Denise stared at him.

“From you,” she repeated slowly. “What does that even mean?”

Liam didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, he turned away and walked toward the window, as if the act of looking outside gave him something to control.

When he spoke again, his voice was quieter.

“Among my kind,” he said, “territory is not land.”

Denise frowned. “Then what is it?”

A pause.

“Attention,” Liam replied.

That didn’t make it clearer.

It made it worse.

Denise stepped forward slightly. “So you’re saying… they’re targeting me because you’re paying attention to me?”

Liam’s jaw tightened.

“Yes.”

Silence.

Denise exhaled sharply, running a hand through her hair. “That’s insane.”

“It’s real,” he corrected.

She looked at him sharply. “So what now? I just live locked in your house forever because you decided to—what—look at me too long?”

Liam turned back to her.

And this time, there was something different in his expression.

Less control.

More honesty.

“You think this is about looking,” he said quietly.

Denise frowned. “Then what is it about?”

A pause.

Then Liam stepped closer again.

Not stopping this time.

Not hesitating.

He stopped only when there was barely any space left between them.

Denise’s breath caught slightly.

Liam’s voice lowered.

“It started that way,” he admitted.

Denise swallowed. “Started?”

His eyes held hers.

“And now it’s not something I can turn off.”

Silence stretched between them.

Denise tried to steady her voice. “That doesn’t explain why I’m still here.”

Liam’s gaze flickered briefly to her lips again—quick, controlled, almost involuntary.

Then back to her eyes.

“It does,” he said quietly.

A pause.

Then:

“Because if I send you away… I lose track of you.”

Denise frowned. “Lose track? I’m not an object.”

“I didn’t say you were.”

“But you’re talking like—”

“Like I need to know where you are,” he finished.

The room felt smaller again.

Denise stepped back slightly this time.

Liam noticed immediately.

His expression tightened.

“Don’t do that,” he said softly.

“Do what?”

“Pull away when I’m telling you the truth.”

Denise shook her head. “It’s not about that. It’s just… too much.”

Liam nodded once.

For once, he didn’t argue.

Then he said something quieter.

“I know.”

That response threw her off.

Denise studied him carefully. “Then why keep doing this to me?”

A pause.

Longer this time.

Liam looked away briefly.

Just a fraction.

Then back.

“I’m not doing it to you,” he said.

Denise frowned. “It doesn’t feel like that.”

Silence.

Then Liam exhaled slowly.

And when he spoke again, the edge in his voice was gone.

Not gone completely.

But restrained differently.

“I brought you here because I thought distance would protect you,” he said.

Denise didn’t interrupt.

“But it didn’t,” he continued. “It made things worse.”

A pause.

Then quieter:

“For both of us.”

Denise stared at him.

Something in his tone felt different now.

Less like command.

More like admission.

She didn’t know what to do with that.

“So what do you want from me?” she asked finally.

Liam looked at her for a long moment.

Then, very softly:

“I want you alive.”

Denise blinked. “That’s not an answer.”

“It is the only one that matters.”

Silence.

Then a distant sound echoed through the mansion again.

Not inside the walls this time.

Outside.

A howl.

Low.

Far away.

But unmistakably real.

Denise froze instantly.

“What was that?” she whispered.

Liam didn’t look surprised.

That was the worst part.

He was already expecting it.

“Another pack,” he said quietly.

Denise’s throat tightened. “Pack?”

Liam nodded once.

Then turned slightly toward the window.

“And they’ve found the edge of my territory.”

Denise felt her stomach drop. “Territory again…”

Liam’s voice lowered.

“This time,” he said, “they won’t test the house.”

A pause.

Denise’s voice came out carefully. “Then what are they testing?”

Liam looked back at her.

And this time, there was no ambiguity left in his expression.

“You.”

Silence.

Denise shook her head slightly. “That doesn’t make sense. I’m not part of any of this.”

Liam stepped closer again.

But now there was urgency behind it.

Not control.

Not obsession.

Something closer to concern.

“You are now,” he said.

Denise frowned. “Because I met you?”

Liam hesitated.

Then:

“Because you reacted to me.”

That sentence made something cold settle in her chest.

“I didn’t choose that,” she said quietly.

“I know.”

Another pause.

Then Liam’s voice dropped even further.

“That’s why it’s dangerous.”

Denise stared at him.

For the first time, she saw it clearly.

Not just dominance.

Not just possession.

Something underneath all of it.

Responsibility.

And fear.

Not for himself.

For her.

Liam stepped back slightly again, breaking the closeness like it cost him something.

Then he said:

“You need to understand something.”

Denise didn’t speak.

“I don’t bring people into my life,” he said.

A pause.

“You were not supposed to stay.”

Denise frowned slightly. “But I am staying.”

Silence.

Liam looked at her for a long moment.

Then, quietly:

“Yes.”

That single word changed the atmosphere again.

Denise’s voice softened slightly. “Why?”

Liam didn’t answer immediately.

Then—

very carefully—

he said:

“Because I can’t stop it.”

The room went still.

Even the distant sounds outside seemed quieter.

Denise searched his face.

Trying to find manipulation.

Trying to find control.

But what she saw instead…

was restraint.

Barely holding.

Then Liam turned slightly toward the door again.

“Stay inside,” he said.

Denise frowned. “You already said that.”

He paused at the door.

Without looking back, he added:

“This time, I’m not asking.”

And then he was gone.

Leaving Denise alone in a house that suddenly felt less like protection…

and more like a boundary being tested from both sides.

  • Liam’s Obsession    The cage that learns her name

The mansion’s barrier didn’t look like anything. That was the terrifying part. Denise pressed her hand to the glass again, watching the attacker outside strike at the invisible wall like it might eventually give in. It didn’t. It only reacted. Subtle ripples spread through the air each time it hit—like reality was acknowledging pressure, then refusing to break. Denise stepped back slowly. “This is impossible,” she whispered again, but now it sounded like habit more than disbelief. Below, the courtyard was chaos. Not messy chaos. Controlled chaos. Liam moved through it like he already knew every outcome before it happened. Another body hit the ground. Then another. The attackers weren’t weak. She could see that much. But they weren’t… matching him. They were reacting to him. And that was the difference. Denise’s eyes tracked Liam as he stopped briefly in the center of the courtyard. One of the attackers circled him cautiously. “Even your own

  • Liam’s Obsession    The first kill rule

Denise didn’t move. Not when Liam’s voice reached her. Not when the forest line shifted again. Not even when the air itself seemed to tighten, like the mansion was holding its breath. “Stay inside,” he had said. But the way he said it didn’t feel like protection anymore. It felt like containment. Denise’s fingers tightened around the balcony frame. Down below, the courtyard lights flickered once more—and then stabilized into a dim, uneasy glow. The shapes at the forest edge didn’t rush in. They waited. That was worse. Because waiting meant intelligence. Intent. Denise swallowed. “This is not happening,” she whispered. Then the first one stepped out. Not running. Not hiding. Just walking into the light like it had every right to be there. Denise’s chest tightened. It looked human at first. But only until it tilted its head. Too slowly. Too deliberately. Then another stepped beside it. And another. Liam didn’t move. He just watched

  • Liam’s Obsession    When the walls start moving

Denise stood still after Liam left. Not because she wanted to obey him. But because the mansion had gone quiet in a way that felt wrong again. Not peaceful. Not empty. Alert. She exhaled slowly and walked toward the window. Outside, the forest line looked unchanged. Still. Dark. But after everything she had seen, “still” no longer meant safe. Denise pressed her fingers against the glass. “What am I supposed to do with this?” she whispered. A faint vibration ran through the floor. She froze. Then another. Like something heavy had moved somewhere deep below the mansion. Denise stepped back immediately. “No,” she muttered. “No, I’m not doing this again.” She turned toward the door. Locked. Of course it was. She tried the handle anyway. Nothing. Then— a soft sound behind her. Denise spun instantly. The room was empty. But the air felt… different again. • Liam’s Obsession    The line he can’t cross

Denise didn’t respond immediately. Liam’s words hung in the room like something unfinished. You make it hard for me to stay what I am. She should have focused on the “werewolf” part. She should have panicked more. But instead— her mind kept circling that sentence. Because it sounded less like danger… and more like struggle. Denise finally spoke, voice quieter than before. “So what you’re saying is… I’m the problem?” Liam’s gaze flickered. “No.” A pause. Then, more carefully: “You’re the trigger.” Denise frowned. “That sounds worse.” “It is,” he admitted. Silence settled again. The mansion outside remained quiet now, but it wasn’t the same kind of quiet as before. This one felt controlled. Managed. Like something had been locked back into place. Denise crossed her arms tightly. “If you’re telling the truth… which I’m still not fully accepting…” Liam didn’t interrupt. “…then what was outside earlier?” she asked. “The thing in my room.
