That afternoon Clarissa deliberately wanted to meet Diaz after the lecture was over. Clarissa walked towards the lecturer's office hoping Diaz was there. The approach must be intensified.
A few meters before reaching the office door, Diaz was seen walking out of it. Clarissa's smile widened instantly. Again, luck was on her side. And Diaz looked at Clarissa. Diaz was sure this quirky student was looking for him. He understood the gesture of the girl who wanted to approach him.
"Good afternoon, Sir." Clarissa greeted warmly. She put on a sweet smile for the teacher to pay attention.
"Good afternoon, Clarissa. Not going home yet?" Diaz asked.
"I want to meet you first. Can I talk with you?" Clarissa asked back.
"About what? I'm in a bit of a rush." Diaz answered while looking at his watch.
"Oh, no. Are you?" Clarissa was disappointed.
"I wait for my taxi. If you can be patient, tomorrow you can meet me at over two in the afternoon." Diaz made a suggestion.
"Where is your vehicle?" Clarissa was a little surprised. Did the teacher need a taxi?
"My motorbike is being serviced. Taxi is the best choice." Diaz explained.
"I'll pick you, sir. Come on!" Clarissa volunteered.
"What?" Diaz was shocked.
"I'm serious. Instead of a taxi, here is someone who wants to be kind, don't refuse, Sir." Clarissa persuaded.
"I won't go straight home. I am going to the tutoring place. I'm teaching in half an hour." Diaz explained his business.
"I'm ready to take you anywhere." Clarissa was excited. It was a good opportunity to be close to Diaz.
"Yeah, okay. Can we talk on the way, what do you want to ask?" Finally, the handsome young lecturer relented.
Clarissa felt like jumping up high. She and Diaz got in the car together! They immediately headed for the parking lot. Clarissa started the car. Diaz told her the address where he would teach.
"I think you just teaching students. Do you still want to mess with the tutoring high students? Surprise me, really." Clarissa started a conversation while she drove.
"Being a tutoring teacher since I was in college. Not easy to leave it. It's also fun teaching junior and senior high school students. As long as the schedule doesn't collide, I'll do it." Outside of this class, Diaz was friendly, but in class, he tended to be fierce. Maybe really firm.
"Out of class, when you are not teaching is a very kind one. Why do you make me upset in class?" Frankly speaking, Clarissa asked what popped into her head.
Diaz smiled faintly. It wasn't strange what Clarissa asked. Several other students also asked this question.
"Discipline, rule, responsibility. That's what I hold on to. And I apply it in class. Class and outside of class are different, Clarissa. I'm more relaxed when I'm not teaching. When I'm in front of the class I easily lose focus if something distracts me."
"And I'm one of the bullies." Clarissa interrupted Diaz's sentence before the lecturer continued.
"Yup! Don't do it again. Got it?" Diaz confirmed.
“Hee … hee …” Clarissa chuckled.
The conversation continued from just talking to seriously discussing lectures. Clarissa was really satisfied today to be with Diaz. Even Clarissa didn't want to go home when Diaz started teaching. Arguing that she had nothing urgent to do, Clarissa waited for Diaz along he was teaching.
Diaz didn't force Clarissa to come home. It doesn’t make sense if he was angry with her after all. But Diaz felt it was a bad sign if Clarissa was after him. But on the other hand, it was a good sign, because Diaz wanted to change this unique student to have a little classier ethics.
For two hours, Clarissa waited. During that time Clarissa just sat playing with her cell phone. Occasionally post something or create a status. When she entered the virtual world, it felt like she didn't want to go out into real life.
"Clarissa, do you still like to stay here?" Diaz rebuked Clarissa who was seriously staring at the phone screen.
Clarissa raised her head. Diaz stood in front of him. Handsome. Ah, why was he even more charming?
"Get back?" Clarissa stood up.
"Yes. It's done." Diaz nodded.
"Bye, Brother. Thank you. See you tomorrow!" Diaz's students said goodbye, waved and one by one left the tutoring place.
"Brother Diaz?" Clarissa looked at Diaz. Sweet call from the students. In the tutoring, the students called him brother, not sir.
"Yes, here I am a brother. Not a teacher." Diaz smiled widely.
He stepped outside, Clarissa following.
"Brother, I'll take you back home!" said Clarissa.
Diaz turned around. Clarissa mentioned brother to him. He didn't hear wrong, did he?
"Is it okay I call you brother?" Clarissa raised two fingers in approval.
Diaz smiled. "But at class ..."
"Mr. Diaz. Okay. I won't forget." Clarissa smiled.
Get back in the car. This time the destination was where Diaz lived. Not so far from the tutoring place. The house was very big and beautiful. But this was actually a boarding house. Diaz's room was on the left side of the house. It looked like a small house, not a bedroom.
"Thank you for being a driver for me today." Diaz smiled.
"Is that so?" Clarissa asked.
"I'll just transfer the monthly money later, okay?" joked Diaz. Clarissa laughed.
"You're going home. You have been out of the house too long. Go home, work your assignments." Diaz ordered.
"Brother, let me come in for a moment, please." Clarissa persuaded.
"You can't. This is not my house. There are rules. If you have guests of the opposite sex, you can only sit on the terrace like this," Diaz explained.
"Okay, okay. I'm going back. I am waiting to be your driver again next time. Bye, Brother!" Clarissa also left Diaz.
Diaz watched until Clarissa's car drove by. The girl was smart and has a lot of potentials. That was what came to Diaz's mind. Unfortunately, her attitude would make it difficult for her to enter the world of work in the future. And that was what Diaz would scrape from Clarissa.
Arriving at the boarding house, Clarissa immediately looked for Yenny in her room. Her friend was very diligent. As usual, when Clarissa went to her room, she was dealing with her laptop and books.
"Yenny! I'm happy!!" Clarissa hugged Yenny with joy. Yenny was suddenly attacked like that. Yenny tried to release Clarissa's embrace.
"What? It's not going to take a quick shower, it's actually disturbing people studying," Yenny sprayed.
"I was going with brother Diaz." Clarissa smiled widely.
"What? Brother Diaz? Walk both of you?" Yenny's eyes bulged. What did Clarissa say? She was not making this up, was she? Even though she was acting casually, Clarissa wasn't a liar.
Clarissa quickly spoke. All from A to Z. She had an exciting trip with Diaz that day. The way was wide open she could approach the lecturer who made her fall in love. During she was telling her day, Clarissa was so happy, as if tomorrow she could be the lecturer’s girl.
Yenny just gaped at hearing Clarissa spill all her joy. Yenny couldn't tell whether their new lecturer had a crush on Clarissa that was why he was so kind to the naughty and nosy girl in the class.
"It's not in vain that I rejected many guys over the years. What I imagine is coming and now I can freely approach him. Yenny, my life is beautiful!" Clarissa concluded her long story with a seemingly appropriate conclusion.
"Are you sure Mr. Diaz likes you too?" Yenny didn't smile, didn't congratulate her, instead wanted to open Clarissa's inner eyes.
Clarissa looked at Yenny to hear the question.
Clarissa could understand if Yenny disagreed with her. Of course, just like any other friend, if they found out that Clarissa pursued their new teacher’s love, there would be sneers and sarcasm. But Clarissa was better to change her name if she would give up just because people saying. "Yenny, the first step I got my point, so I will just keep going. Hm? I'm sure I can melt the hearts of our lecturer." Clarissa patted Yenny's cheek. "Clay, it's better to focus on studying, you know. Don't think others. A lecturer, like Mr. Diaz, definitely wishes an elegant woman, not being silly, it's a little unclear like you, sometimes." Yenny's open mouth started to get out of control. "Whatever you wanna say. Today is the first step. Everything leads to a noble goal, side by side with the ideal man, that I hope. Why should I think differently? Challenges are natural, make the struggle more meaningful." Clarissa moved to pinch Yenny's nose. "Hey, keep your hand. Y
"Clay ..." That voice made Clarissa even more nervous. Calm, soft, and soothing. She used to hear a voice like this from her father. "Everything you've been through has taught you to be a strong girl. Rest assured of that." Clarissa was silent. So far no one had spoken to her like this. That the bad things that disappointed her, would make her be a strong person? "Without a father, you are now a grown woman. That's great. And ahead there is a future waiting. Be proud of yourself." Diaz continued. Clarissa wanted to cry loudly hearing those words. If Diaz was in front of her, she would probably hug him tightly. Clarissa felt her heart painful, but there was also a sense of calm creeping in there. She wanted Diaz by her side to calm her down. "I don't think so. I am just passing through my days. After high school, I am in college. I don't know how it will be, I don't know." Clarissa answered as if resigned to life. Diaz could feel Claris
Clarissa had just finished showering and changing. She wanted to charge her cell phone. When she took it out of the bag, there were several incoming calls from Adimasta. What was up with that guy calling? Was there anything important? Clarissa sent a chat because she had to fill in her cell phone energy. She asked why Adimasta was busy looking for her. Adimasta's reply came quickly. He asked if his workbook had been taken by Clarissa. Clarissa didn't feel it, but she'd check first. The phone was put back down and Clarissa opened her bag. The book was in the bag. It was tucked into the book Clarissa had borrowed. Clarissa was curious, what were the contents of Adimasta's book. She sat down at her table and began to flip through the pages of the book. Clarissa smiled. Neat, organized, systematic. Yes, it was Adimasta. A good boy, friendly, and intelligent. Unfortunately, in Clarissa's eyes, Adimasta looked like an indecisive and weak guy. It was the reason why
Annoyed, Clarissa got into her car. Why had to be Adimasta?! She wasn't really interested in him. But so far, Adimasta was one of the most pleasant friends for Clarissa. After Clarissa found out Adimasta's heart for her, she just wanted to stay away from the boy. Yenny who was sitting next to Clarissa knew her friend was really upset. Yenny was the same, didn't expect Adimasta to have feelings for a girl like Clarissa. In Yenny's eyes, Adimasta needed a calm, polite, and gentle girl. But the fact, was it real he loved Clarissa? It didn’t make sense in Yenny’s mind. "What are you angry about? It's Adi's business whether you like it or not. If it's not bothering your life, just let it be." Yenny calmed Clarissa down. "I want to be with Diaz, you know. I don’t care the others." Clarissa drove the car. When she was near the gate, she saw Adimasta on his motorbike. The boy stopped at the side of the road, making a call to someone. Yenny patted Clarissa on
"Honey, I'm really sorry. I've made you angry many times. But, I miss you, so much." Rosita spoke hoarsely. "Mam, I'll get you some warm water, okay?" Mrs. Tirah interrupted Rosita's words. "Yes, sure. Thank you," said Rosita. Mrs. Tirah left the room. She told Yenny to come in and sit in a chair not far from the door. Clarissa turned to Yenny. She waved to her friend. Yenny came over, stood by the bed, next to Clarissa. "This is Yenny, Mom. My best friend." Clarissa introduced Yenny. "Yenny, you must be a good girl. You can stand with my daughter’s behavior." Rosita looked at Yenny. "Mom, ugh," Clarissa snarled. "Clarissa, I know you're the most annoyed when I want to talk to you. Especially when it was about dating." Rosita turned her gaze to Clarissa again. What could Clarissa say? Even she was sick, Rosita still talked about arranged marriage. "I just want you to get a good man, your life will be okay then.
For three days Clarissa stayed with Rosita. After her mother's condition improved, Clarissa returned to her boarding house. But her communication with Rosita was more intense. Clarissa wanted to make sure her mother would be alright. Yenny was also relieved, Clarissa was cheerful again. Back unfriendly and arbitrarily. It annoyed her friend. But that was what Clarissa was. "How is your mother? Still trying to find a husband for you?" Yenny asked. They were waiting for the next class. Diaz’s class. "Yes, but I'm not insistent. I told my mom, I can definitely find a husband myself. I'll get to know Mama right away when I'm with her." Clarissa answered while opening her water bottle. "Ooh? Does she deal with you?" Yenny asked again.
The tall and stout body moved away. Diaz didn't look back at Clarissa. With a sad look and a disappointed heart, Clarissa still stood where she was. Diaz rejected her love. Their close relationship so far, Diaz's concern for him is only as brother and sister. No more. Yenny was right. Diaz wasn't in love with her. Clarissa was too confident. When she had planned everything well, it was to no avail. Clarissa was left behind. "Brother, you are so mean. I really love you. You also show that you love me all this time. In fact?" Clarissa clenched her fists in anger. Clarissa's heart was furious. She was not considered. Again, she accepted the refusal. Her father left her. Her mother didn't care. Last, the man which was Clarissa had hoped to cover up all the pain she had been feeling, had failed her too. Why was life not on her side at all? "But not Clarissa at this rate. I'll get you, Brother. You'll be mine. I'm sure of that." There was sadness mixed with
Yenny looked at Adimasta. The slanted young man with glasses turned back to face her. Adimasta did not mishear what Yenny asked. Yes, Yenny might know about his love for Clarissa. Adimasta was sure Clarissa couldn't help but tell her what happened in the park behind campus, forced to confess her heart to the eccentric girl. "Yes. I love her, Yenny." Finally, Yenny heard it from Adimasta's thin lips. Yenny exhaled, still unable to believe it. Actually, Yenny felt strange that Adimasta could fall in love with Clarissa. Because in Yenny's view, these her two friend’s characters woukd not be possible to connect. "I don't even know how could it be like this." Adimasta raised his glasses to their original position. "You know she loves Mr. Diaz." Yenny still looked at Adimasta. "I know. And Mr. Diaz can't possibly love Clarissa. I just want her to be okay." Adimasta smiled faintly. "Are you sure you can still love Clarissa? You know this girl
