Light & Darkness: Book 4
Light & Darkness: Book 4
Author: Katherine Monroe

~Prologue~

"You are my Light that illuminates the Darkness within me..."

Never before could I have thought that these words would evoke such great emotions in me and would be associated with a person who completely turned my world upside down. There were actually two people who did this, but one in particular shook my heart especially hard.

For most people, I am an ordinary girl whose life has nothing special going on, just another student who makes some extra money after classes in a bar. When someone got to know me a little closer, found out that I was an orphan who lost my parents very early and was looked after by my grandmother from mother's side, who, however, died just before I went to college. From that moment on, I was left all alone and had to cope somehow, working hard to pay for my studies, living and a tiny, cramped apartment, which was quite far from the center of Tokyo, where the bar where I worked and my university were, but it was quite walkable, besides any bus would take me too far to the apartment building, so it was more profitable to walk those 20 minutes. During the day, when it was completely bright, it was not a problem for me, because I loved walking. It was worse in the evening or at night... And to make matters worse, it got dark much faster in winter. At this time of the year, I wanted to hibernate and wake up only in the spring.

Yes, for most of people around it was me - a hardworking student who is afraid of the dark like a small child. Already in elementary school, they laughed at me if this secret was revealed, let alone in college. No wonder I didn't have too many friends. The fact that I was a bit of a nerd didn't make me more popular either. Of course, it never bothered me because I always preferred to study rather than party anyway.

But there are many things that no one knows about me... No one but two of them. Namely, I am a sorceress. And not some ordinary, but from a powerful lineage, one that has tremendous power. However, and it may seem strange to some, until now I have not felt at all this enormous power that, as my grandmother always used to say, was within me. Yes, I was a sorceress, but so what, if the darkness terrified me? What use has this power of mine, if I could not walk alone in the dark street at night, or I was afraid to fall asleep without the bedside lamp at least on? I thought so once, but as it turns out, there will be time for everything.

Since I met these two, my life has changed drastically, but overall for the better. First of all, the darkness stopped frightening me and I finally started to see and use the huge light within me. I finally started to feel the power my grandmother had always talked about. Of course, their appearance has brought quite a chaos to my life, but I guess no changes could go without some complications. Apparently it had to be that way - the storm passed, leaving behind some damage but also a lot of fresher air. I overcame a lot of adversities, but now I feel much happier, so to sum up, I'm glad that everything turned out this way.
