little face even more radiant. Hazel looked beautiful in a simple pink dress, her hair down, and a constant smile on her face.Nicholas and I chose white. He said it would be neutral and a sign that we would accept the gender of our baby. I agreed. White was peaceful, pure, and full of hope, just like I felt every time my baby kicked gently from my belly.
Sabrina's POV I stood in front of Hazel's boutique, carrying a paper bag containing two lunch boxes. The midday sun was quite hot, but a strange sense of excitement made my steps feel light. Since this morning, after Nicholas and Charlie left, the house had been eerily quiet. Usually, the sound of Hazel pacing in the kitchen or Charlie's laughter filled the room. Now, it was just me, an empty chair, and the slow ticking of the clock.I took a deep breath, tried reading a book, turning on the television, even lying down for a while. But everything felt empty. Finally, I decided I had to go out, I had to see Hazel. Not only because I missed her, but because staying home was making me even more anxious. As I pushed open the boutique door, the small bell above it rang loudly. Hazel, who had been talking to a customer, turned around, and her eyes widened.“Sabrina?” she called out, surprised and relieved.I smiled, holding up the paper bag I was c
Sienna’s POV I shook my head firmly. “Don’t ever think that. You’re a wonderful mother to Charlie. Even though you didn’t experience nausea, fatigue, or cravings like other pregnant women, you still gave birth to a healthy and perfect Charlie. That was an incredible sacrifice.”Tears welled up in Hazel’s eyes. She tried to smile, but it faltered. “But I was gone.”I looked at her more deeply, tightening my grip. “Yes, you were gone. But look at him now. Charlie has you, Nicholas, and me. He has more love than any other child out there. He knows his mother is there for him. You’re back, Hazel. And that’s all that matters.”Hazel covered her mouth with her hand, holding back the tears that threatened to break out. I knew those words had been lingering in her heart for a long time, waiting to be said, but always held back by guilt.I stroked the back of her hand. “Don’t beat yourself up, Hazel. Charlie doesn’t see you as the one who left him. H
